  1. Does anyone know what is the earliest date to apply for Retirement Extension in Jomtien IO? I generally apply 3 to 4 weeks before it is due, but this year I plan a three-week trip up north which means I would have to apply about five and a half weeks early (40 days to be precise). Would Jomtien IO consider such an early application? I prefer not to leave it until my return from Chiang Rai in case some unforeseen event delays my return.

Thanks for your comments and advice.

Seems to me that living in Thailand is like some people’s only chance of feeling like a pop star . Problem comes when the adulation stops and they realise they are just another normal guy with with no money . Very sad . Rip

Did he confide in you about the shortage of cash? If not, yours is an audacious presumption! If I was a moderator.....

Massage houses are allowed to open but they must refrain from opening sauna and steam rooms while prohibiting the touching or massaging of customers' faces.

Well, they've been told not to massage my face, and I tell them stay away from my feet & toes (too ticklish), so the best is that they concentrate somewhere in between the two ????

If the numbers are true at single digit or zero cases why is the emergency still needed unless the numbers arent correct .

Perhaps their statements are incomplete - maybe they should read "number of new cases, zero; number of deaths, zero; number of tests completed, zero". Then the lockdown is here forever.

Endless bars here in Pattaya have been without (m)any customers even during the high season. I am always asking myself how they survive or if they are perhaps only used for money laundering.

I think this bar business is outdated and should be replaced by more appealing things. Could be the right time now to change this sex and booze image. Alone walking on the Beach Road in not Corona times is a sex hassle for "normal" tourists. But even yesterday when I had to walk to the post office - "I come with you", "boom boom" and other invitations for sex. An open air brothel open at daytime already and this even at Corona times.

    You lucky thing!

Coming back to Thailand can be a problem.  But I am so bored here and need an adventure outside the country so much that I am willing to take the risk.  I believe that if I can get our of Thailand now and have fun in a new country for a month, by then most countries will be open even if Thailand does not let me come back.

Worst case, I can always go back to the good old USA.

Typical Republican viewpoint. Good luck. Get your excitement on Fox News instead.

  7. A lot depends on what Thailand wants. If it is only the TAT favourite, the absolute number of arrivals, this could be accommodated by the Chinese/Indians alone in a relatively short period of time. However, we all know that neither of these countries love to spend any money beyond the cost of the tour, hence there will be zero employment opportunity for the informal sector.

But if Thailand wants to return to a mix of "feel good" tourists (also known as party animals, sex tourists, even backpackers) as well as a group or two (or a thousand) of Chinese, and garnished with the inevitable "family holidays in Thailand" brigade, the future looks a lot more uncertain. The poor Chinese will come back, for sure (rich ones go to the UK, France, Italy and the US), but "feel good" tourists will not easily forget the abuse they've suffered at the hands of most Thais over the past 5 or 10 years, and will look at the alternative destinations in the region. And the family holidays brigade, well, they never really took off in Thailand.

The picture doesn't look rosy any longer. There will be far more losers than winners, especially from the informal sector.

probably dont consider a helmet important for 20 kph trip to the end of the soi.

call me old-fashioned, or slow on the uptake of news, but has walking been banned as well under Covid-19 measures? My nearest 7-Eleven is 300 metres away, 600 metres for an all too-short round trip. In 6 years at this address I have never once gone to the shop by bike (I don't go shopping when it's pouring down). The g/f, on the other hand, has never ever walked. And her pathetic excuse - Why d'you buy the bike if you want to walk? Beyond words. She does have one or two good qualities; no, make that a one!
