Take a look at that room and tell me why you think it was murder and not suicide?

That guys life is worth jumping out  a window for...although I never understand the decision to not just OD on pills after a night of boozing it up.

    Painless, no mess.

There is an assumption here that "pills" that bring about a peaceful death are readily available in Thailand; and I doubt that is the case. Even if they are available, the extraordinarily high incidence of "jumping" suicides  indicates the information is little known. Mr Mahlendorf's case is particularly gruesome and heart-wrenching.

I am surprised that the right to a peaceful death is not more widely discussed on TV given the apparently high number of elderly members. Organizations such as Exit International and Dying With Dignity are shedding much needed light on the issue.

  2. Yes, covers both lines; you will also find the MRT every bit as convenient - and sometimes more so.

YouTube has demos on how to use both. Also, if you're over 55, MRT has a Child/Elder option (might require a small bond) that reduces fares to, I think, less than1/2 price. PM me if you need more info.

  3. The better informed members here can help me with something this post brought to mind for me. I donot wish to disturb the post but wish to understand something here.

I always thought caddies knew the game and the player could even seek advice on how to play the hole or the situation. Even give advice on best club to use etc. Am I wrong on this?

    Yes. and sometimes no.

I don't mean this disrespectfully but take it you have not played much in Thailand?

Unfortunately many courses do not train their caddies so they learn on the job - if they are any good. Even those that mentor in a group cannot do much if your ball position is a long way from the other players balls.

Even caddies who have been there many years may simply have no interest - IE like 9-5 in an office and going through the motions.

They vary from the very good to basically a bag puller or cart driver. Sometimes they cannot even give you the correct distances especially to anything other than the centre of the green.....

This is why if you get a really good caddy - keep her Caddy number so that you can book her the next time you play at that course. Its also a good idea to get her mobile number so that you can text her in case the office forgets to tell her. When you are playing golf for four + hours it makes sense to have a caddy who doesn't disturb you. she can may also help you but you shouldn't expect a Steve Williams or Bones for THB350!

Most groups I have played with in Thailand accept that caddies break the rules unknowingly and allow a 'first-time' warning to the player, after that you are on your own - so always mark your own ball.

In social play you can pretty much do what you like but allowing a 'first-time' warning is, in itself, a breach of Rule 1-3 Agreement to Waive Rules.

  4. I doubt it.

I'm from Florida so Thailand is a lot like home to me = I like the weather.

I worked up near Chicago for 10 years and NEVER got used to the cold.

Anything less than 78F & my teeth start chattering.

I understand that there are several factors that effect climate but most of Florida is much further north of the equator than Thailand. (Southern Florida 25*N, cf. Thailand's south 5*N.)

I suspect that acclimatization is as much about a mental acceptance as it is about a change in physical comfort levels.

  5. I took my replacement passport to Immigration this morning to have the visa transferred. Everything looks good except the old non-OA visa was multiple entry and the new one does not show "M" or multiple anywhere. My Thai is very basic but Mrs S. confirms - sorry, I can't scan the page for you.

I assume I am still entitled to multiple entries up until the "Enter Before" date of 9 Nov 2015. Am I correct? Thanks

What old Pattaya? It was a fishing village little more than 50 years ago. Juxtaposition. That's a big word; it's bigger than marmalade.

your very witty reply, not the comment about Pattaya but the word comparison had me falling around the isles.

That is pure humour and off the cuff, much more needed and wanted here on TVF

If you think that was the height of humour .... I think more medication is needed.

I could not agree more. Suggest you keep taking your pills.

  7. If your accommodation is all paid and the 1,000 is just to spend, then yep you can do it. Although it won't be a whale of a time. 1,000 baht a day isn't exactly "two week millionaire" territory.

    Here's your day:

    Breakfast 100

    Lunch 50

    Dinner 150

    Massage 200

    Beers x 5 (at a beer bar) 250

    Baht Bus x 3 30

    Tips 80

    Coffee x 3 140

    Bar Fines - Nil

    JD Coke - Nil

    Lady drinks - Nil

GoGo bar thrills and spills - Nil

    Have a happy holiday. whistling.gif

This budget has it pretty right and can be done assuming the final four items aren't on your shopping list. Of course, the B200 massage does not include a "happy ending". Enjoy the street food and don't be put off by appearances. It's a fascinating place and can easily be done on the cheap if that's necessary.

  8. Take a look at the condo listed after yours and see the difference in how to advertise.

Get some better photos, no-one is interested in the 3 photos of the quality desk your laptop is on. How about a photo of the bedroom? The glass enclosed kitchen is so much of a rarity it's not even mentioned in the ad, never mind pictured.

What does fully furnished comprise? What are the many extras in addition to all the furniture?

Thanks. I take your well made points (there is a photo of the bedroom). With regard to the kitchen, I have always felt that leaving a strong selling point out of an ad makes for a clincher with a potential buyer at inspection time. But, alas, no inspection. I will place a new ad incorporating your advice. Thanks again, your comments are appreciated.

Thanks. I've looked at many 1b condos in the past couple of weeks (admittedly in Pattaya) and this one compares very favorably. Are you saying BKK should be a lot cheaper than Pattaya? The glass enclosed kitchen seems something of a rarity.

  10. I have a great condo for rent in BKK and have a Premium Classified advertisement in this forum.

There have been more than 45 hits on my ad but not one phone call. Why???

The ad caption is "Takeover Condo Rental".

Can anyone suggest why there has been not one inquiry in a week?

  11. They've been there for at least 15 years that I know of.

    Usually by the footbridge.

They usually roam looking for drunks - touch them up and whip out their wallets.

They are really good at it....got my phone years ago...3 times

It was the one that was behind you wot did it.

You must have enjoyed it - going back three times.

Was just wondering why they put the phone back twice.
