1. The "Evidence substantiating purpose of visit" in your case would be a certifcate of guarantee....  a sample can be found HERE (pdf)

You can PM me for more help if you like as I have done the same..

    totster  :D

As Tots says you/ll need a letter of guarantee this can be completed by anyone in the UK (mother etc) all the forms are downloadable from The Hull Thai Consulate website including a relatively new one that indicates how you are paying.........dead easy.

Turnaround time including postage 3-5 days max.

Edit..........reason for visit box "visiting family and friends"

OK I understand now and thanks for clearing that one up for me, letter of guarantee is no problem, never thought at the age of 45 I'd be asking my dad again :o

  2. Should be arrested for making loads of movies all with the facial expression!!!!

Unfortunately this chap is paying for the "sins" of those who have come before him.

He may well have been just jamming (never forget there is always two sides to any story) and has been unfortunate or there may be more too it than meets the information to hand.

Some may say the Thai Government is being heavy handed or short sighted - dont forget all the characters here and other similar countries who exist on handouts (running a bar for board & beer) bumming beer, cigarettes, a meal and I am talking Farang not National.

We could also apply this (heavy handed stigma) to our own Governmants ask those that want a simple genuine visitor visa for a GF - very very difficult to obtain -Why because our Govts are making them (those who wish to travel now) pay for the sins of those who went before and abused the hand that was offered.

A simple jamming session looked at in isolation is very innocent but ask the questions:

How long has he been doing it?

How long has he been in Thailand?

How does he support himself? (maybe the answer lie here)?

How much money does he bring in to Thailand each year?

No I am not sour but I witnessed the "down & out" brigade being moved out of PNG and then RoP maybe it is time KoT applied the same move on "boot" - not wishing them on any country but new fields are opening next door.

Let the genuine Farang- the teachers, the holiday makers, the retirees, the marriedees, the workees, the volunteeres - the tourists, the businessmen. the genuine jammerees and pyjamaerees relax by revising the rules to read guidelines because these type of stayees may well become good genuine proliferatees. (Nearly forgot the Laszeees - couch potatoes giving meaning to the term Mun Farang )

Before I let you have your way with me Republig of the Philippines - RP (RoP used to assist in tranlation) Kingdom of Thailand (KoT) Simple to me but then as they or I thinks you will say Simple things for Simple minds.

  3. but we only talk to ugly guys, as a rule

    Good rule... :o

    totster :D

SiamOne - thanks for that, I am off to the Plastic Surgeons - Until now I couldn't fathom why all these beautiful well educated and not so well educated (who am I to judge) always wanted to talk with me I thought aha its the ATM card I have stapled to my forehead - TRUTH being after today I now know its only because I am Ugly (my mum didn"t think so or at least she didn't say so) so I will change that one Tom Cruise lookalike coming up and Then and only then will I be able to sit and enjoy my Kiddies Meals at the Golden Arches in peace.

  4. Hey H90,Thailand is the only country I know where you need at least a bachelors degree to work at Mc Donalds.

    eh? Really? :D

I knew a guy that worked for one while he was studying for his bach degree, but that cant be true can it?

Is that the same "bachelor degree" that you get free with a happy meal..? :o

    totster :D

They didn't mention going there to eat the OP (tgf7) needs to read between the lines and go there to meet the in-crowd.

Once he has achieved this he can move out of the kiddies group stop playing I will look at yours if you look at mind (joke).

Get him/her self into gear and meet some peoples of his/her own "era" note tgf7 I say "peoples" it is suprising how many guys or their GF's know others that you may get to know and possibly like.

The big hint here is get off your ar#e and do something for yourself if you want things on a platter then go down the Soi with your Baht pay-up and stop crying in your beard.

(yes I am aware the OP said meet girls but how many peoples start a request "this friend of mine")

  5. I am not a psychologist but......

    I can't resist!! :o

So you are good looking, on the outside? what about inside, Jai dee etc, that is more important

and just attracted to Asian women...do you mean Thai, or Japanese or what....and why??

as for normal Thai women, they seem to be everywhere, they even work in bars. One of my best friends works in a bar, she is not for sale, just a job. So just talk nicely to any woman, don't think you can have sex just because you are such a good looking guy, and maybe you will meet a perfect woman.

In conclusion to all of the above:

A wise person once asked is it true, that in some parts of Thailand a man doesn't know his wife until he marries her?"

Written in the clouds above was a message for all to see, "That applies in every country"

So do not ask where do I meet "nice" girls as all girls are "nice" just that some are nicer than others and remember this applies to the male species too some will say oh so true!.

