That's my point. The peanut gallery loves to hear "Thais are stupid and incompetent," which is the raison d'etre of so many of your posts. Feeds the bigotry. So, members should know this is what they're voting for and this is what's in the lead.

I don't really want to get in an argument here, and I do respect your position. However, the point I tried to make earlier was that when I see the news, I will respond with the comment that I believe to be appropriate to the event. Sometimes my comment will be on the money and liked. Sometimes I will be off the mark and get ripped. Sometimes I will be humorous, sometimes scathing. No one gets it right all the time, but it is a forum for people to post their differing views. My post will be my view, regardless of whether it please the "peanut gallery" as you describe them, who also hold certain views, much of which has been gained as a result of the experience of living here some time. I don't know what your honest view of the country is. I know what I see week in, week out. Sure, there is stupidity all over the world, daily. Very few will argue that Thailand has less than its fair share of that. I have many more Thai friends than farang, and I love them very much. Many of them agree with my observations in many areas, some don't in other areas.

I seriously like Thailand or I wouldn't still be here. Should I feel free to criticize that which I think is broken and needs fixing? yes, I should. Should you be free to tell me I have it wrong, you should too.

I see nothing wrong with people holding minority or majority views. It is actually very healthy, as it keeps us all in compromise to the benefit of all.

Lastly, I have taken your comment on board, quite seriously, and Thanks for making me sit down and think about the whole thing and the reasons I am here.

I edit, to mention, that I largely post in the interests of honesty, the respect of the law, though largely not the people running that section, moving forward as a Nation and overall sanity.

Maybe we can ask the finalists one question each and see who offers the best answer?

So, I normally get a number two crewcut but lately my ears seem to have grown some.

Should I continue with the number two, or cast caution to the wind and get a number three?

I always thought a number two was synonymous with shit, so I would go for the safe bet of number three!

We should post some representative posts from the leaders so that everyone may be sure what they're voting for (but of course, they probably are). I'll start off:

Beating the crap out of the very customers you need to generate an income is not a particularly wise move, which is I guess, why it happened in Thailand.

Actually, it happens in other countries as well. But all Thais are stupid, you see.

darksidedog was one our most virulent Tunnel Flooders (stupid Thais!). Ignored my request for a status update.

To be honest with you I don't recall ever seeing your status update request re the tunnel, which I recall had more than one issue with water before it ever opened, so in point of fact, I didn't ignore it. Now, re my post of this morning, does that sort of thing happen elsewhere? Yes, I guess it does, but in my experience, having worked over very large chunks of the world, it happens a lot more here than other places. A significant number of people "liked" that post, so it seems many agree with my comment.

Speaking of which, I currently have nearly six likes per post across the board, while you have less then 0.5, so that seems to hold true with much of what I post. I find it a little ironic that your catch phrase is quitcherbitchin, though in fact that doesn't seem to hold entirely true in a chunk of your postings.

Whatever, this is a forum where people are free to voice their views. Some will agree with yours or my postings, some will not. I will continue to voice what I think and I will respond whenever I feel it appropriate to do so, as all others here are free to also do.

Let me say what an honour it is to have been nominated for POTY, i am humbled.

Reading some of the posts in this thread make me want to weep.

Never in my life have i read so much nonsense.:cheesy:

Keep it up folks, it helps me forget my problems, i have not stopped laughing for days.

Whatever jingthings on must be powerful stuff, as he has not stopped rambling( put more soda in next time)

Sorry must go got my acceptance speech to write...... Ohh sorry now i am rambling, it must be catching.:cheesy:

Come on folks, vote for poor old me, please make me happy.

I wasn't at all surprised to see you nominated. The only two surprises I have seen is that I got nominated too and that you aren't winning it by a country mile. I have already voted for you, so all that is left is for me to say Good Luck, and I hope the fence sitters out there aren't blinded by the ramblings of some addled and delusional posters, and put you on top, where you to my mind should rightfully be. Vote Colin people.

