He quoted some witnesses as saying the shop owner had told his workers to cut up the explosive using electric tools.

Please tell me there are not people in the world (i.e., the shop owner) really this stupid.

Yes they are and such activities are not uncommon.

Safety and common sense do not exist in Thailand outside lip service.

yea, there were some guys up bamboo ladders messing around with the electricity cables near my place the other day. didnt appear to be there in any official capacity, had basic tools and no safety equipment. they lived to tell the tale and the power stayed on. they might not be so lucky next time.

  2. sure, thailand can be expensive but it doesnt have to be. my mate insists on eating at restaurants along sukhumvit where the food is less delicious and much more expensive than that available 10 minutes away where i live. you can find a good quality apartment at a reasonable price no problem. i guess if you want to spend your time in bars and need to pay for a lady to pretend she cares about you then you will find the thailand expensive. open your eyes.

  3. ordered some expensive frames from an optician (because they weren't in stock...) they would arrive next week. a bit of a hike to the shop but i thought it was worth it as the optician spoke good english and we had a clear agreement. went back as agreed the next week, he seemed surprised to see me and of course... mai mee. no reason why. no apology. i guess they just hadn't bothered to order them. i bought some cheaper ones from another shop.

  4. in the vast majority of cases it means they want money from you

in my experience any girl who has a decent or semi-decent job never says this. it is a warning sign that a girl is after the easy ride and probably not prepared to work and is probably lazy. there are of course exceptions but i have and would avoid any girl who says this.

Does tripadvisor actually go to these places or Tourism Authorities just send in photos. I have never seen a Thai beach look so pure and pristine as those on the website. Absolutely no dog, rubbish or the cluttering of deck chairs.

TripAdvisor has zero credibility. Anyone can log in using any of a 100 or more pseudonyms and proceed to promote or discredit and service or facility that they choose.

If all the staff at TAT logged in using various false identities, they could readily promote all of Thailand's beaches into the top places...!!

It would be better if they did straw polls in all of these countries, the results would be hugely different.

yea, but that assumes a certain level of 'smartness'...
