  1. No I don't think so. You make it clear that you have zero respect for the immigration so you will wear what you like ( ok so far?) so I said it's up to you but don't come whingeing and whining when you get f***d over by them..

    ( still with me ?)

comprehension skills fully functional but thanks for the disgnostics.

You almost got there. Try again old fellow.

There shall be no whining from me.

  2. I lived in Bangkok with and without children and think you are just going to have to bite the bullet.

Taxis - while plentiful have no rear seltbelts or child seats.
BTS - No elevators, I had to carry a stroller up and down stairs many times and it blows in summer
Uber - def a better option than taxis. Easy to order and usually have rear seltbelts. Only issue might be availability when you really need one.
Walking - motorcycles on footpaths, holes in the ground, non existent footpaths and hot.

We live in central Bangkok near the BTS and wrestled with the same decision. Ultimately given the state of the roads and drivers having our own car with approved safety seats meant we decided to just bite the bullet. I think it will be one of those things where once you do get one you will wonder why you didn't earlier.

Lol OB.  Yeah, the statists who love big government and nanny-state regulations will finally get their wish.  But this is the inevitable march of progress.  God only knows that Thailand needs to get serious about regulating their roads, but commercial over-regulation eventually leads to a hamstrung free-market.  But it is what it is.  Many farang will feel much more comfortable as the state imposes more regulations and sanctions; guys like me will faded into rural Thailand where the incessant creep of government over-reach is much less obvious.  And by the time Thailand becomes an over-regulated, burgeoning, bureaucratic state like it's Western counterparts, dinosaurs like me will be long gone.  So what the heck?  Take a deep breath...relax!  It's all good my man, it's all good!    The only constant in the world is change!

I get you. I'm not a statist but I do particularly like being alive and have grown fond of my children. Progress is inevitable, isn't it?

Pretty soon Thailand will become like any other non-nondescript city around the globe.  The street vendors were a part of Thai culture that made Thailand a unique experience.  This march toward increased regulation and "cleaning up the streets" simply makes Thailand like any other overly developed country.  I believe that they take these regulatory measures at the risk of affecting tourism.  I sort of envision a day when Myanmar becomes the 'new Thailand'.  If they ever get their act together in that country they'll pull significant numbers of tourists away from Thailand for tourists looking for quaint, cultural enriching experiences that were available here in Thailand but have changed drastically over the last couple of decades.  Thailand!  The new Singapore!  Well, how boring is that?

I don't really care. I live and work here pay my taxes and my children have to use the footpaths that are incredibly dangerous with motorcycles riding on them at speed. As a taxpayer I say good riddance. Do you really think tourists will stop coming because vendors might have to actually leave space on the footpaths to walk on (and not force pedestrians on the road) or because motorcycles can't ride on footpaths? Laws need to be enforced. The road toll is horrendous here precisely because these minor laws are not enforced.

  5. This is a bit nonsensical. Esp. this bit "If you can handle the agreement with money or don´t know anything about how real relationships work".

I am not "ashamed of myself" in any way shape or form. You think I should get her to ask for money constantly, or demand receipts and a full ledger on a weekly basis?

Neither of us NEED to work, and I have money - this is just a question of equitable allocation of finite resources and responsibility.

He's saying you made the wrong choice.

Quote 'city police will face transfer for negligence of duty, he said' - this is the problem in the Land of Smiles - there is no deterrent in the form of punishment of Police for neglect of duty nor worthwhile deterrent for law breakers. Inactive posts appear to be positions in the RTP as very few take any action of consequence. Having said that, I live here of my own volition and accept that Thailand is different; why should I criticise a country where I pay no taxes, have no mandate and enjoy the climate, the food and the relative peace.

I live here for work and pay a lot of taxes of which I don't really seem to see any benefit from. Motorcycles on the sidewalk really gees me up especially as they don't ride slowly and are a danger to my children. I therefore feel quite ok criticizing the country and people that think this is ok.

  7. Most foreigners coming here have ample income whereas so many Thais are struggling. Everyone has a relative back 'home' who is financially challenged; would you show up at their door looking to stay and eat free or not have any house rules? Do you understand where I am going here? Fill out the dam form and be done with it. So much whinging. My guess is that your family told you to hit the road.

It's the "and be done with it" that doesn't seem to be done with. Understand where I'm going?

  8. What are you all complaining about? Many western governments are doing exactly the same for many years now, mostly not in a such obvious way as visiting homes but in many other ways. The American government has been screening phone calls for years, as well as emails. For few years now they demand all other governments to disclose any and all financial information as well as property holdings of Americans and green card holders off shore.
In Thailand so far there has been no control of foreigners staying here. Many TV members (well, mostly it's friends of...) are overstaying their visas, many work without legal permit, even more are exploiting the visa exempt program by doing visa runs for years. I am pretty sure that already many years ago Thailand was a good place for criminals to hide in, but according to many news articles reported here on TV, seems there are too many of those bad guys here nowadays, and taking measure to get it under control is good for all those staying here legally.

That's fine. But what are the accomplishing with this? Surely the multiple visa runs could be sorted at the border. Overstay is an issue yes but what it seems happen is the people doing the wrong thing don't bother with 90 days etc. what information are they gathering that they haven't already gathered? It's a pointless waste of time.

  9. The police nust take care the Thai people. Many forener come to Thailand and make trouble. eg. Cut the body and put in the river and the freezer. do the bombs, kill the Thai with car and motorbike, steal the ATM, fighting the Thai people, killing the thai peple, get the drink and not pay, stay long time but not have the visa and more.
Everyday police have the problem. Many many problem because the forener have in Thailand. And crazy people.
So they must check the forener.

I don't disagree with you but I'd hazard a guess at least 95% of crimes committed in Thailand are by thais. Anyway, if they need to keep tabs on foreigners there is a much more efficient solution for both foreigners and immigration if they would just look to their neighbors.

  10. It seems to me that the reason they ask for the same forms to be filled out several times is simply this; it's their trap for people who may be making stuff up. I doubt they would be identical each time. But if that is what this is, it's a simple trap to circumvent for anyone with an IQ above 80...

I always just thought it was an employment program.

  11. It seems perfectly reasonable that a competent government would want to keep tabs on non-citizen alliens who are residing within their borders, either for work, school, or retirement. (If my country did this, it might not be overrun with 30 million undocumented people all around the country doing who knows what). If you don't want to be treated like a resident alien...don't be one.

Agree. If the government was competent however, there is a much more efficient way of doing this. The answer is out there if they care to look.

  12. Ah.  ID cards. Thailand's a step ahead of you already.  Get your Thailand ID card for foreigners in just 16 easy steps . . .

That's interesting. They really should just roll it out to all foreigners with a valid long term visa. Works in every other country.

  13. A lot of posters on this site have a tendency to talk about Thai people like they are 1 big homogenous group who all think the same. Sounds like the OP might be an older gentleman whose demographic is always complaining about "young people today". Most of the Thai people I know wouldn't care what someone was wearing on the BTS. A temple would of course be a different matter.