I liked Transam's story about the cage being for the cat, and the dog just visiting...

Any man that covers up for his dog's dodgy past gets my vote.

Since the cat isn't standing... He's the real hero; "come on, son, do a runner, while you can.  I'll cover for you."

But the dog's not convinced, because he knows that once you owe a cat a favour...

When my dog had killed most of the cats in our neighbourhood, I didn't deny it, I just moved. Thankfully a few of them were found dead in our fish pond, rather then chewed up in the street, so the neighbours couldn't say too much. It was my Muslim neighbour that decided me. Given his religion he was never a fan of the dog to start with, and once the tally got to 4 of his, confirmed dead Persians, I thought it time to leave before a new ISIS branch opened up in my Soi.

Sorry Jingthing, I voted for Colinneil.

  6. The problem with amnesties are no one ever knows when they are coming along, how generous they will be, or even if you will be eligible at all. Last year there were two, so far this year none. Aside from when it will occur, is if your friend will benefit. To be eligible, you need to have a "class." This goes from standard, to good to excellent. The better your class, the higher the percentage off you get when the "Apai" comes round. To get a class, your case must be final, so appeals are finished and its a minimum of 6 months from that point to get a class. If he was sentenced April 2016, he should now have a class of either standard or good, giving him in all probability a 1 in 5 or 1 in 6 reduction at an amnesty. However, in the last one, those on a first time offence with a sentence of under 4 years, having served a year or more, with a class, were given automatic release. Additionally, certain offences, such as sexual, tend to not receive amnesty, though again, this is not universal. The whole thing is a lottery.

It is quite a cruel and inhumane system. People with the same sentence can serve vastly different periods depending on what time of year they were sentenced and if the Amnesties were well timed.

I have been a prison visitor for 10 years and have been to three different prisons this week. Please feel free to message me, if you would like to discuss details in private. My best guess is if luck holds out, he will be released as soon as the next amnesty rolls along, but it is anyone's guess when that might be. Normally special occasions like Mothers Day or Fathers Day, but you never know.

  7. I heard Colinneils wheelchair got clocked, on his way to lay a wager, at 90 in a 30 zone, but when the cop found out what a sure thing he was to win, forgot about the ticket and gave him a lift to the local underground bookie (The Chief of Police probably), and put his months pay down along with Colins pension. Go Colin! :cheesy:

Honoured as I am to get a nomination, I look through the list and see some excellent posters, who regularly provide informed and entertaining views, one name to me stands out. My son said it this morning and I concur that Colinneil is a great contributor, whose observations and humour make reading anything he writes a pleasure and he gets my vote hands down. Good luck Colin, you deserve this.

  9. I said at the start of the whole thing that once the cops got the bail money it woud be hard to get it back. Bail should have been 10,000, not the 50 or more they charged. Find a half respectable lawyer (asking around should get you a decent recommendation), and get him to negotiate. Once the fine was paid, there is no reason, other than corruption and greed , for any more money to be paid. As it is a misdemeanour, he shouldn't even really have a problem with immigration. After paying the fine, he should have been free to go where he wants, as long as he has a visa, which the court should have given him. Good luck. Pay them as little as possible. Suggesting you would take the case to Regional level to complain will probably help.

  10. I have heard of this from two sources. Once from a visa agency who said he could do it, and the information he gave me, I checked with a senior immigration Officer, who is a neighbour of mine, who confirmed that Yes, it could be done, and that the person would have a 30 day visa at the end of it. Both of them quoted 90,000 baht for it.

Neither said that the person would have to get a new passport, though that may have been an omission.

  11. Best value has to be Nung Roys on Soi Kaonoi. Excellent curries with rice for 100 Baht. Their whole menu is the same price and their Lasagna and Lamb kebabs are awesome. Its located at the front of what was Hells kitchen about 500m East of the railway. Seems to open late afternoon till about 10pm.
