  1. As an addon can anyone please clarify the current policy on reporting a change of address using  Form TM.28 when visiting friends for a few days?  Do I ask the friends to bring me to the police station to drop of this form, should they match it up with form TM.30 discussed in this thread?

I have my TH home base at my wifes house in BKK. Do I need to submit TM.28 also after filling out the arrival card? Do I need to resubmit after staying a couple of weeks at a seaside resort?

    Thanks!

ETA. for the time being I stay on tourist visas in TH.

  2. Sakdipong Wimolpan was speeding down an elevated section in the Bangkok Noi district forbidden to two-wheeled vehicles when police said he plowed into the back of a disabled pickup truck which was flashing its hazard lights, according to Bangkok Post.

Usually they put a tree branch behind the disabled vehicle to warn others.. Wondering if they remembered to do so this time, otherwise that's a criminal neglect :>

I am fully with you for a greener Bangkok! Let's grow palm trees on the elevated expressways!

:( dang, no chance when the drivers will use the shrubs for an extra offroad lane in rush hours ;)

  3. Are the Thai officials that escorted the person in quarantine yet ?

Sharing a taxi with a possible Ebola infected person would be inviting death IMHO

One cough in an enclosed space ..

With this sort of shambolic response, it's only a matter of time before we have a full-on epidemic in Thailand.

And how are they going to respond ?

By some more amulets of course !

Only concerned with the official escort? How about the poor taxi driver?

ps. Ebola is not contagious until the symptoms like fever are showing. Even then the first days are not yet hazardous until a full onset with all nasty effects.

  4. "The NHRC sub-committee on civil and political rights chaired by Niran had summoned the investigators five times for an explanation on the allegation, he said."

Says a lot when those responsible for enforcing the law, themselves refuse to answer a summons.

Well, not really. It says that the police have no obligation to the National Human Rights Commission - mostly because the National Human Rights Commission has no enforcement powers or subpoena-type powers. The police are unlikely to answer a summons from you, either, or from me - and for exactly the same reason.

There is a very, very, VERY clear chain of command which the police must answer. If anyone in that chain of command demands their presence, such as, oh, for example, the only body currently enforcing the law at the moment, the police will respond or pay a price. Do you think that body might try to make the police accountable, given that the man in charge of enforcing the law carefully chose and appointed the chief of police?

Why would the man in absolute charge of all law enforcement give any power to the Human Rights Commission?

Because no Thai would do such a thing as torture a person to confess?

    Correct!

They had a Burmese unaccredited "translator" at hand for the dirty work, in addition to unverifiable translations.

  5. Another good example of Thai Super police adventure. They got the guys red handed, and allowed them go on bail to Cambodia, and now they are searching for culprits. What a mess....sad.png

Thailand should open FBI, Scotland Yard franchise here to investigate the cases.wai2.gif

Buying stuff at a night market is in itself not a crime, though the warez in this case were a tad unusual to be found there. No reason to keep the guys behind bars. If not, the US embassy may have had a word to say. The hospital only turned up with a delay.

  6. ROFLMAO Idiots for cops I would have held pending valid proof of purchase. Now these guys will get away with theft, transportation of body parts, without proper doc's Falsifying Shipping paperwork. And that just Federal level then you got Nevada laws to deal with No import permit. These guys are in Deep chit. But wave a few baht under a cops nose and wham bam your out of here.cheesy.gif Explain that one flat foot.whistling.gif

"Valid proof" for a assumed deal at a night market? 55555

And your reference to potential law and regulations broken in the USA is void as no stuff ever left the LOS.

  7. I've just come back from my language school and we have been informed that the immigration is now requiring all ED Visa holders to have a compulsory test in not only conversation but also reading and writing.

As usual there was little clarification as to when this will start or how long you would need to be attending. When I asked my teacher he said it "probably" only is for intermediate's and advanced but that the school will start the writing for all classes as of next lesson!

hmm - and those that are studying Muay Thay rather than English will get an immigration official as sparring partner in a public ring at Swampy???

    ;)

  8. Look at most military dictatorships and you'll see the last thing they want is for its citizens to openly criticize the regime plus of course allow people to peacefully demonstrate.

There's only one thing the UN should be doing and that's slapping on sanctions - but the UN doesn't have the resolve to engage in such until things really get out of hand ... at what level sanctions are deemed necessary is beyond me but certainly any restrictions on the movement of people through martial law.

Frankly it's a joke but so are the clowns running this failing economy.

UN sanctions will be on a diplomatic level. Like ignoring the application of a Thai delegate to a seat in a committee, or reassigning their seat when the term ends. Other hints will be by electing representants from Myanmar, Cambodia, Laos or Vietnam over a Thai to represent the region. While governments won't directly interfer in the inner happenings of another state, their long arm aka delegate in the UN assembly will indirectly voice the disgust.

  9. We are flying to Australia , and Thai came in the cheapest .For 2 of us we got a return ticket for 52000 baht. This was cheaper than Jet star and Qantas. With Jet star you have to think about all the extra's they put on .Qantas only flies to Sydney then you have to get a domestic flight to Melbourne

A very one off price, Do you or wifey work for Thai. I think you are one of two posters that are happy---fine stick with them.

Make that 3. Me and the missus just flew to Brisbane return. Bt56000 all up. Was the only direct flight available and was cheaper than all the other airlines. Plane half empty so plenty of room to stretch the legs. Good friendly service with reasonably good food and plenty of refreshments. Will stick with them.

HERE IS YOUR ANSWER having said all that-------plane half empty.??? if it was cheap and good service, why has it a problem filling the aircraft ???

