  1. Food - cheaper across the board including farang food.

Beer - in a bar exceptionally cheaper, the one thing I hate about visiting Bangkok is the prices. In a Thai bar or restaurant you'll pay 60-70 baht for a big beer Chang. Even farang places are fairly reasonable.

Hotels - generally speaking cheaper but obviously depends on quality and there's a lot to choose from.

Transport - Chiang Mai not only has Grab but In-Driver and now Bolt.

Best area - depends on when you are coming and what you want to do. With lockdown 2.0 nearly here the touristy areas such as the old city and Nimman are dead. In normal times the old city and Chang Klan (east of the moat around the Night Bazaar) are the better areas if here as a tourist as you can walk everywhere and there's plenty of restaurants and bars + your central to everything else.

  2. If you do any work in Thailand the answer, legally is yes.

Anyone who says the law is grey or whatever has zero understanding of Thai law. You work here, legally you need a work permit.

That said, enforcement of the law varies, they generally don't care as long as your activities are offshore. If you're filming here the answer would be yes.

This interview with the Chiang Mai Labor Office gives some insight - when they refer to bloggers the same applies to YouTubers.

I use these guys for quite a lot of stuff. Really good pies. Not the cheapest but they are well made with real ingredients. I had a quick look at their FAQ and they deliver to Chiang Mai. 500B. So if the order is big enough probably not to bad.

Beef, Red Wine and Muchroom is my favourite. Their bacon is pretty decent as well if you like English back bacon. They also sell their products in Villa Market (Not sure if they have an outlet in Chiang Mai)

Not that all English-style pies are bad but clicking through to their website it was immediately clear that they sell English pies and not Australian pies.

Australian pies and sausage rolls use puff pastry pastry versus a different type used by the English.
