  1. You brought millions of dollars into Thailand and you're complaining about a meager 800,000 baht and health insurance fee? In America, you can get fined up to $100k USD if you don't have health insurance. It's illegal not to have health insurance in the USA so why shouldn't it be illegal in Thailand as well? What developed country doesn't require mandatory health insurance?

If you have millions of dollars, why on Earth do you not have an ELITE VISA which will cost you a measly 200,000 baht / year and zero hassles with immigration.

Embassy letter?? What embassy letter? I never had to get that.
Check in with immigration after traveling to another part of Thailand or leaving the country? What? I never do that.

Extortion at checkpoints??? What extortion are you talking about? I drive a Mercedes SL 55 AMG all over Thailand. Never once had any issues. Clearly I have money and showing off that I do with my car so you would definitely think the police would try to extort me? Nope. Never. I once got stopped by the police with 100,000 baht and a bag of coke in my wallet. Thai police officer laughed and waved me on. Thailand is the most lax country on Earth. So many perks to living in Thailand. I just don't get what everyone is complaining about. It's like I read Thai Visa and I don't live in the same country.

Something is not adding up here if you are a millionaire. Sounds like another 'bot' on TV paid for by the UK government to undermine Thailand for obvious reasons. Or you're just writing nonsense for the hell of it.

This is life on an Elite Visa:

"Yeah, elite visa is the way to go. It’s worth dropping $6k on if you travel a lot. I never have any problems going in or out of Thailand and my wait time at the airport is 10 minutes. Nice to get picked up and dropped off in long wheel base S class Mercedes or 8 Series BMW and fast tracked through check-in and immigration. No x-rays, no checks, no nothing. I could bring whatever I want onto a commercial airplane and it wouldn’t be an issue since I’m never checked. Pretty funny on on my way into Bangkok from the UK last week, one of their dolly birds was waiting for me on the tarmac with a golf buggy, just after my plane landed, and whisked me straight through immigration and into lounge, fully stocked with girls and alcohol. Hehe I don’t need to tell you what happened in the lounge [emoji846] All while I wait for my luggage to be retrieved ;-). If you’re interested in one of these visas, the elite company is just round the corner from me where I live in Sathorn and I just drop my passport in their if I need to do a 90 day report; (don't have to go to central immigration). And don't even have to drop my passport in for report if flying in / out of Thailand, and I do so frequently enough. I used to have a none immigrant B visa using my UK company and Thai company but that got a lot harder a couple of years ago and you had to get a work permit within 90 days so I ended up going for one of these elite visas."

Elite basic 20 year visa ,could very well be a cost effective way to go!
    50,000 baht a year.
They have advised me in writing, no health insurance required.
About 960 baht a week for 20 years.
I would advise to put serious money aside ,and self insure!
Because at 73 and we all at that age have some pre existing!
Wisely invest the money spent on insurance and also the cost of an average of about 600k tied up a year.
    You are streets ahead!

  2. Frankly, the ‘big picture’, over the long term, is asking the question, how long do I expect to live , and just how expensive is this insurance going to get ,when I get to 70 plus!
Then factor in pre existing conditions, with no cover for!

I feel worth a look at the Elite Visa, basic 20 yr visa.
No health insurance, this will be a financial killer, plus keep funds invested overseas.
There Is no need to keep an average of 600,000 baht locked in the local bank at next to no interest.

Not meaning to be smart, but I have ‘crunched the numbers for my situation’.
There would be about a net 3 million saving , including the 1 mill cost of Elite after 20 years.

This gives peace of mind and one can self fund your health needs.
Remember good managed funds can ,and are returning 5 to 20%, the effect of this with compounding interest is huge!

  3. I don't agree with many IO rules but isn't it fair to ask an older person to cover themselves....self insurance, I take it you have funds, well surely 20 or 30k for a yearly policy isn't much to ask....I'm with Immigration on this one.

20 to 30 K for an annual policy, what planet are you on,unless you are about 40!
This compulsory insurance is going to bite everyone one once they pass 70.
Cheapest is Pacific Cross at about 70 k.
I challenge anyone , get projected premiums up to 85 !

The only sensible and fair way is a 440k self insure bond!

