  1. Nahh. All this gives life to the city. Do we really want to see Bangkok turned into yet another bland, faceless capital city, with clean, well paved, streets, well dressed people, and starbux and KFC on every corner?

while tourists are readily found haggling over knock-off handbags, T-shirts or cut-price DVDs.

How many of them do you think come back if Bangkok turns into yet another bland, faceless capital city

These people come here because of this....

  2. How about getting rid of the sand flies (if thats possible). They are my main reason for using sunbeds. The sunbeds should be more competitive - how come they all cost 80 baht from Pattaya through to Jomtien. Seems like they all got together and decided how much they can get away with. A couple on holiday for 2 weeks can spend 2240 baht just on sunbeds! Last time I was in Turkey the sunbeds were free as long as you purchased drinks or food from a nearby restaurant.

Not only Turkey, this does also happen on certain beaches in Thailand, i have a beach i always uses, it does have free big mats with table pillows and shade....... as long as i buy stuff from the vendor providing it....

being far away from the tourist area is only the bonus......

  3. I am quite sure the governor is right. Would tourists really go protest at the police station, or would they just forget about the issue and lie on a towel?

The "protesters" are not necessarily tourists. They could as mentioned be expats living here pretending to be angry tourists. They could even have been paid to protest.

Plenty of beaches in Thailand have tourists lying on towels, and that seems to work fine.

I hope the ban stays in place, and that the jetski mafia will be next.

    Welcome to Asia!

I totally believe this is true. there is always a twist.

Think about a little. would a tourist that is on holiday for a few weeks only, join up with a angry demonstration? what on earth would he achieve with that? he is on home in a couple of weeks........

there is definitively more to this....

    After all TIT

  4. IT is in general a nice and safe place.

    I love the French influence,

Been in Thailand a long time and found it more expensive in Vientiane.

    Taxi and food vice.

The expats I talked too said get a motorbike.

Tuk tuk will start at 100-150 baht regardless of short distance so I tend to walk a lot when I am around there.

If your friend have been around Bangkok he will not be ripped off because he will know it already

Tuk Tulks are the biggest scams

Very French means most places close early appart from bars and clubs, meaning many deserted and empty streets meaning normal safety don't walk around in dark alleys

    Your friend should be ok

  5. Here in Rayong all daily expenses gone up by 25% in the past year, fried rice, ice coffee, beer, bag of pineapple, etc. I see the same with ingredients bought in the market or supermarket to cook dinner. Groceries are now at a European price level, the US is cheaper already.

Yes, recycler is right The cost of living have actually gone up a lot over the last 2-3 years and not only in Rayong.

But as TIT you would not see it in the way you think....

The packet of cheese or butter is priced at the same as before more or less (+2-3 Baht ) but the amount you buy is a lot less... Packaging is the same size so you still feel it is same.... but in fact you will need to buy more in a shorter interval .

A very good example and proof of this is enclosed picture.

I used to stock up on CP Sausages, (4 in a pack) usually from Tesco or 7/11, buying bulk 10+ chuck it in the freezer and use when needed.

Cost aprox. 40 Baht (used to be 38 now 42) The pack looks the same as it has for years...

Back to the picture, as you can see i opened two packs from my freezer and discovered this....

Having studied this in more depth i discovered that it is not a singular event.... packet of Lays potato crisp before 65 Gram now 53 Gram cost same 20 Baht. and the list goes on...

so it is a sneaky way of avoiding getting the government on their neck by upping the prices too much, as we know that they like to try to regulate.....

so better cut the amount of product and keep prize the same....

Street vendors are doing the same, they might keep the price the same, but you get less food for your buck.

    Amazing TIT

  6. All this is a play for the gallery.

After the coup they promised to clear up all this, and they started very good in Phuket, continued to Hua Hin and promised to clean up all mafia and scammers.

    Now six months later

    Phuket back to normal

    Koh Samui not touched

    Pattaya not touched

    Rest of country not touched.......

big words and lets hope people forget it soon...

Last week i was in Pattaya and tried to get a Taxi to switch on his meter.

    "no have" was first response.

When i pointed out that i know he have but he had packed it in a towel... he say "no meter in pattaya, good business for me"

All ten taxis i asked refused meter....

    Back to original post.

    Someone need to change headline.

"Phuket Jet-ski scammers shut down" need to be changed to

"Phuket Jet-ski scammers told not to do it again" with a profit

  7. What a joke.

    TIT

    He is still in profit.

    100K swindled

    only paid back 45K

    fined 10K

most likely another 5K to the delightful broker that made sure that I did not get arrested for fraud..... (thanks mate)

    Stil 40K in profit...... cheesy.gif

you can hear them laughing all the way to the bank........

    TIT

And to top it off, they are still saying they cleaned up in the mafia in Phuket?

and the beach and the jet-ski scammers....

    does not sound like it...