On the subject of you are looking in the wrong places this is probably truer than you think why it was only the other morning "I said to my mother in-law in the shower" whats on the agenda today? She kindly replied same old thing I guess. 555

  6. present residence address certified by embassy or Immigration bureau

certified by Immi is ok, certified by embassy is not enough - you have to get that paper translated into thai and have both certified by the ministry of foreign affairs, department of consular affairs, 123 changwattana road, Laksi, Bangkok, 10210,

    tel 981-7171 :o

paper from immi is a lot cheaper and faster! :D

Chico i must disagree with you I initially obtained a 1 year driving licence with certification from Aust Embassy (not typed hand written by self -they then stamp & sign and kindly relieve you of considerable baht for the service provided)

Last month went in renewed M/C & Car licences this time issued for 5 years once again certification of residence from Aust-Embassy.

The only stipulation has been. It must be original will not accept a photo copy. Same deal for my two motor bikes and a car when transferring ownership and reregistering.

    Brian's Lament

I sit here at home overlooking the Chao Praya with the (thai) guys and gals from the teaching game whom I have known for the past 20+ years and wonder if my next move should be "show me your GPA" or just ask politely ask would anyone like another drink?

The decision was easy a few more :D chang, and that cosy little ajarn up the end might be ready to hit the sexspots with me - alas she has read my thoughts and appears :D I am:unsure:what my next move should be - Do I say :Dor do i just stick my head in the Sand like so many other people and tomorrow continue to Complain about my "lot in life"

No contest think of tomorrow as another day and request the thread be:closed1:Why waste my :D:D with issues that i can gripe about with my "fellow-expat-friends"everytime I need too.

Excuse me ladies and gentlemen would anyone care for another refreshment? :D Due to lack of forethought by the OP request the thread be :o:D

  9. Looking at popping to land of Oz probably October any recommended sites for good prices. Will consider sitting out on the wing for the right rate if necessitates. :o

Being a little bit more serious when are the low/shoulder/peak - periods for this route?

  10. Seems very very cheap - friend just bought 6 rai 30kms out of Khon Kaen for 300000 which was a good price negoiated by the mother-in law who owns well placed land all over the place. She is a crafty old thing and capable of looking towards the future. All her offspring have land in the bank that way they can't squander it away - hubby a retired Ajarn with 3 of the offspring teaching and coincidently even managed to marry one of themoff to another teacher (thai guy who I knew from @ James Cook Uni).

  11. This is not just an off-the-cuff reply, but based on teaching full time in Thai schools for the past two years.

    A. Farang are in charge of nothing in Thai education.  We have at best a 1% influence or input on decision making.  The decisions fluctuate with each revolving-door Minister of Education, and nothing substantially changes.

    B. Farang who are available to teach, and willing to teach, are welcome to apply in their moobahn, where they are respected members of the community.  It's a nearly thankless, virtually impossible, incredibly difficult job, where you go months without seeing results, and minutes without being disappointed.

    C. The drunks and sexpats already have a few of the teaching jobs in Thailand, but that's beside the point.

Good luck; you'll need it.  Everybody teaching in Thailand is already doing volunteer work.  And farang are NOT being paid enough, at all.

PB your points are quite valid and actually two of them add weight to the belief there needs to be change:

    B. It is those volunteers and partially legal (- WP, - V) professionals that stand to gain by having a better system surely!

    C. Maybe and I only say maybe - by having a larger base from which to select from it may be the start of the end of - The drunks and sexpats who under the current arrangements already have teaching jobs in Thailand.

Your comment "Everybody teaching in Thailand is already doing volunteer work" I take encompasses "The percieved low salaries being made lower by the expense of constant visa runs". Simple answe YES but how do you solve the problem is the real question?

I am not saying that the above is the only answer but unless the topic is aired in an open and frank way with suggestions being salied to and fro, its not going to change. The constant revolving Edn Min happens I believe because they the Ministers are not providing viable solutions to the education problem in Thailand!!

I am no expert just considered it was worth public discussion I would be more than happy for someone more qualified - Teacher, Long term Expat, Bottle-O, to take up the thread and either promote or kill it off as a waste of electricity!! now back to an area I do know something about :o

  12. I knew you like it, if you are from down under.

I take only credit for posting it here, othrs mailed it to me, same as this one

    (takes some buffering)

    http://www.mla.com.au/uploads/templates/ot...vich_90_sec.wmv

It was good to see Sammy again. (for those that don't know or maybe even don't want to know Sam (the Man) Kekovich was a star Australian Rules footbal player in the late 60's eARLY 70'S - he played for footscray!!

  13. So are you suggesting that any farang can teach

and all those alcoholic woman chasers are going to 1. want to teach and 2. be able to teach.  Teaching is a skill and an art and it takes a long time to be good at it and many/most people will never be good at it because they just don't have the right stuff to be able to do it.  To suggest that all those farangs already here should just be enlisted to teach is a poorly thought out idea at best.  Sorry if I'm being harsh but when I think of all those farangs in the bars and go-gos in Phatong and think about your idea.....well.....just think about it youself abit and then post what you think.