  4. Twice rented hire cars on arrival at LHR.
Frankly a good idea to get a sleep before venturing out after a long flt.
What has worked for us ,is to get the Hopper bus to Sheridan or Holiday Inn as they both have car rental companies in their grounds.
We used Thrifty. Car rentals located at the Seraton, they were fine.
Used Green Motion from Holiday Inn, don’t recommend!
Just makes the whole deal stress free.
Booked by Agoda and Thrifty on line.
Generous discount if you book in advance.

  5. My story is nearly the same. I resisted the drugs and lived with BPH for several years. I recently had a cyctoscopy (great fun) and the inside of my bladder looks like it’s 150 years old. Thoroughly trebeculated and diverticulated. I’m now on a cocktail of Avodart, Tamsulosin and 5 mg cialis. Symptoms are improved but I’m probably just postponing eventual surgery. DO NOT wait for the symptoms to get intolerable. Damage is virtually irreversible.

Guys for those really troubled by BHP ,and don’t feel comfortable going down the Turp, or drug routine ,and the associated side effects.

    Google Supra pubic bag.
After radiation treatment for PCA I had a stricture in the urethra.

Well easy fix ,and not as daunting as it may sound.
They just put a catheter in the base of the bladder and the line goes to a leg bag. By passing the old fella!
    Cost about 50000 baht.
No side effects at all , no meds !
    Sorted!

  7. I am very sure this insurance issue, is really stressing people here!

Frankly there is no way anyone can stay here once over 70 plus, premiums through the roof, and most have pre existing conditions that are not covered anyway!

The obvious fair answer to benefit everyone, oh except the insurance companies is to just park 450,000 baht in a bonded account.

This will save people a fortune ,and provide cover for the Thai authorities.

I have to ask , is anyone actively promoting this idea, to the powers that be?

The other option is 20 year elite visa, I guess the worry there is if they make medical cover mandatory for that!

  8. I am sure this issue is stressing many ex pats.

Being 73 this year and having pre existing conditions, obviously insurance is going to be an insane cost.

Does anyone know if the powers that be ,will allow an ex pat to have the 440,000 baht in a bonded account, in place of having to use nominated insurance companies.

This would obviously be a get out of jail card for many of us.

Plus no issues with pre existing conditions.

Does anyone know if for instance, the ex pats club are putting this idea to the powers that be?

    Feedback appreciated.

    Cheers.

  9. I went into fairly extensive detail in post #66, so I'll try not to duplicate. But, I can only say that radiation vice surgery was the best decision I ever made. I had 119 radioactive seeds (brachytherapy), which apparently kept the prostate as the sole target, as I've had no evidence of radiation damage outside the prostate. Cyberknife wasn't yet available for me, but I think, because of it's superior targeting, that would be my decision today. But, in any event, radiation vs surgery turned out to be a no brainer (as I only could have done worse with surgery, since no evidence of cancer, and the latest PSA, 6 mos ago, .0004).

And, yes a few drips, but no pad yet needed (procedure was 13 years ago). And definitely no impotence, as I long as I take half a 100mg Viagra (and lasting power! Where were these puppies when I was a teenager!)

Anyway, whatever the procedure is you choose, just make sure the guy with his hand on the controls is not a rookie. OJT on your prostate could ruin your whole day -- and life.

Without doubt, catching PC in its infancy, then electing radiation treatment, will for sure give you the best chance of preserving potency!

Purely because of where the prostate is located, it is impossible to avoid nerve damage, when opting for surgical removal.
Even using the Da Vinci robotic procedure.

Brachytherapy can be an option if the cancer is low grade.

If high grade, HDR Brachytherapy is another option.
    Google is your friend here!

Cyberknife is by far the least invasive, with less side effects ,obviously If cancer is caught early.

  10. Sex is one of the big reasons I am here.
In my mid 60ś I boom just about every day.
Not bragging I know others same as me.
Sex with Thai girls certainly is nice I have been all over Asia and still rate them the best overall.
    Filipinos ain´t bad either.

If I became impotent or had the radical surgery not sure what I would do.
    Would be depressed for sure.
Maybe hook up with an older lady here don´t know.
Or head back home without my nuts.
Either way I guess now I try to take advantage of my ability to have lots of sex.
Never seems to get boring but having various girls certainly helps.

Guys the secret is, get PSA/digital checks at least every 12 months.
Now what is important, is not so much the level of PSA, ie 0 to say 5, but what is critical , is to look for a spike, sudden rise.
Ideally then have an MRI guided biopsy, if deemed necessary.
Now once a tumor, and gleeson score of the tumor is confirmed.
At this time , early intervention with Cyberknife radiotherapy ,can work wonders, and totally preserve bodily functions.

