Shame they didn't just lock the idiot up straight away. There are enough locals who have a dim view of foreigners already, without people like this making it worse. One can only hope when he goes to court that they will decide he is one of the "bad guys" who isn't wanted and kick his sorry butt out.

Given he was facing the death sentence, can't really blame him for avoiding ten years or more of absolute misery in a dung hole Thai prison waiting for it. Had his moment in the spotlight and went out in a blaze of glory, with little other options left. I hope his wife sees some mercy from the courts, but my experience says probably not. Mitigating circumstances here do not really get much heed paid to them by Thai judges, many of whom deserve to burn in hell for their hypocrisy in taking bungs to achieve "desirable" results, in flagrant disregard for what they are on the bench for.

I guess it depends on how many more of us they want to leave. They have been tightening the noose for some time now and expat numbers have been dropping steadily. While many businesses depend on us, the authorities do not seem to view us as mega desirable, so it wouldn't surprise me to see the stranglehold tightened to push all but the filthy rich out.

Decency all round it would seem. Taxi drivers so often get a drubbing for their woeful actions, so nice to hear of a good one and him being well rewarded for his honesty.

Perhaps the family would have preferred for the hospital not to have tried to show some initiative. Apparently while hand made it was doing the job required, which is better than the staff doing nothing. Thailand is a third world country after all, so to expect first world gadgets in every medical facility, especially government ones, is asking a bit much.

Why do they need a biometrics system to spot overstayers? Surely the date of entry in their passport shows that. I also find the numbers being quoted truly unbelievable. Maybe the person compiling them has recently been transferred from TAT.

Especially for those getting on in years some insurance really is a wise idea. Forcing people to take out packages they don't want or need at exorbitant prices though is plain wrong.

I am firmly of the belief that charges should be made for the appropriate services which have been rendered, and those should be the same regardless of who you are and where you are from. The local supermarket operates on this basis and seems to stay in business after all. The national Parks have been charging foreigners huge mark ups for years, resulting in many foreigners avoiding the places. Keep gouging foreigners and then they can scratch their heads as to why so many have left or aren't visiting anymore.

What is really lucky is that you haven't killed or seriously injured someone in that time period.
I would like to think you learnt a lesson from it, but if you have been driving about <deleted> up for that amount of years regularly probably not.
When you do destroy your life and probably someone else's too, please don't come on here and ask for sympathy.

1 minute ago, webfact said:Thailand tourism: 40 million will visit "for sure" next year
Given that market forces including the very strong Baht are discouraging people from coming, not to mention the accident and injury rate, I wonder what he will say if and when the number isn't hit. Most likely he will just do the normal thing and tell barefaced lies. Can't have tourism numbers going down now can we?

Now, I agree that his actions were utterly despicable in the first instance. He has probably only given himself up, as he knows it was a matter of time before he was caught anyway. I am going though to give him a slight thumbs up, for admitting his guilt and paying for the hospital bills voluntarily. I do though hope that he gets well slapped for the negligent driving charge, because a petty fine will not discourage others from driving poorly and doing a runner too.

Lucky the local police didn't accompany immigration, as there would have been numerous locals picked up too. Very selective racist targeting going on here, which to my mind is nastier for the image of the country, than the prostitution itself, which is after all, why many people come here.

It seems that the "Good guys in, bad guys out" rule only works when the person concerned doesn't have sufficient cash then.
Local cops must love this fella. He is keeping them well funded. I feel sorry for the locals who have to put up with such an idiot, who is clearly an embarrassment to his parents as well as to farang in general.

Walking in with an entourage like that along with TV cameras, I am not quite sure what he expected to uncover. Does he think that these rip off artists will do it in front of him? He might be super rich, but you have to question his intelligence if he thought this was anything other than a PR stunt.

Money talks and so the renters of bikes will continue to carry on as they have always, unless and until punitive measures are introduced that make it prohibitively expensive to do so. I don't expect that to happen any time soon mind.

Different licenses for bigger bikes is all very well, as are dedicated bike lanes, the problem though comes back to the fact that many people simply don't have a license at all, a large number don't wear a helmet and they go wherever they please, including the wrong way down one way streets. Rider education and implementation of existing laws will do a whole lot more than making people with big bikes get a different license.

Sadly the same seems to be repeated here on a daily basis. Being held responsible for your awful actions is just too much loss of face. I am sure they will catch up with the little toad shortly and I hope they throw the book at him, said book involving substantial jail time.
RIP two innocent people.

What this article doesn't mention is the Lib Dems running a solid third and Brexit Party and UKIP slipping away. With Labours policy resembling a reed in the wind, Lib Dems could pick up more, but that Tory lead looks hard to crack.
An election is still a little way off though and as they say, a week is a long time in politics.

Obviously it depends on what sort of base you like, but the all round best pizza I have found anywhere in Pattaya comes from Cotto Italian in Nongprue. Perfect crust (for my liking anyway), great base sauces and top quality toppings, cooked to perfection.
Bit of a trek out there as it is on the road to the Million Year stone and crocodile farm, on your left just as you turn in at the slightly staggered crossroads from Soi Chaiyapornvithi. Worth it though.
They do deliver, though mostly to the darkside, but I got them to Soi Buahkhao one night for a bit extra.
Very reasonable prices too. From 180 on regular and 280 for large. 60 Baht delivery.

What can you say? Intelligent people know to buckle up the instant they get in the car. Then again, intelligent people know not to drive like a complete lunatic too. Once you have seen the face of someone who has been through a windscreen, you really should understand the logic behind seat belts.

I saw the same thing happen one day when having lunch on Soi Kaonoi when they were putting in new storm drainage. The orange cones all floated away, the water covered the drain holes and some poor guy turning into a side Soi drove straight down a huge hole. Took half a dozen people to get him and his bike out. Never ride anywhere in the rain since.

Pattaya: American "brain dead", wife gives conflicting story about pregnancy/shooting
in Pattaya News

I think they have been watching too many zombie movies. If the guy is brain dead, he is not going to be getting up and making further escape attempts is he?
