  1. And yet many Farang still say Thai education system no good, and Thai student stupid.

    Partly because most Thais can't use the verbs to be (look at your own writing).

    Partly because most Thais always assume that all of us from the West are the same (Farang).

    Partly because most Thais assume all westerns speak the same language, eat the same food and like the same things.

    Partly because you insist in thinking that Thailand is a well developed country that has a great educational system.

  2. I do know many nice people from the USA, but I'll list some reasons why your country attracts these feelings:

    1. The foreign policies (already mentioned);

    2. Stating (and believing) that you are the greatest nation on the planet;

    3. Using the term America to designate your country. Imagine what Canadians, Central and South Americans think when they hear "American way of life", etc;

    4. The lack of interest of too many of your countryman on speaking a second language or knowing anything about the outside world;

    5. It goes on, but it seems that arrogance fits the bill for the most part of the issues.

  3. My Thai friend & I attended a franchise opportunity exhibition in Bangkok last year...

    Saw the 7-11 booth & we chatted briefly with their reps.

    CP owns the Master Franchise for Thailand...

    A very well run & experienced business organization.

    7-11 has franchises available to the Thais...

    You can chat with them briefly ...but if you are serious...

    BEFORE 7-11 IS WILLING TO SET AN APPOINTMENT TO FFURTHER DISCUSS A FRANCHISE...

    THE THAI PROSPECT MUST SHOW THEM A BANK BOOK BALANCE OF AT LEAST 1 MILLION THAI BAHT...

    Then the Thai prospective franchisee is given two options:

    1. Pay 1.5 Million Thai baht and they select the location and train the Thai to be owner/manager.

    The Thai receives guaranteed salary of 27,000 Thai baht monthly.

    IF at end of one year or more, the Thai is not happy with the franchise, 7-11 will buy it back and pay 1 million Thai baht.

    2. Pay 2.4 million Thai baht and be co-owner with 7-11 and share in the store profits.

    I believe the Thai can receive 53% of the store profits...but has added profit/loss responsibilities.

    Staffing, utilities, shrinkage, stock.

    Again, if not happy with the franchise, after one year can ask for 1 million Thai baht in cash back to sell back to 7-11.

    I am sure there is more to know and learn. But it seems to work well for many Thais.

    tj

    So I burn 1.5 million Bath and have to work my ass off and I won't make enough to pay a third of my bills

    If I wanted to be exploited I would stay in my homeland...

  4. Although it is sad to see a teenager beat up, I fail to see what this has to do with Thailand. He was not assaulted by Thai men. It just happened to be on Samui during a Full Moon Party.

    I do not mean to sound callous, but these kind of assaults happen every single weekend in Australia, the UK, Ireland etc.

    Young men, pissed up (maybe some drugs involved) out on the town often leads to senseless violence.

    Lets put things in perspective, shall we? I am happy to see that Samui police managed to catch the perps.

    Reading through this whole thread amny have gone beyond the photo of a fat lipped and black eyes Jack to teeth out hit with a bottle and an ashtray. TOOOOO trying to get visa's rebuffed to American Univ. What is happening to TV??? The kid got his ass kicked and told daddy he was innocent of all things. Come on people specially Global Moderators n this thread advocating the hangings too WAKE UP> Life is for the living and not always pretty.

    It doesn't matter if he provoked them. Assaulting someone over a discussion isn't acceptable.

  5. now Brazilians can sing; 'la la la la la la bomba!' ....as in bombing out.

    If I was in Brazil right now, I'd grab the prettiest sobbing lady and whisper in her ear: "Don't worry bambina, I've got something that will take your attention off that sad defeat."

    Yeah right... La Bamba is a Mexican song and bambina is an Italian word.
