What a terrible shame that the dismal state of politics in Thailand over the past few years has led to the current hugely expensive, fragmented and sub-optimal public transport system we now have. Propper planning would have integrated all the systemms with common rail and propulsion systems. But of course when the scope gets too wide deciding how to, and who will decide how to divvy-up the tea money becomes difficult. So the result is what we have now. As in other countries the airport link should have been integrated wth/linked with the BTS/MRT or ideally a common system. Re Makasan, try to make the best of the choices that are left. But keep the coloured politicians out of the process or another disaster is on the cards.

Yes Mr Arrowsdawdle please take your head out of the sand and see what reforms are underway and, that would never have happened under PTP. Or maybe you prefer the type of reforms the Mr Chalerm tried to introduce.

Reporters who are competant do their own research others who are just there for the coffee ask stupid questions just like this one did, The answers to his question were already there he/she was just too lazy to do the research. Well said Mr PM !. Make them listen to your speaches, read their own and other newspapers, do the analyses and then they will have the answers. Or is this beyond their capabilities?

By the people for the people are you crazy? Get elected by the people by buying their votes and then reap the benefits for yourself. Create as many absurb projects as possible so that you can cream off a %. How did Mr big in Dubai get so rich so quickly? Hope the current government are able to reset things for the benefit of all Thai's, they deserve it.!

NLA President Pornpetch was spot-on with his comments, peace has been restored to Thailand, a majority of Thai's approve of the clean-up now in progress, let's hope the current set-up stays there until they get the job done and, that they do stay true to the people, Always a risk where power is involved. What was the option, a megalomaniac with Emperor aspirations and self perpetuation?. Thailand deserves and needs its own style of democracy as it enters a new economic era within ASEAN. The Singapore model is an example and during the years of economic development the Government there was far from what the purists would call "democratic" but it was effective and for the people, not self centered and primarily aimed at enriching certain individuals as was the norm here.

Strange that when the totally un-democratic actions of Yinglaks government were taking place the US's silence was deafening.

From press reports he committed three offences, speeding, licence, equipment tampering, and the fine Baht 5000 and 7 days suspension, way way too light. From listening to the video this guy has an attitude problem, this fine will not change it, He is the type of guy that should not be driving public transport until his attitude is changed. Make him an example 5000 each offence, and 3 months suspension. The word will soon spread. We all know lack of enforcement and slap on the wrist,s like this are why things don't change.

You take your job good or bad, Taxis are a service business, what would happen if a waitress decided it was too far from the kitchen to bring your meal, The law says they have to accept the fare. Feel sorry for those who live in areas that are not popular. Wheel lock those taxis who wait in no parking areas and only accept no-meter tourists. Soi 4/6

This table( need to scroll down) gives a comparison of real costs of various fuels, did it some while ago so some prices may not be up to date.
For effective comparison the price you pay per unit of energy is the only way to compare litres vs kg ie Diesel/gasoline is sold by liter LPG/CNG by kg.
You can see CNG wins hands down, Diesel second, LPG 3rd, But the price of LPG is rising, My suggestion CNG or E 85 etc the way to go.
Fuel cost comparison LPG CNG 95 E10 95 E20 95 E85 95 ULG Diesel 40.93 B/lit 35.98 B/lit 24.58 B/lit 48.45 B/lit 29.99 B/lit Baht/kg 21.38 Baht/kg 10.5 Baht/kg 31.11 B/kg 27.34 B/kg 19.39 B/kg 36.82 B/kg 28.491 B/kg Baht/1000Btu 2.253 0.969 3.489 3.19 3.064 3.976 3.252 Engine Effý % 25% 24% 28% 26% 25% 30% 40% Baht/effective 1000 Btu 9.013 4.037 12.459 12.270 12.257 13.253 8.129 This line gives the comparative cost for an equivalent amount of energy after an assumed engine efficiency Heat values BTU/lb BTU/kg kg/lit is factored in. -
It would be nice to see some of the sukumvit street vendors off the sidewalks. It's a nightmare there for pedestrians.
It's started and I'd prefer the stalls to be there much earlier than 7.00 pm, even all day.
What do you do if you need a hundred Viagra tablets at 5.00 pm? Pay a pharmacy B 1500 when you can buy on street B200??
Maybe you should buy the real ones, not the fakes from China they sell on the street stalls

