Interesting, he returned to hospital today (Wednesday 19th August, 2020), but no mention of the date he was 'released' from quarantine into the general population.

    I wonder why that is?

There'll always be a doubting tom. Viruses change all the time, especially anything "time-wise". What is considered the "norm" one day, can double within a very short period of time

I think about this as Im mid 50s now. Really never expected to be in Thailand this long.

An aquaintence of mine died alone in his room a few years back and I wonder about his last moments.

I have this unnerving vision of keeling over, clutching my chest and my darling wife smiling and standing on my throat.

Kick the wifey out and move your mia noi in her place!

The overly cautious approach, combined with extreme cowardice on the part of the administration, amounts to sadism. They are inflicting untold pain on the masses and on Thai families with foreign partners. Millions are out of work.

The process should be simplified. Anyone, from any nation should be welcome starting tomorrow. If they are willing to support the economy by paying for quarantine, there is no risk, and only upside.

This appears to be extreme timidity on the part of the small and weak men in charge. And it is grossly unfair to the people in tourism.

Also, Thailand is taking alot for granted. They are assuming they will even be remembered once all the delays are over. That is alot to assume these days. Gone, and maybe forgotten?

I predict tourism will never return to it's previous levels, in our lifetime here. Caution and prudence are one thing. Inane stupidity and paralyzing fear is another.

You seem to be implying that Thailand is the only country exercising extreme caution. Name me two or three SE Asian countries that don't, or in fact anywhere in the world. The only attempts at "tourism as we knew it" is among some EU countries, and only amongst themselves.

It is a sign of the times that (with Covid-19 either eliminated or extremely rare in Thailand) behaviour that a year ago would have been seen as normal in a Thai disco is now seen as reckless. There have always been some health risks in close social contact, but people used to see this as just part and parcel of living life. Now, we are all turning into Howard Hughes.

The difference between catching a flu (or in another type of social contact, a dose of STD, for instance) and a potentially fatal virus is not just a part and parcel of living life, at least not in my book. Call me Howard Hughes, but I'd rather be careful than.... stiff?

... New cases, concert, foreign troops, spark virus surge...

I was at an unnamed disco on Saturday. Extremely crowded, temperature taken on arrival and phone number of my girlfriend. Inside apart from the staff nobody wearing masks! Social Distancing a complete joke with people dancing and kissing. Disco probably provides a very large brown envelope. Left at 4AM.

Well, you really are very brave. If everything you described were true, I would have turned around and walked out without taking a single breath. I suppose I must be a coward...

Good luck with that...not many countries do consider these couples. I see many hassles with that

Once the relationship is established, if it can be proven, what kind of visa will be issued ?

A crucial matter, which may upset some, the list includes gay couples as, they too, are not tourists but lovers.

555 and that is only the tip of the Iceberg

Maybe a "Love Visa"? Though I prefer to go along with Stephen Stills..."If you can't be with the one you love, love the one you're with". Plenty of fish here...

the Baht is not going to plummet. Western currencies are going to slowly drop in value.

the Thai economy has contracted about 10% so things are difficult but they will make adjustments like they always do and just have to get by on no more tourism for at least 24 more months.

keep the borders closed and keep the virus out so the local economy can continue to open up and function. I am not talking about expat bars.

Good luck Thailand and keep up the good work fighting the virus.

And the UK economy has already contracted over 12% and is falling further! Thailand will get out of this, especially if they remain focused and strong and resist the pressures to open up before it's safe.
