  1. I just love it when people try to justify prostitution.... :D

Now try to explain to the kids of expat families why their parents are splitting up because daddy couldn't keep it in his pant. Or even better, explain to their mothers why is she being punished with STDs for being a loyal and faithful wife, a good mother to her children.....

I've been "fortunate" enough to have grown up here in Bangkok, and these stories are all to familiar. I do believe that prostitution is a business, and like other businesses it's a matter of supply and demand. Point is, you can't make a living supply something that there's no demand for, can you?

I'm not a disgruntled teenager who has a lot to vent about, I've moved back here because of work but that doesn't mean I don't have anything to be disgruntled about. So the next person that tries to justify prositution to me, can get truely acquainted with my fist!  :o

you justified it yourself. As you rightly said, it is a business and the demand is there.

so go punch yourself, hard :D

  2. I heard something about not having the transportation infastructure set up to handle that many people. 38 to 45 million people and not enough taxi's busses, or tuk tuks to get them where they need to go in Bangkok or the proper sized roads to carry the traffic.

Has anyone one else heard that?

That was mentioned on The Nation news last evening.

oh dear, what a bunch of cynics!!!

It might be the case that, being an aviation HUB, that a lot of the passengers will not actually leave the airport, but will catch an ongoing flight. So Bkk has not a lot to worry about.

One day, there will be a train, not just buses and taxis :o

  3.   The apparent age difference between the two

The type of clothes that they were wearing

Of, course if they happen to be cuddling , then there is only one conclusion,

because even the most brazen Thai ladies of the night, will seldom cuddle in

            public places .

Once again, you are stereotyping, and your conclusion is wrong

I am married to an older farang, and we often cuddle in public...esp after a drink or two

but I am not, or ever have been, a bar girl. I have travelled and have fairly modern ideas, so maybe I am not a typical Thai, whatever that is.

Oh dear, maybe I am a naughty brazen girl :o

  4. 'Oh yarpy.... you give up on the challenges of life so easily it seems..... loser!!!!'

Yeah real sorry about that.  It must be my total inability to deal with a 'real' woman that makes me such a loser.

    BUT WAIT!

What are these Thai woman I have been dealing with if they are not 'real' women...

    They must be robots...

Do the Japanese know how advance the Thais are in electronics?  I could have sworn they were 'real'...

    :D Play nice...

I must be a stupid woman, but I really don't understand his point :o

  5. Funny, anyone who thinks they are better than someone else because of either their breeding or their financial status is just waiting for their pretencious bubble to burst. Unfortunately many do not.

Down to earth is the way to be, realistic and respect for any class, no matter how hoity toity you are.

Here is a little example of how Thais and many Asians in fact think. I was looking at some real estate to purchase, one man told me of a suitable premise and said he would take me to the owner. But he said, you had better not come dressed like that, I had on jeans, a nice shirt and sandals. He said, you had better wear something much classier and wear some gold, do you have a gold watch, chain and some rings you can wear. He said, it does not matter if you do not have one baht in your pocket, as long as you look like you do, then this man will talk to you.

I told him to stick his friend up his arse.

    :o

Class is just a desperate attempt to cover up our sad insecurities.

I think that JJ did not understand the situation at all!!

He was thinking that the owner would not talk to him if he was not all dolled up

the situation was that his friend was embarrassed to take him to see the owner, dressed as he was. ie his friend would "lose face" to be seen with him.

    oh well, never mind :D

  6. That is a nice set.. I think its Thai price would be a lot more painful..

I hear through dealer channels that we are likely to see some serious competition from the LCD panel makers n the next 12 - 18 month product cycles.. LCD's incresing in contrast and brightness.. Sizes up to the 40 inch range and prices a lot lower..

I would like a 36 inch or so flat panel set for the bedroom.. Needent be the most superb display in the world..

I saw a demo yesterday of a LCD versus a plasma display, both high end latest models

the LCD was worlds better, no contest :o

  7. Sorry, forgot to add, my husband just got his (he let the old one expire) and all they needed was his id card, all information was read off the strip on the back. We photocopied everything but they didn't want it, same with photos, they used their own machine.

    :D

Thank you for the information...... I tried going through the internet but nothing as to addresses that I could find (Probably my search croteria). :o

that's the trouble with search engines, you gotta spell correctly :D

  8. I have to say that I feel quite heartened by some of the responses to this posting…I may have grossly underestimated the amount of humanity in this forum…

And I would have to say that there are a whole lotta people here who think they are so much better than anyone else because they have "high minded ideals".

do you mean tht some have a more reasoned thought process or the ability to think about something without the need to resort to violence or emotional outrages?

You smell roses, I smell sh1t.

I guess it's all the nose of the beholder? :o

I suppose it depends on how high your nose is :D

  9. Anyone know what the Individuals without passports were fined??

Is this going to become another way for the Boys in Brown  :o to scam, oops, sorry, fine tourists who are endangering public safety by not carrying a passport....

strangely enough, it is the law that you should, as an alien, carry your pasport at all times

although it can be sufficient to have a copy, you may still get "fined"

  10. I remember last year sometime when Thaksin was "visiting" the South. This was during one of the calmer periods, yet he didn't even have the guts to stay there. He stayed in Had Yai.

Most of my Thai family is in Pattani, a real hot spot right now. It's hard to fathom the depth of the situation unless you've gone and stayed there. People who live in that area often have much different opinions than those on this forum as they see the situation for what it really is.

so what are those different opinions? how do they see the situation - educate us on the other side of the coin.

Most posters have information received second hand, from the media etc. Tell us more.

  11. maybe not in Thailand...but in other parts of the world where forensic science can prove way beyond reasonable doubt..DNA etc etc?

I am from the Uk...capital punishment was stopped a long time ago and will never be brought back, but referring to it as a means if indicating a suitable punishment is a good way to express feelings, even though you are aware such action will never take place.

well, they have DNA in Thailand too!! even if it is not used much.

If DNA is used as evidence, all it proves is the suspect was there etc, but is only part of evidence etc. It an still be incorrectly interpreted. For instance, it can prove sex took place, but not in what circumstances.

  12. I agree with you Wilko.

I leave these threads alone and let the linch mob rant away.

Nowadays the mods keep a watch out and thankfully close them down.

George even gives a warning in the original post sometimes but they still let loose with their suggested forms of punishment.

While I support freedom of expression within the forum (provided it does not intrude the the freedom of others), it does alarm me the number of people who immediately come out with all these lynch mob solutions: or are they just a very vocal minority ? If civilisation means anything, surely it means moving away from witch hunts, mob rule, and barbaric punishments ? An independant judiciary and appropriate (humane) forms of punishment, with freedom from torture, are goals to be striven for. Let us not fall back into the quagmires of "hanging, drawing and quartering" as soon as we are shocked by a heinous crime. We surely all feel angered by these crimes, but that is why we have set up the institutions of police and court to handle them for us - so that our anger does not destroy the justice we so much desire in our societies.

    well said!!

unfortunately, as soon as any society starts to break up, out come the revenge and kill mob. It must be a basic human trait. :o