    Absolutely agree with Chownah.

For goodness sake you can't believe that you can just pick anyone off the street to teach English or any other subject.

To teach well you need to have the right knowledge, attitude and dedication. Better be good in psychology and people managing skills especially if you teach the big classes. Not every farang in Thailand fits the requirements!

    Response in kind

Obviously you guys are in the teaching game and are entitled to your opinion - the concept of the post is to open a think tank on the subject so therefore the Pros and the Cons need to be aired - try taking off the blinkers and avoid the stereotype cop-out = just to extract some of the comments not to denigrate but to highlight the typical one eyedness approach:

    1. are you suggesting that any farang can teach - Simple answer NO

    2. alcoholic woman chasers are going to 1. want to teach and 2. be able to teach - are you concerned about "alcholic". "women chaser" "want to teach" "able to teach"? Does your rationale apply to the "alcholic men chasers" too?

    3. Teaching is a skill and an art and it takes a long time to be good at it YES So what value are the inexperienced Graduates providing?? or are you suggesting (forgetting Thailand at the moment) They "the inexperienced should not be teaching??even in their own countries

4.To suggest that all those farangs already here should just be enlisted to teach is a poorly thought out idea at best I don't think I said that all the farangs, if this perception was given "Apology submitted" intent was "Some" -To use the PM's words "lets start looking outside the SQUARE

    5. For goodness sake you can't believe that you can just pick anyone off the street to teach English or any other subject. Have you ever considered how many "farangs" successful in their own right are here relaxing as the first respondee said not all "farangs" sit in bars all day!!

    6. To teach well you need to have the right knowledge, attitude and dedication. Simple answer YES

    7. Better be good in psychology and people managing skills especially if you teach the big classes. Not every farang in Thailand fits the requirements! Lets look into that a little shall we:

    ## psychology and people managing skills - Does't this apply to most walks of life?

##especially if you teach the big classes - are we suggesting only teacher can manage large groups?

##Not every farang in Thailand fits the requirements - Simple answer again You are 100% correct- this of course includes those "professional teachers"who become indignant when their profession is mentioned - yet I wonder how many of them tinker with their cars, fix the odd door, or even dare I say change a light globe or on the more technical side replace a plug on an extension cord?? (I wonder who TAUGHT them to do this -Probably their Dad - hope he wasn't just picked off the street??

A bit narcy at the end sorry about that and to chownah and cmsally thank you for the input lets hope it encourages more, then we may ask the Admin to parcel it up and pass on to the Minister - It would be interesting to see if he gained any points from the CEO for looking outside the SQUARE or was just poo hooed for considering there are worthwhile "farangs" living in Thailand! :o

  14. Hopefully I am not stepping into the deepend here - so firstly I would like to clarify this is in no way an attempt to undermine/undercut the Professional Teachers currently working here in Thailand.

I have enjoyed reading the pros and cons of various threads on this forum:

    1.Volunteer English Teacher

    2.Part Time Teaching

    3.Teachers Needed

    4.Teaching

    5.How About Teaching Something Else?

    6. Bring English Teachers From South Asia

    7.Thai Friend Needs Teacher

Throughout the above threads common thought patterns repeatedly appear, WP or no WP, Visa or no Visa, Legal or Not Legal, Volunteer or Not Volunteer etc. I have tried to steer away from direct reference to Degrees or "English" because I opened this topic to promote some healthy and sensible discussion on the viability of Thailand making use of the "untapped Farang workforce" sitting inside its borders.

The PM spoke about bringing English Teachers From South Asia which certainly has its pros and cons, but what about a project involving those "Farangs" who are willing to participate in passing on language, technical and life skills to the Thai communities.

To use the PM's words "lets start looking outside the SQUARE

Payment could be achieved through a combination of Baht, WP's, Visa's etc. it may even take away some of that "why do they pay a farang X times what I get?" and also the anx of border hopping or whatever the current flavour of staying in LoS is.

Some may say "completely-ridiculous TiT" others may say no-way! then again some may say why not give it a go?

New Education Minister as of the reshuffle there is an old adage in the work study world "there is always a better way" and as an young (sic) madam I know said - under age participation - If you don't ask we cant say no!

    Over to the floor :o

  15. Samran I think a lot of us are wary when dealing with bureaucracy and forms but i also believe it is fair to expect correct advice and good service when dealing with our overseas missions.