Why problem with filling the plane? It must be the other side of the deficit coin: just not large enough passenger market on this route generally. The other carriers have made the correct commercial decision and don't fly this direct route anymore.

  10. Its fraud and she should be prosecuted , Otherwise this is a very morally sick country.

Having the quicker, better wit is not considered fraud anywhere. Though elsewhere nanny states have laws that protect those with lesser wit against the ruthless. Remember the US quote: a sucker is born every day? Or remember legalized stealing such as Enron that left many of their employees stranded.

  11. Thailand is going to lose what tourism they have left if they start demandig fingerprints from foreigners entering the country. I know in many countries it is a violation of rights to take fingerprints unless accused of a crime and many people will feel violated if it is demanded here.

Thailand better find a new source to get foreign dollars to be spent here

Except that in all countries giving out passports with biometric data the fingerprints of the digits are a standard component. Thailand couldn't care less about violation of rights elsewhere. Apart from this I believe fingerprinting at port of entry may be implemented very selectively.

As for the originating issue, one wonders where these guys are getting their yearly extension stamp. A blacklist at immigration ought to turn them up over time iff they are not on permanent overstay. Ask them to bring the marriage document in Thai with their foreign passport.

  12. The "Junta" should be loosening their controls as they move forward, not tightening them. The UN will look very badly on something like this. It certainly looks like "freedom of the press" and "freedom of speech" are still a long ways off. This is a very bad sign.

While the programming was not for tourist viewers, tourists will still take notice of such incidents in their planned destination. And TAT will TIT and announce anothervpraise of the country to compensate those westerners that may not like to make holiday in a totalitarian location. Remember Myanmar, tourist companies did not promote the country under the last military regime.

  13. Is this one of the additional duties of a monk?

I would have been proud even to shake the hand of this monk.

He has saved Thailand from falling into the abyss.

Unfortunately not many men like him around.

He is and always will be a Hero for me.

probably ok to "shake hands" even wearing the monks robe, but how about keeping spiritual and worldly duties well separated?
  14. Ok. Will drink only beer and wine. w00t.gif

A good idea, as sugary drinks have created an obese nation in the west and Thailand looks like they will follow suit. I do hope they make them more expensive than wine or beer.biggrin.png

"created an obese nation in the west"

    Just the one?

Definitely nanny state mentality if you think lack of personal control over what you eat & drink is to blame on the availability of things that are unhealthy to consume and should be controlled by "the authorities" through laws and taxes.

    Just say "No."

Hmmm - the socialist nanny state tries to enforce a thinhgy known as minimal salary for, among other reasons, you can just say No! to the junk food. But who goes for the crispy fresh salad and vegetable when junk food is artificially produced to cost so much less? And what do those do healthwise that cannot evenn dream of a minimum wage.

  15. If the excise department wants to raise more money for the state why don't they just tax the air that we breathe.

There is no point to these extra layers of taxes but it's just blantant theft from people. They already have a VAT tax.

The finer point to the scheme is that VAT is calculated upon the already taxed product. So VAT collects a windfall extra.

  16. Why would you have a bus terminal in the centre of the city when most people don't live in the centre of the city?

At least half the people would need to spend an hour or two getting IN to the bus terminal and then spend an hour or two getting OUT of the city.

All terminals will be at the wrong corner for some travellers.

IMHO those masses that chose to travel by bus are really in need for good connections to other forms of mass public transport. Travelin to some terminal out in the green by taxi is the worst solutiin for public transport.

And as another poster already mentioned, better not concentrate all traffic in a single unit. These are terminals by definition, not hubs to other parts of the country.

  17. This complicity must go right to the top! Outrageous really that a country can stick two fingers up to the international community & get away with it. [ib]Only sanctions from the UK, and a tourist blacklist will make these creatures take any notice[/b]

Better yet, all expats pick up spouses and kids and leave for greener pastures. A mass exodus from expats on extended stay would raise the signal, not only a dent in tourism by westerners.

Excellent idea, so when do you plan to leave then ?

    December 29.

    ps. too bad i can't include a dripping-of-sarcasm smiley ;)

  19. Princess Ubolratana salvages garbage collector from prison term

    /* snip */

Surat was arrested in 2008 on charge of putting on sales the pirated music CDs and videos he collected from household bins. Reselling of pirated CDs is an offence under the Film and Video Act 2008.

So reselling warez is an offence but distributing freshly minted stuff is just fine?

Or did the poor guy not know to pay the "license" to sell his cillection?

  20. Not surprising. Military dictatorship and turmoils do not attract tourists. And the price policy of Thai does the rest. For example: ZRH-BKK is cheaper with Swiss then with Thai (and a lot better).

Thai flights quote day in day out the whole year some crazy high rates, never adjusting to season etc., while Swiss sells their last seats at about a quarter of Thai prices.

Only like to fly Thai under a Swiss codeshare flight number, usually also significantly below Thai rates, when I know I will have some extra baggage (allowance 32kg rather than 23kg, multiple pieces rather than just one).

  21. Just as well they dont go! The PTP and UDD idea about democracy are only self centered and have nothing to do with real democracy.

The only problem is that once the martial law is ended they will return screaming injustice and that it was the Armies fault they didnt get to make any input.

Or, they will just find sneaky ways to amend whatever laws and rules to benefit themselves.

"The PTP and UDD idea about democracy are only selfcentered and have nothing to do with real democracy"

Have to agree, the idea of 1person/1vote is the most perverted idea the scamming reds have ever come up with!! Have even started to spread to Western countries!! Time to put a stop to the disease!!

I guess one needs to limit the number of votes or else the millionaires will run out of cash...
