According to some Thai tourist guides they are "barbarians"The Chinese are savages -
The caller number is usually displayed on your mobile phone
If the number is not displayed and it bothers you its not displayed then don't answer...or answer and just leave them talking to themselves...wasting money...eventually they give up. -
Caught individually with pole and line...shipped to Thailand, packaged, shipped to America then shipped back to Thailand....must cost a fortune ?
Not to mention not very "environmentally friendly" burning all that oil shipping it all over.

I can only really see it being maybe a problem if you plan on selling the vehicles...for every year tax and insurance purposes they never look at ID/passport.
-
On and in not the same....maybe better to spit than swallow ?

Gimme a beach girl any time - or even a coconut girl. Hell, make it a katoy or a motocy taxi, soi dog or anything but not those white abominations. Just sayin' since you're not offended.
I'd draw the line at soi dog...leave them for the "real dog lovers" [emoji33] -
I practically live there these days (say Hi!)
How will we know its you ? -
Your valid UK licence at a checkpoint should be ok...some jobsworth might want to see an International Drivers Permit...but as all that does is translate your UK licence into various not Thai languages its pretty redundant.
-
If you have a UK bike licence there is no need for a practical or theory test...just the medical certificate, eyesight and reaction tests maybe watch a video, digital photo, pay money go home with shiny new Thai bike licence.

Thanks for replying, John. Once back in CM will I be able to keep the Chonburi plates? That's the important bit. And I will be buying new in all probability, so would spend a few days in Pattaya.
If buying new it could take longer than a few days...because the dealership likes to drag its feet to do the registration..ask them to do it that day but if they won't then a way round this is to do the registration yourself or go to an "agent" to "urgently" get the paperwork done...
Once registered in your name yes you can keep the Chonburi plates, drive, tax and insure it anywhere in Thailand there only may be a problem if you need a new green book in a few years or want to change vehicle color, new engine ( things that involve changes to the registration details) they may send you back to Chonburi to do this !! ???? ...hopefully eventually maybe one day they will update this archaic system so all this can be done "online" instead of sending people to the other end of the country !!!
( the alternative is to just register/re-register in Chaingmai but you can't keep the Chonburi plates)

If you learn to drive a manual ( any vehicle type) then driving the "auto" version will be a piece of cake..though I did have to train myself to drive an auto car ☹️ with only one foot instead of 2, kept stamping on the brake pedal instead of the clutch.

Would I be able to buy a bike in Pattaya, ride it back to Chiang Mai and keep it on Chonburi plates?
To keep Chonburi plates you would need to do the green book name change at either Chonburi DLT or the Barnglamung/Pattaya DLT near regents school, once you have the residence certificate from Jomtien immigration it should be possible to do it in one day
(but maybe plan to have a few days holiday in Pattaya)...they will want to see the bike at the DLT to check chassis and engine numbers....then you can ride it all the way to Chaingmai...
quite a ride !!!!!

Why is there a photo of Chiang Mai Doi Suthep?
I think its the Big Buddha on Pattaya/Jomtien hill.

I'm suspicious that they just act as a mud/sand/grit and water trap and after a few years the metal under the wheel arches start to rust..maybe the thick goopy "underseal" paint would be better ??

Wot no photos !
