  1. Yes, forget Laos, one full page for their visa, then 1/2 a page for stamps: Thai out, Laos in, Laos out, Thai in.

For Cambodia you can get an eVisa online, saves a page, then just the Thai out & Cambodia in.

But, if you're only planning for one (1) month to get a new passport from the UK, keep hoping. More recent reports here on ThaiVisa have said 8-12 weeks!!

Better do a rethink on your travel plans.

Thanks Mac, yes i'm aware about the time shortage if you go to Cambodia but i'm prepared to pay the overstay fine (will be a lot cheaper than return flights to UK), i'm more concerned about if i can get into Malaysia/Cambodia with only 1 full blank page. thanks again

  2. hello i am just under 1 month away from leaving Thailand with one full blank page left on my passport, i have a choice between either going back to UK to get a new passport or go to Cambodia or Malaysia to do it there.

i would prefer to stay in Asia, going home would eat up a lot/or all of the funds i have but it would be the safest option as i'm getting conflicting reports/advice i.e. some countries not allowing people in with just one remaining blank page.

any advice esp. from experience would be appreciated.

  3. so i have a month left here on my visa, 1 full empty page left in my passport, i want to get to Cambodia to get the 12 month business visa and apply for a new passport there but i need 2 full empty pages (1 for the entry visa, another one for the extension after 1 month) so it's not looking good.. someone has suggested i go to the UK embassy in Bankgkok and get the emergency travel document then go to Cambodia to get my new passport

so what does having just one full empty page left means you can get the emergency travel document, and if-so would that allow me to get into Cmbdia on the business visa and apply for a passport??

it's either that or i try Malaysia, i'd prefer Cambodia though, or head back to UK which financially wouldn't be good.

any advice feedback would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance

  4. can anyone tell me where-else in S.E. Asia i can apply for a new UK passport???

i have a few pages left on mine, with only 1-2 pages left and a lot of border run stamps i don't fancy my chances leaving (in a month) and coming straight back in so i'm looking at other nearby countries..

i wanted to go to Cambodia and do it but the UK embassy in PP have just told me " our passport office is no longer here!"

am i right in assuming you can apply for UK passports in Malaysia, and????

All UK passport applications are processed in the UK. It does not matter where you are at you have to send to your application and supporting documents to there.

Yes all applications are processed in the UK, but you must apply from the country where you are currently residing.

Application procedures themselves vary significantly from country to country (some you apply on-line, some you apply through an agent).

The UK HMPO insists on your providing documentary proof of your name and residence address with a passport application, also the replacement passport must be returned to the country you are residing in.

Free 12 month upgrades are available for those whose passports are close to expiry and have more than three free pages and have not already applied to renew.

Current application to replacement receipt delays are predicted at from 8 to 10 weeks plus.

HMPO will cancel your passport for any travel, registered on on an international data base, within just a few days of your application.

So currently you need to apply to renew a British Passport overseas from a country that you will be legally residing in, without any international travel, for up to three months.

Thank you :) i had a feeling the girl at the Cambodian Embassy was wrong... i just put a similar thread up on a Cambodia forum and was quickly told "wrong! you can still get a new UK passport here!"

    thanks again

  6. i just called the UK Embassy in Bangkok Re. the 1 year extension

i was told i did not qualify as i have 5 years left on my passport

i said i only have 1 page left

the initial reply was : "running out of pages doesn't count/qualify for a 12 month extension", i responded with "it's on the internet/UK Gov website that it does qualify"

the reply: " you need to have at least 3 blank pages"

my response: "surely having only 1 blank page is more of an emergency?"

the operator kept telling me to call the UK helpline (i told her i can't get through calling that line), she checked with her line manager who gave the same reply.

now it looks like i'll have to call/wait for hours on the UK helpline

    advice needed please!

If you go back a few posts you will find the rules. You must have 3 empty pages.

Anyway an extension would not help you because it does not add any pages.

You need to get an appointment to apply for a new passport.

Edit: Also the most you can have left on your passport is 7 months. See: https://www.gov.uk/get-an-emergency-passport-extension-or-child-travel-document

ok thanks Joe, i only have 10 weeks left on my current visa but i guess i'll just have to apply/take a risk

  8. "No brainer - apply at the British Embassy to get the British Passport 12 month extension next week, the UK extension stamp doesn't take up a lot of space"

    Has anyone done this yet?

    how long does it take?

what do you need to submit? passport + ?

First appointments for the UK 12 month Passport Extension are not until tomorrow, Monday 23rd June - so no reports yet.

You need to phone the British Embassy to make an appointment and they will run you through the eligibility checks and the what to bring list.

Here is the UK 12 Month Extension Link:

    https://www.gov.uk/get-an-emergency-passport-extension-or-child-travel-document

    Required documents:

Take your passport, application form (and 1 other form of photo identification if you have it) to your appointment - parents can attend on behalf of children, and husbands and wives can attend on behalf of each other.

    thank you :)

  9. i'm now a week into my 2 month single entry, no plans to leave for a while, so with only 1 clear page ( + 2 pages with 1 and 2 stamps, the rest full). i was planning on applying for a new passport,, now after looking on this thread i'm having 2nd thoughts.. it sounds like this new "system" is having severe teething problems... going over to Laos/Cambodia means getting a whole stamped page before you get the Thai whole-page stamp.. the only thing i can think of now is now waiting till the end of this visa then go to Malaysia (not a whole page entry stamp) before either applying for a new passport there or just getting another Thai visa in Penang/KL...

any thoughts would be appreciated.. it just doesn't seem to be a good time to apply for a UK passport in Thailand
