  1. Mhmm, that's interesting, I'll have to check on that for the visa exempt. I'm in Phuket and thinking from further back I may have ask them that before and they said no. Mind you, all these offices seem to operate on their own interpretations. It's not really about buying time, I've already submitted my application for 1yr extension and got a due date to appear, however, I might have to go to work on a vessel and might not make it back in time. I can't use the 60day extension avenue, as technically I don't have the stamp in place for the 1yr permit. So, it might mean I have to get stamped in as a tourist or whatever on my return, so looking at options in case I have to face that reality. Cambodia does look easier than most right now
  2. Thanks for the queries, however, it's not really what I was asking. I'd be applying for a non-o spouse. I don't think it's possible to convert a visa exempt into a non-o, I believe you can only do that for a proper tourist visa. I'm thinking Vietnam or Malaysia, but seeing if anyone had other experiences. Philippines is too far away. What's the score with quarantine in Cambodia? I'll look it up anyway. Thanks
  3. I may be in the position of having to obtain a new single non-o visa from a thai embassy somewhere in Asia. With the current entry requirements for various countries, does anyone have any information as to the easiest country to obtain one? I'm double jabbed, so believe that is considered fully vaxxed, so looking for countries where I can do a quick turn around and do the TP for my return, preferably with as little time spent holed up in a dark cell for a few days
  4. Here's some info that will make it clearer https://www.thaicitizenship.com/thai-military-service/. I believe if you register his birth with the Thai authorities, then he will be on a house book (Tabien Baan) somewhere (I think, but not 100%), therefore eligible to be drafted. So, it mainly depends on your future intentions, whether you plan to move to live in Thailand or not. If you never have plans to move there, then perhaps it's a choice your son can make when he gets older as it is he who has to do the time. As others have said, there might not be a draft at that time, so you could register if there's news at that time. However, if you plan on relocating to Thailand, then it's better to register him, as the easiest solution to avoid the draft is the Territorial army induction completed in his school years (note, you need to enroll him in a school that offers this option). My son is doing his now and it's only a short time each year. If on the other hand, you only plan to visit on occasion, then he would only have the citizenship he entered Thailand on and the visa implications along with it. There could be a scenerio that if the draft was still ongoing, but your son was in university elsewhere, he would have to run the hoops to defer military, and if he doesn't want to do it, then would have to remain outside Thailand until 30yrs old. It's a tough choice, so I would choose wisely depending on your future plans for you and your family. Bearing in mind, his connection to Thailand is an important one, so as others have said, for the hassle of doing it later may be more of an issue than not doing it now.
  5. I had TB years back, involved a lot of pills over a 6month treatment plan if I can recall. You should have been given the all clear after a few weeks (all clear as not infectious anymore). If you're still taking them after 12months, then there's something wrong. Has your doctor been giving you x-rays etc? I would be getting a 2nd opinion if you're not recovering after this length of time. The medication you get in Thailand will be just as good as you get in the UK, you just need to see another doctor. For flying, you will have to get a cert from your doctor to say that you're not infectious anymore. It would be very irresponsible to travel if you're still infectious. I wouldn't waste time in trying to get into the UK, you won't be covered anyway as others have said, and if they found out you had just traveled and still infectious, then expect some issues. TB can be very bad if you leave it, I would be going to see a different doctor right away and not messing about on this forum. You might have the resistant strain of TB which is hard to treat and pretty dangerous. Hope you get better...
  6. I'm not sure why others are being given further appointments? I had been trying to get it renewed since March, 1st time got an appointment to come back in May, then told again that they were closed for foreigners and try again in 6wks. I went to work and didn't come back until late October. I did have the appointment slips from previous times, maybe that was the reason??
  7. Just did it last Friday at Phuket, register / watch the online video https://www.dlt-elearning.com/People/RegisterForeigner. Go in, do your brake test (no eye test apart from recognizing the traffic light colours. No queue's (last time was a bullring circus). In at 9:30, out by 10:30. Take a copy of passport with visa, entry stamps, medical cert from a doctor, foreigner immigration address registration cert or yellow book.
  8. Ok, that's good enough for me, thanks for the info.
  9. Are they now accepting Yellow Books? What confirmation have you got? Because, if that's the case, then good for me.
  10. Since the cameras / data are not in your control and not covered by the lease agreement, you need to take a pro-active stance and take control of the situation, not do this tit for tac stuff. Send an email to both letting agent and owner that you will turn off the cameras that could compromise your privacy and open you to possible recriminations via the computer crimes law. Also point out that the owner himself could be implicated since he has control of the data and liable to prison terms. Tell them you are doing it for the benefit of everyone and will not allow yourself to be open to this possibility during your stay. This gives you the argument to refuse any requests to turn them on and gives you control to do as you please with the cameras.
