All the cases are in factories, markets snd work camps.
Aaaaaaaaaaaaaand...
That's why the bars are closed.

Convenience stores and supermarkets require a year 12 certificate, as do many other employers. For those that don't know, the last three years of the K12 education are optional, but very nearly all children do them as not having the year 12 paper is a real handicap. Many bar girls got pregnant and left before year 12.

My guess is it's going to be a buyers market for international tourists for the foreseeable future. The attitude needs to be "we have the beaches, we have the bars, we have the booze and we have the birds, lets partaaay!"
"A limited number of vacinated tourists may stay two weeks in quarantine hotels provided they wear masks at all times, travel no further than 500m from the hotel and make no attempt at recreation." Is not going to cut t.

So what's happening about the Cobra Gold guys due in Pattaya in August?
-
Because sars1, mers, h5n1, pig flu and bird flu all passed Thailand by without taking their hat off. Sars2 would have been no different if the government had done nothing. People in neighbouring countries aren't dropping like flies either. Somebody up there likes us.

Witherspoons soi buakhao had some a couple of weeks ago.

Great news! Now all I need is the buses running so I can get there.

What is remarkable to me is the number of people living here who seem to be unaware of basic facts about this country. Our stubby little peninsula, Myanmar, Thailand, Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam are are resistant to these respiratory viruses. Maybe someone up there likes us, who knows? SARS, MERS, bird flu, pig flu, H5N1 all passed us by and so would COVID-19, it had nothing to do with government action. It is pointless comparing Thailand to Europe, you should be comparing it to its neighbours.

Yes but who goes out to a morning market in the middle of the night? If this stupid curfew continues to be extended, at least make the hours more sensible like 12am to 4am or 12am to 3am. More people are out late in the evening than in the very early morning hours. This change will benefit very few.
Farm workers are in place at dawn, 5:30. Travel to field at 5:00, eat breakfast at 4:30 purchased from food truck at 4:00 which loaded up at the market at 3:00. Not everybody, not even most, live in a town.

Look, all I want is a quiet beer in congenial company. Is it really too much to ask for the Windmill to reopen?
SE Asia is naturally resistant to these infections. If it comes back it'll be the Chinese and we'll be ready for it. You can't shut down 20% of the economy for a few dozen deaths, that's just a couple of boat accidents.

Where did 4am come from anyway? The wholesale market near me opens at 3am because that's what is necessary to get breakfast to people working the fields at dawn. The local authorities have the sense to leave them be.

In my experience all Thais overinflate their tyres.
I was once told that the reason was they wouldn't need to bother checking the pressure for a longer period which to me has always meant sheer laziness.
Yup. Every trip to the bike shop gets my tyres inflated to 40-50 pounds. I don't think they even have a pressure gauge, it's whatever comes out of the compressor. I prefer 30 front 35 rear. In fairness though, tyres do seem to loose pressure much faster here than they did back in the cold and wet. When I was commuting every day I had to top the tyres up every weekend.

That frame arrangement looks like an "anti tramp bar". If you apply substantial torque to the prop shaft one wheel is pushed down while the other is lifted up. The wheel lifted up looses traction and spins thanks to the diff then drops back down. Rinse and repeat. This is "axle tramp". The "anti tramp bar" prevents that. Is this likely to be your problem?

For us farang who have multi entry and year extension; just look at that page no need to examine every page in the passport as they always do. I told one IMO the last IMO guy 3 weeks ago at airport Immigration did that, found nothing so why must you spend 5 minutes repeating this useless exercise. Or maybe its the only training they get???????
This, oh so much this. My passport is full of stickers and stamps. Every time I go through the IO settles down with a cup of coffee and a snack to read them all. For the love of God, why!
How it should work:
1. Check face matches passport photo
2. swipe passport, computer says no or stamp x days
3. stamp passport and enjoy your stay in Thailand
NEXT!
Perhaps next low season they can have a jolly to Australia to see how an efficient immigration system works.

With the exception of the Mini of course which was designed by Issigonis, but then he was Greek/German anyway so guess you could say from the EEC by birth.
You understand that it is the destination country that imposes IMPORT duties and that it can stop doing so any time it pleases?

They only do the checks the first time. After that it's straight forward so no big hassle really.

I find mosquito bites often get infected even though I don't scratch them. Quickly cleared up with antibiotics, a nuisance though.

I'm pretty sure that all those bagpackers wouldn't be going to Phi Phi to party if there was an alcohol ban.
Perhaps the guide was referring to the restaurant you had your meal in.
After buggering about with google earth I think we went to long beach rather than the main area. Long beach, or at least the end we were, seems to be an alcohol free muslim enclave.
So, top tip, if they say they are going to Phi Phi, check where on Phi Phi exactly.
I'm a bit miffed about this, it's like saying you'll take someone to London for lunch and then going to Southwark.

Dude, hundreds of thousands of tourists go to Phi Phi and Railey and drink alcohol, why you managed to find somewhere that wouldn't serve you only you will know although bars typically don't serve alcohol to people under age 15!

I was staying on the adjacent beach, Tonai. Had no problems there at all. Took a longtail over to Railay, walked into the first restaurant, was refused a pork dish because the restaurant was Muslim. Just my luck to pick the only one maybe, but that is what happened.
On what we were told was Phi Phi the guide on the boat said alcohol was not available and there was a sign on the beach for a Muslim prayer room. Again, I'm just telling you what happened. Maybe the guide was having us on and it wasn't Phi Phi or it was a different beach or something. Anyway it was pi$$ing down and no beer or bar to drink it in was not enhancing my holiday mood and I was glad to get back to Thailand.
PS I'm a wee bit over 15. By about half a century.

Nonsense, alcohol is readily available in Phi Phi and Railey, we were in both location only a couple of months ago and they are both littered with bars.
East versus West sides is horses for courses, there's resorts on both East and West sides (Paradise for one), the airport in the North and bus station in the East.
Obviously I was imagining it when I was told I couldn't have pakapow moo on Railay or alcohol on Phi Phi yesterday. Lucky you are here to correct me.

In Phuket at the moment. Firstly, if you want to go to the islands, start on the Krabi side, not Phuket. The reason is the resorts in Phuket are on the west side but the docks and islands are to the east so every trip involves a lengthy minibus ride to the other side of the island. The boats are running normally but if it rains you will get wet. The boat boys are very helpful but be prepared to tip. Also note that Railay and Phi Phi are Muslim so no or limited pork or alcohol.
