  1. You plugged something which is suppose to run on 110v into a 220v supply didn't you ? silly boy ?

Yep. TBH I didn't give it much of a thought. I've plugged in many US items in Thailand before without issues. This is the first time something like this has happened to me.

  2. Well I'm bummed. I brought my Nutribullet from America with the idea that I'd be making my smoothies. I prepared my veggies/fruits as normal and plugged it in. Next, a lot of smoke and sparks shot out from the motor. I think I fried it.

    My questions are...

    1) Can I purchase a comparable device in Thailand?

    2) I'm surprised that this happened. I can charge my laptop, smartphone, etc... Why am I able to plug these items into a Thai socket without issue and not the Nutribullet.

    Thanks...

  3. OP, it's taken me a while, but I finally realised that there are rules regarding the General forum that simply arent posted anywhere on this board.

    1. Never start a thread in General Topics unless you're prepared for confrontation

    2. Never start a thread in General Topics about anything that isnt a general vent about some aspect of life in Thailand - the more generic, the better

    3. Never, ever start a thread in General Topics about a personal matter that you care about, however small that level of care may be

General Topics simply isnt the place for advice regarding relationships - period. You should have typed this up, read it a couple of times and closed your browser.

I should know better I guess.

  4. My girlfriend doesn't work at a bar. I also doubt that she has another boyfriend on the side. Anything is possible but I don't see that happening.

I think all women want a decisive male. I am not a decisive man, and I think this upsets her. Also, just before she gets upset she will say I think too much. It's her way of saying I'm asking way too many questions.

She is most definitely looking for a falang to give her a better life. She doesn't date Thai men as she's always saying that they are no good. All her friends date falang men as well.

I will have to wait and see...

  5. I am having a discussion with my Thai girlfriend on the apartment that she got for us while I was in America. She's trying to explain the situation to me, but her English isn't so great.

The deal is this. It's a small studio apartment that lacks a kitchen. I'm fine with it. The place is brand new so it does look nice. The outside looks run down though.

We have to pay electric, water, and rent. She's been in the apartment for a few weeks now. She had to put down 22,000 baht when she first moved in. Now, the monthly rent including water/electricity is only 7,000-7,500 baht. The monthly cost depends on how much water/electricity we use.

Why did she have to put down 22,000 baht? Do they request a first month and last month rent deposit? Is this common practice in Bangkok?

    Thanks.

  6. It first started in New Jersey and has just progressed since I've been in Thailand. I went to the hospital tonite and got an injection, penicillin, and painkillers. None of it has worked as I'm in serious pain. I can't even sleep. I'm hanging off the side of the bed, and I'm gurgling my mouth with warm water ever 5 minutes. This is my only relief. The pain shoots right thru jaw if I lay my head down.

Going right to the dentist tomorrow. In the meantime are there any home remedies for the pain?

    That is abscessed tooth.

  7. I just got my first shots today. I got the rabies and tetanus shot. I need to go back for more to complete the package.

Its funny that you guys mentioned how the dogs will chase you if you're on a bike. I was walking into the dentist office and sure enough a big dog went after a woman on a bike. I thought she was going to get bit for sure. When I got out of the dentist office i walked down a dark street w/ my girlfriend. I was sure that we were going to see some dogs. Luckily, we didn't see any.

I noticed that most of the dogs are on the side street and not on the main drag.

What's the alternative? Maybe I can wear shin pads in case of an attack? Lol.. The Thais don't fear these dogs. My girl thinks I'm crazy for even getting the shots.

  8. You are being a little paranoid. Packs of wild dogs will not be there to greet your incoming flight. Been here 16 years, seen plenty of stray dogs, never been bitten or had a rabies jab. In the unlikely event you do get bitten, then you would have a course of rabies jabs as soon as possible after the bite. Enjoy your stay and try and think about something else.

I was reading something about Bangkok and this issue was brought up. To be honest I didn't even think about it until I read someone's post on stray dogs in Bangkok.

    Thanks.

  9. I just touched down in Bangkok. I forgot just how many stray dogs roam the streets. Although most are friendly I'm positive there are a few that would bite you if given the chance.

I didn't get the rabies vaccine while I was in America. Should I get this done, or is it unnecessary? Have you guys had it done? Finally, has anyone been bitten by a stray dog? What's the best action to make sure that a bite doesn't happen to me.

    Thanks...

  10. Hello everybody.

I received my double entry visa into Thailand, and I will be there Thursday night, My question is do I need to show the people at customs that I have a flight out of Thailand or not? I'm either going to be working as an educator in Thailand, or if this doesn't work for me then I will be flying to Korea in September. If I'm going to be working in South Korea my school will just buy the plane ticket for me.

    Thanks.

  11. Be aware that working on a Tourist visa is illegal. The chances of getting caught are rather slim and the chances of getting into trouble if the paperwork has been submitted are even less. We had a teacher on a tourist visa who got caught but faced no punishment because the school had submitted his paperwork. But that said, it is illegal.

It's my understanding, and I could be wrong, that the OP would have to get a provisional TL first, since he will not have taken the Thai Language and Culture course, which I thought was required for everyone.

Since it is the school that will probably be preparing the paperwork, you can expect delays.

Does your new employer know that you are leaving in September? There is a break in October and it might leave the school in a difficult position if you leave at the time when the exams and grades are being done.

Thanks for the reply Scott. I don't want to put myself in a bad position when it comes to teaching. I didn't know that teachers need to take a Thai culture and language course. In Korea nothing like that exist.

I know paperwork takes time. I don't have the job yet and I'm not going to be 100% sure until I get to Bangkok. In regard to leaving the school in a difficult position I didn't realize that there was a break in October.

    Thanks.

  12. The worst thing that happens is I spend 2-2.5 months in Thailand, and then I fly to Korea for my job in September.

Can I find part time work teaching? Is that even possible?

Please check your inbox. Can't believe how much nonsense people are able to write.

    Cheers-wai2.gif

Its all true, I am not lying about anything I posted?

No, You're just totally off-topic, disruptive, and unhelpful. I kept waiting for this very patient OP to get an actual answer to his question and it didn't arrive.

I suspect the help he needs will arrive from Sirchai via PM.

That's fine. I just take in what people tell me and discard the rest.

If you read my other post on whether or not I should teach in Thailand you will see that I got hammered quite good. It's only the internet so I don't take things too personal.

    :)

  13. Option 1:

Continue to masturbate alone every night living a lonely terrible miserable life in an ugly depressing part of New Jersey that has not yet been gentrified not making any money with no friends and with with no reason to believe that anything will improve.

    or

    Option 2

Roll the dice in Thailand with a woman who claims she loves you. At the very least you can give five finger Mary a vacation.

Why aren't you on the plane yet?

    .

The plane ride to Thailand sounds more appealing. And 5 finger Mary does need a vacation.

There is nothing here for me in New Jersey. I just fear that I will be homeless in Thailand.

Still, I don't want to look back 20 years from now and be filled with regret because I didn't take a chance.

I am in a sort of similar situation to the Original Poster. I can either stay unhappy and close to the poverty line with a shitty low paying job in Australia or go and live with my partner in Thailand and help him build his business? Although I also am very unsure of what might happen I will be travelling there in July with no plans of returning. Regret is a terrible thing to have to endure for the rest of your life (which could end at any time)

Ah nuts. I brought this topic back by accident. I'm going to Thailand mods.

please delete/lock this thread. Thank you.
