  1. My experience at Bang Sue (Oct 19) was much more 'user friendly'. After completing the same brief form as prior to the first injection, I was directed to a vaccination point (doubles as data entry). A mere 13 minutes after walking through the door (just before noon), the job/jab was done.

At the vaccination point, I enquired about a certificate and was directed to an adjacent bank of PCs - a little more data entry and a certificate was readily printed.

On departure following the recovery period, I was asked if I felt well, told how to treat any consequent fever, and asked if I needed a vaccination certificate.

Needless to say, the certificate gives the fabled 13 digits, aka the Alien Registration Number. I didn't use the QR code but, instead, entered the ARN into the MoPH app, entered the OTP, and provided a password - a 6-digit number. BINGO!

The whole process ( both doses) was extremely well organized and, sorry nay-sayers, reflected very favorably on Thailand and the Health Ministry - nothing short of brilliant!

Entrance is west facing, and the vaccination and 'recovery' areas are near the eastern side.

The Bang Sue MRT is to the east of BS Grand Station - I walked from the MRT (about 10-15 minutes) but, after crossing the rail lines, a taxi or motorbike would have been a better option.

I assume a taxi from the MRT would be another possibility.

An earlier post mentioned the daunting crowd outside. I agree but I went directly to the door of Platform(?) 2, asked about 75+, and was taken inside the station.

  3. Early this month, there was breaking news that tracing apps were to become compulsory. At that time, the Thaivisa thread advised  that both the Mor Chana and the Thai Chana apps would be acceptable alternatives. Since that time, it seems, only Mor Chana has been mentioned.

Is downloading the Thai Chana app accepted by the authorities as meeting their legislated requirements, please?

My dad was in the US Air Force and stationed at Rhein Main Air Force Base, that was on the other side of the Frankfurt International Airport in Germany.  We went on the airbase ring road and watched the first flight arrival of the 747 which was flown by PanAm.  Definitely impressive back then.

A memorable event for you to share with your Dad; a lucky lad, indeed.

  5. I paid two bills via the app this week without any problem. One qualified for, and received, a 3% discount, the other did not.
I had some difficulty paying last month; uninstalled & reinstalled the app and no more problem.

Another bill coming this Friday and, OP, I'll PM you if the app continues to work for me

    and non patients?

Good question. WHO video says people with no respiratory symptoms (fever, cough, or runy nose) have no need for a mask; indeed, it says they can give a false feeling of protection and can be a source of infection if not used correctly.

Perhaps, if masks were being used by only those who need them they would be more widely available.

    Not sure what you mean.

Pacific Cross guarantees renewal to age 99.

Premiums go up as you age, of course.

I (and the manager, Pacific Cross, Pattaya) am saying that PC will only insure over-75s if they have existing cover - contrary to a previous post, they will renew but not commence cover. In the words of the PC Manager, "... we cannot insured the client who age over 75 years (first entry)".

My policy says it can be renewed up to age 90 (not 99) but also says they can decline to renew an extension at any age - so much for guaranteed renewability.

My reference to age 80 (an age point raised by an earlier poster) was in regard to extension of stay; meaning whenever insurance becomes unavailable, the question of renewing the extension of stay without insurance is raised. And no one seems to have an answer yet.

I have learned from Pacific Cross that they will now consider applicants to age 80.

For O-A compliant health insurance policies.

    Tj

This has been the case for quite some time but only for those insured prior to turning 75. The Manager of Pacific Cross, Pattaya, has confirmed this morning that, quote, unfortunately, we cannot insured the client who age over 75 years old (first entry), unquote.

But, even if cover is available up to age 80, the extension of stay outcome after age 80 remains unclear.

    To the OP,

"If only I could write like that"...(much admired).

Agreed. Apart from the split infinitive, which is probably acceptable these days, it's a piece of gifted writing. I might have included a comma or two but, dotpoom, full marks to you for drawing attention to this refreshing contribution amidst a sea of illiteracy.

  10. I have a Citibank Bangkok USD account and, for succession purposes, want Mrs S to have a USD account in a Thai bank. The account must have full internet banking facility. SCB have opened a USD account for her and said yes to internet banking but, when it came time to setting up passwords etc, could not be done - apparently a website work in progress.