Once the tumor is outside the prostate capsule, then a different ball game!
You do not want to go there!

Yes I pushed my luck by trying every alternative fix available.
    To no avail.
This then ,to eradicate a growing aggressive tumor ,took a lot of radiation.

Hence the body was 100% functioning, but 4 years later, the radiation spill caused a stricture in the urethra, needing a superprubic bag fit.

Not a big deal, but catch things early and avoid this.
    It will not go away.

    Scary stuff indeed!

  11. Usually impotence.
To some people it isn't a side effect that would matter.

Guys I feel impotence is a factor to be considered ,as is incontinence ,that is often a side effect of surgery!

    My PSA 12.5 Gleeson 8 T1 tumor .

I elected to have Cyberknife at Beacon Hospital KL.
    Google is your friend here!

Now 7 years later, PSA 0.35 nil impotence!

  12. Yes, I've know guys with PSAs in the triple digits and sadly they all had PCa, often it had already spread.  It's not a good way to go.  The cancer often spreads into the bones of the pelvis and back, making the man bedridden and suffering from extreme pain.  Personally, I don't think it's something that should be ignored, but "watchful waiting", i.e. periodic testing to see if the PSA number is rising rapidly is a good way to go for someone in their 70s and beyond.

Being a prostate cancer survivor, I absolutely feel that one has to do way more to boost the immune system , and detox the body ,apart from watchful waiting!

Essential to get vitamin D levels checked, then up your levels with vit D and K2.
A lot of good info on U tube etc.
Diet is critical, cut sugar etc.

Google HCG test, helps of good info, people need to be pro active in strengthening the body!
This is not going away by itself!

  13.

Once it comes into effect, foreigners having 1-year non-immigrant visa will be required to have Thai Health insurance policies covering their entire stay in Thailand with minimum 40,000 THB for out-patient medical bill coverage and minimum 400,000 THB in-patient medical bill coverage.

For many, it will be feeding insurance companies.

It would be better if there was a choice between an insurance policy and self-insurance in the form of a deposit in a Thai Bank for example. Min. 500,000 THB.

The bank book with deposit could be shown to Immigration every 3 months when we confirm our address.

At least the money is still ours and does not belong to the insurance company.

Insurance premium for elderly people is more or less unplayable. I’m 79 years of age, I checked premium last year and I would have to pay about 20.000 THB per month for similar small coverage.

Well Misab, your post makes a lot of sense!

Frankly many of us came to retire here, maybe in denial ,that we would at some time need medical care!

The concern I feel is, getting insurance ,regarding the following.

    A at a sane cost,
B how to deal with cover for pre existing conditions!

So painful as it may seem , for those able to lodge 440,000.
Then this would be a sensible option, if allowed.

Being an ill wind, this should encourage people , to be aware of healthy eating, to avoid arthritis, cardiac and cancer issues.

Elections now delayed until later this year, so maybe this issue will be back in focus.

  14. The guy replaced an MT07 with a BMW 310????
    Jeez, some weird people about..................

    Read my lips people!

The MT 07 is a fantastic bike.
BUT for a 72 yr old shortarse, it was getting a challenge to move around, and be like a ballet dancer!
Fairly high weight and higher seat height, compared with 320R.

BMW 320R seat height 20 mm less, weight 24kgs lighter.

    I rest my case.
    Cheers.

  15. Good!
So except from this problem, which is hopefully something of the past, how do you like your new bike?

Ok I have had a serious variety of bikes, over the years.

Being vertically challenged has always been an issue!

    Also dealing with weight!

    I absolutely love this bike!
Comfortable, enough grunt for mountain roads around CNX for sure!

Handling is amazing, just loves corners, very planted.
Good brakes, plus not a bad pad for a Thai co pilot!

Previous bike was an MT07, this has on less grunt, but way more fun.

I would buy anouther 310R in a heartbeat!

The fit and finish of the bike is outstanding.

The only thing built to a price, is the non adjustable levers.

Now Barcelona have a red one, looks stunning!

    Cheers.

  16. Still nothing from BMW Motorrad Thailand? Maybe you got the wrong contact? Have you tried BMW Germany? Try sending a registered mail so they can't claim they never heard from you.
