  1. Please tell me if a person who has a(not someone who is on business in thailand) U.S. Military ID card could be used to gain a thai visa. Is there a way a person who has a U.S. Military ID card could use it for staus or political pull in gaining entry to Thailand??

My only gripe - the OP comes off as he deserves special treatment because he happens to be in the military. The same response would come from me regardless of what country they belong to.

Yep, I think the "political pull" comment was a poor choice of words--otherwise it would have sounded like a simple question from someone holding a military ID.

  2. [

there is no SOFA with Thailand :o

I know that one we HAD died in 1976. When all the airbases were shutting down in the post Vietnam drawdown, we were in negotiations to keep the installation I was at open. It was an intelligence collection facility down the road from Udorn RTAFB. But the sticking point was that the Thai government wanted legal jurisdiction over U.S. military members and that was a deal breaker.

  3. I will say however that as her boyfriend, and pressumably you are living together the most important thing you can do is to ALWAYS speak to her normally and correctly without reverting to "Thaiglish"

Great advice!! My wife had three good friends who all ended moving to the U.S. about the same time she did ('75-'76). We still visit one every summer and the other two we see occaisionaly or talk to on the phone. My wife's English is WAY better than theirs and I sure the big difference is I did as suggested above. To this day I still correct her grammar and she is still eager to learn.

  4. I know Medicare "A" is automatic, but "B" is an election. Are you saying you can elect part "B" three years ahead of time, when you file for age 62 SS benefits? I know a couple of folks who didn't elect part "B" and are now trying to back peddle in order to be eligible for Tricare for Life. Or maybe both 'A' and 'B' are automatic at age 65 -- unless you opt out of 'B?'

    Jim,

Have you checked on the usefullness of Tricare for Life while living in Thailand? My cursory check of the system led me to the conclusion that I would rather opt out of Part B and use that money to pay for another health policy. If you know more about this, I'd be curious to hear it.

  5. I had this problem. Check that you have JavaScript enabled.

    Yep, it's enabled.

BTW, I was at my son's house this afternoon. I installed Firefox 1.01 on his machine, went to TV, and it worked fine, including the "my assistant." :o

In that case, maybe a clean install of v1.0.1 will work on your PC, too. Try uninstalling, deleting the "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox" folder (if it's still there), and then re-installing.

But I think your problem is with one of your settings - either JavaScript advanced settings, or pop-up settings.

Thanks. I'll compare my settings against those on my son's laptop and go from there.

  6. The  "My Assistant" function doesn't work for me.  When I click it, it just opens up another window that duplicates the one I'm viewing.  I have the setting to allow popups from TV.  No biggie because the "view new posts" feature does work.

What browser are you using? What type of popup blocker?

Could you please try with another browser and let us know.

    Thanks!

I was using Opera and it worked fine. Thie problem is with Firefox. No external blocker--just what's built into the browser.

  7. Check out banlaesuan magazine (too bad they don't have an english version, I love this magazine), there is usually one business in there who advertises these. They look like a round stainless tank with a solar panel attached. We were quoted one here for 35,000 baht.

    Like this?

  8. I heard that Khao Yai has gained popularity among the Thais - may be the "new Hua Hin" for long weekends.

I've built a house that borders Khao Yai and my brother-in-law says that most of the houses in the development belong to Bangkok folks who come up for weekends. My original position was that I wanted to live in/near Chaing Mai but after reading the threads on their air quality problems, it looks like we made a good choice. I just hope Khao Yai doesn't get TOO popular! :o