Should I just try other SCB branches? Your experience/solutions, appreciated.

    Some weird replies. Anyway:

    1. 40-passenger bus leaves Ekamai Bus Station (under the Ekamai BTS Skytrain station) from about every 10-20 minutes (depending on passenger traffic needs) during morning and afternoon, to roughly every 30-60 minutes later in the day. Arrives at Pattaya North Road station, 2:15 hours to close to 3 hours, depending on Sukhumvit Road and highway traffic.

    2. A big bus leaves the airport Public Taxi level every hour to Jomtien. 134 baht. I have taken this and gotten off at Pattaya Klang/Soi Noen Pub Wan ( a standard drop-off point on Suk) and walked over the pedestrian bridge. This bus does not go to Pattaya Bus terminal. At the airport, you sometimes have to wait for the next bus, which could mean a wait of up to nearly 2 hours, if you arrive 45 minutes before a bus, which is already sold out.

No ripoffs. At Ekamai station, go to Window No. 1. It says Pattaya. Pay 108 baht. You cannot book ahead.

Further to this excellent advice: I think that the bus from Swampy leaves from Gate 8, and the Jomtien terminal is on Thappraya (near Fraser's Sports Bar) and close to the intersection with Thepprasit - lots of songthaew (baht bus) options from there there.

Perfect answer to your question. It is quick, simple and safe. Best advice ever is not to take a minivan - very dangerous indeed!

  13. To state the bleeding obvious, the NRA's most potent weapon is their financial control of politicians. Drastic reform of political donations might be part of the answer; and making the NRA financially responsible for victims might help to reshape their thinking - but pigs will fly before that happens.

I was particularly impressed with a psychologist's argument recently that mass shooters seek personal notoriety. And that an embargo on publishing their names would defeat that purpose - seems worth a try to me.

We're told that most Americans support significant gun control. If that is true then, ultimately, it is a failure of their political system. Just how to fix it remains an unknown.

The bottom line is that, without drastic legislation, these massacres will continue until the NRA concedes that the gun laws need drastic reform and that the constitutional right to bear arms is an outdated concept.

Contact Centerlink direct and fill in the  paperwork they want. Not sure why you would be contacting the consulate, other than to fill a stat dec if required.

Here is the form to notify centerlink you are seperated.

    https://www.humanservices.gov.au/individuals/forms/mod-s

you can lodge and advise centerlink via the mygov website.

People seperate, awaiting divorce, everyday. Even in Australia there is no official separation document, the most they could ask for would be maybe a stat dec.

More good advice from Peterw42. Alternative email address is [email protected]

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say NO. Not unless you tell them.

Although we live in the information age, do you really think the Thai government is correlating a list from the local Amphers and sending it to all the governments of the world ?

Lots of people think that the "free to marry" stat dec from the embassy is informing the Australian Government, its not !

Even if the Australian Gov noted the contents of a stat dec, (they dont) its not proof you got married only freedom to marry.

I think Peterw42 is spot on. In your shoes, my concern would be that you are legally required to notify Centrelink of any changes to your circumstances. Thus, if they were to become aware at any time in the future, you may have a huge over-payment and there may also be criminal ramifications.

This type of line cutting happens to me all the time at the Lotus 10 or less line by Thai people. Can't just pinpoint foreigners alone for this type of behavior. These "thick faced" people just walk past the line like they don't care and dump their stuff in front of the cashier. Also, there are a number of times where "10 or less" is just a suggestion and full carts are accepted as well.

Methinks you, too, might have a problem; what else can we infer from it happens to you "all the time" when, to most folk, it happens never or very rarely? Fortunately, help is available.

  17. I have an AIS 50/20 deal but, according to SpeedOf.Me, I am currently getting 20.4Mbps/11.69Mbps.

The speedtest.net by Ookla shows 51.01/11.82.

I'm told the SpeedOf.Me reading is more realistic but the reasoning is beyond my ken.

Our Pattaya condo is 10th floor - some say that may be problematic.