Want to make a fortune in fines? try the soi between Sukhumvit 4 and 6, normally 10 to 12 taxis illegally parked looking only for no-meter tourists jaunts and since the soi is so narrow the motorbikes (travelling both ways in the one-way soi) cant pass so jump to the footpath. Dare to confront them at your own risk!. Of course Lumpini's finest are just around the corner and ride by often without seeing a thing. Maybe too busy with other business.
-
To those who ride on footpaths, it is against the law because it is dangerous to those walking, you can try to justify your illegal actions as much as you like, but it is wrong, dangerous, selfish, and stupid. Accept the facts

Seems you are all missing the point, you have to have isolated projects or you cannot contain the flow of funds !!
-
It IS illegal for motorbikes to ride on the footpath and it is dangerous and destroys the pavement. Oh! and by the way it is also illegal for motorbikes to travel the wrong way in one way streets/soi's. Am hoping for the day when that one is enforced also.

Seems strange that if the truck "turned abruptly" he was still able to stop with the rear wheels still on the roadway so his turn speed must have been rather slow. Could it have been the motorcycle was going a little bit fast and though he could get to past the turning truck ??

Even though the question relates to A$ to Baht exchange rate, the value of the Baht is based on a basket of currencies the most important of which is the US$, therefore if the US$ moves so will the Baht. The A$ is freely traded so it can move independently of the US$. Thus if the A$ falls against the US$ it also falls against the Baht and visa versa

Be sensible, look at what the big banks are forecasting, they use the best informed people with access to relevant date. Citi and NAB are both forecasting a downward trend thru to 2015, Citi forecast US$/A$ 0.86 in Dec 1014 and 0.82 in Dec 2015. I have found their trend correct, timing is often out a bit out and there are short term up and down swings, around the trend line. But the forecast trend is down. So if you have to bring money in do it sooner than later.

You seem to have received much good practical advice but little about the basics. Room air conditioner are temperature control units. The air passing thru the fan-coil unit is cooled and in the process some moisture is condensed, the amount depends on the dewpoint. The higher you set air temperature the higher the humidity will be assuming the air was above the dewpoint to start with. If you want to condition air based on a desired humidity level you have to cool the air way down so that the amount of moisture left in the air is small and then reheat the air to the temperature you want. In other words you are drying the air by cooling it sufficiently to condense the moisture out to a level such that when it is reheated to the temperature you want the lbs of moisture per lbs of dry are at the humidity level (or below) the level you want. Normal room air conditioners are a compromise. You can set them to a temperature but not humidity level, the latter depends on what humidity level you start with, how much air is recirculated thru the fan-coil unit, what the level of air ingress is (outside air leaking in), and thermal gain (heat coming in thru windows and walls). Suggestion, get someone to do the calculations to determine what size unit you need based on the specific parameters for your room. ie. window size orientation, air ingress, etc etc.

NOT cheap compared to the toll from Jakarta airport into the city at least as long and less than US$1. The Don Muang tollway original build contract had a lot of "fat" built in and included a clause that all overpasses on the ground level road had to be demolished to help force motorists to use the upper toll road. This is why there is so much congestion on the ground level road now.

Yes! the devil is in the detail, allow another DNA test BUT will British Police be allowed to observe and verify all the procedures so that they are willing to certify the results. This is what the international community is after. It is not Thailand's sovereignty that is being questioned it is justice as served up by RTP, We do not need to cite examples for this concern.

Unless the authenticity of collection testing and verification of DNA of victims and accused is certified by a credible independent authority such as the British police doubts and speculative theories will not abate. It is in Thailand's interest to allow this to be done. Surely it is a win win for the reform effort of our good PM.

Soi Jai Samarn connects Sukhumvit Soi 4 and 6. It is narrow and one way and clearly marked with no parking signs. Usually there are between 6 to 12 taxis illegally parked there waiting for "day trip tourists" from the adjacent hotels. Tonglors finest pass regularly, but they only clamp private cars, (very few). Dont even bother asking any of these taxis to take you to a local destination, they will only take day trippers for a negotiated amount. Oh! just a warning, be careful if you walk this Soi the remaining road space makes it dangerous especially when the motor bike taxis come the wrong way.

Taxi drivers fined for rejecting passengers at Bangkok's MBK Center (again)

Great work ! Some months ago got into a taxi at MBK with daughter and her two young kids, when I insisted on using the meter the driver threw us out in pouring rain. I know not all drivers a bad so it's good to see the rotten apples being targeted.