    Mate,

A very fair point and one that I totally agree with. But, we have to live in the real world on this one, so its every man for himself. At the moment, the department of immigration is a joke in terms of management, so much so, that the department recently stripped a leading Australian of his citizenship due to an adminstration C0ck up. See here

Also, I have to say, the poor people who work in the consular section do have a tough job. They have to deal day in day out with absloute tossers who should never have been allowed out of the country in the first place. Always make a point of being nice to them....if at all possible :D

On another point. Where has Khun Sumon gone. She was the older Thai lady with the behive hairdo who worked on the passports desk for years. She was as tough as nails and occasionally grouchy (though she was easy to butter up to.....) but she did know her stuff and was very proffessional and would have saved you people the run around.

    Samran

Tossers some of us may well be but I think the 80/20 rule applies and these not so poor [in terms of Aust Allowances (perks)] Public Servants need to put ina fair days work for more than afair days pay and that includes supervising their staff. If you dont think they are on a good screw lets ask them to post their Aust Wage + additions/allowances for the stress and trauma of working at an overseas station. ( Remember we have DFAT consul & DIEA Immigration & never the twain shall meet)

Khun Sumone "The older Thai lady with the beehive hairdo" was the one I was referring to when I said in my initial post " previously I had received Good Service"

To the best of my knowledge she is still there but the younger brigade seem to run and flit and of course the "F" in the Consular Section are smitten by Khun "F" you are a wonderful wonderful man.

You have described her perfectly and "No brickbats for Khun Sumone only flowers"

She was as tough as nails and occasionally grouchy (though she was easy to butter up to.....) but she did know her stuff and was very proffessional and would have saved you people the run around.

:o:DYES YES to everything you have said about Khun Sumone.

  16. camerata yes for sure and maybe it is time some of the Expat staff started earning the big bickies they are paid whilst in these jobs.

I actually sent an email to the embassy but depends upon who has first access will be directly proportionate to the response.

I have also posed some questions to DFAT in Australia who have responded in part and my respondimg email indicates this.

    Dear Name removed for confidentiality

Thank you for the quick response but you have not answered questions No1 and only partialy answered by referral question No2.

This question was not addressed in your response!

Question 1: On lodging an application for a renewal of passport should the outgoing passport be retained by the applicant for identity purposes until the new one is issued?

You have given me half an answer to question 2, if I had any faith in the information or level of service offered by the local overseas mission in Bangkok I would not have resorted to emailing DFAT direct.

2.On receipt of the new passport do you also retain your old passport

which contains current visas and exit by date for the country you are in?

    # If the answer to the second question is no please advise what needs

to be done about transferring the current visa and the exit by date.

I resubmit my request with the added request, if you can not provide full and comprehensive advice please refer it to a supervisor.

    Yours sincerely

name removed to protect the poster

  17. Sorry to hear.......

    but..

My retort is ALWAYS read the instructions. But then again I have slightly lawyersitic tendencies when it comes dealing with bureaucracy and form filling. The guidance forms you get are always pretty good and everything else you need to know is usually on the website. Never rely on anyone else, especially the dumb girl behind the counter.  :o

Samran I think a lot of us are wary when dealing with bureaucracy and forms but i also believe it is fair to expect correct advice and good service when dealing with our overseas missions.

Passport application forms provided to the public before 1 July 2005 are no longer valid. You will need to obtain and complete a new passport application form instead. You can obtain these application forms from this website or from a post office. Personalised passport renewal forms provided to the public before 1 July 2005 will be accepted until the use-by date printed on the form, or 30 June 2006, whichever is sooner.

Does the above taken from the official DFAT web site entitle the gent from Phuket to claim for wasted trip because he received the incorrect advice from the DFAT representative?

What puzzles me about the other Australian (changing wifes surname) is that his wife had an Australian passport already with her photo - and off she went and obtained new photos which is correct I had to do the same -but that is where the similar/equal treatment stopped.

Self Accepted application along with 4800 baht and two passport photos ( I was instructed to print my full name on the back of one photo) Receipt issued (after ID question settled) see you on the 15/8 05 as we are closed on the 12thPH.

B]Thai wife with Aust passort Told she needed to have someone who had known her for the required stat period (X) years endorse her photograph certifying she was the person in that photo??? -off to Chaing Mai no compassion or I will call the AUSTRALIAN who was obviously out in a back office and clarify the situation for you. Especially considering the Aust guy stated he had phoned and spoken to an Australian about the requirement.

Worth noting he had received the same direction I had received over the phone "It is better to have your photos done at the building just near the embassy as they know our requirements (size, clarity & background colours"

Normally I accept things in my stride but as a previous poster said the attitude in Manila used to be bad and I have experienced that first hand too, along with the bad attidude that used to be prevalent here in 1982 at which time i was required to visit the embassy each week for a debrief and the task of extracting $ for consumables but that is another story in its own right.
