  1. Not surprising. Military dictatorship and turmoils do not attract tourists. And the price policy of Thai does the rest. For example: ZRH-BKK is cheaper with Swiss then with Thai (and a lot better).

Thai flights quote day in day out the whole year some crazy high rates, never adjusting to season etc., while Swiss sells their last seats at about a quarter of Thai prices.

Only like to fly Thai under a Swiss codeshare flight number, usually also significantly below Thai rates, when I know I will have some extra baggage (allowance 32kg rather than 23kg, multiple pieces rather than just one).

  2. Just as well they dont go! The PTP and UDD idea about democracy are only self centered and have nothing to do with real democracy.

The only problem is that once the martial law is ended they will return screaming injustice and that it was the Armies fault they didnt get to make any input.

Or, they will just find sneaky ways to amend whatever laws and rules to benefit themselves.

"The PTP and UDD idea about democracy are only selfcentered and have nothing to do with real democracy"

Have to agree, the idea of 1person/1vote is the most perverted idea the scamming reds have ever come up with!! Have even started to spread to Western countries!! Time to put a stop to the disease!!

I guess one needs to limit the number of votes or else the millionaires will run out of cash...

Having a valid visa is not the same as doing visa exempt entries. There is no such thing as a tourist visa on arrival other than a 15 day VOA people from certain countries can get by paying 1000 baht.

Only multiple in/out visa runs for visa exempt entries has been restricted.

Thanks for clarifying, i get them always mjxed up ;)
  4. This is the story so far. After talking to a staff member at thai embassey london who was quite polite believe it or not i can get 0 visa for 1 year based on marriage to a thai though every 90 days have to leave the country i cannot go to immigration in thailand and report same as retirement visa £125 do not have to show any income which contradicts their website. Cheers

To note that this "leaving the country" can be the infamous supershort back-to-back visa run, otherwise frowned upon with tourist visa on arrival.

And like with the single entry non-O on marriage, in the last month you can decide to go for the yearly extension of stay with the mentioned financial backing, followed by the 90day reporting cycle, and no border hopping.

You can also extended each entry for 60 days at immigration, fee is 1,900 Bt and no financial proof is needed.
Thanks for the hint, I had only a 30day extension memorized!

Why even bother having visa approval people when visas are simply for sale? No other country I know of sells visas...you have to be approved based on a whole list of factors and is not just your willingness to pay 500,000. Only in Thailand.

Why buy a visa when you can directly go for citizenship? Like Malta that gives a person unlimited access to the EU and Schengen nations.

The tiny nation of Malta recently came under fire when it announced plans to allow wealthy foreigners to obtain a passport for a 650,000 euro investment with no residency requirement, which would have made it the cheapest European Union (EU) nation in which to purchase citizenship.

Same same some Carribean mini states.

In fact, my younger brother had a huge fine against him for overstaying his visa when my mother ran off with him to Thailand for 18 months whilst he was a toddler - something doesn't quite compute with me - so I doubt they were ever registered.

As just discussed in a different thread kids below the age of 15 cannot be fined. I believe this is now just a nice story within your family.

What likely happened was that the mother didn't care about the visa formalities for the toddler, and at the time got into trouble with immigration authorities.

Apart from this and that I deduct from your quote that the events happend some two decades ago, the toddler was listed in mothers passport. So Thai authorities will likely not have any separate register entry for him. Considering that at the time all paperwork was on stacks of real paper, they will have discarded most by now. I cannot believe even the most ardent bureaucrat will have spent any time to transfer such old historical matter into the fairly fresh computerized systems.

Tell your relatives to feel free to travel with their current time passports to Thailand.

  8. Just a speculation based on this thread:

    http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/767028-work-permit-and-working-for-more-than-one-school/?hl=%2Bsecond+%2Bwp

As your current employer is cooperating with you, seems a possibility to have two jobs at the time. Get settled into the new one before dropping the old one would seem to keep you in the country. Although I wouldn't know how salary, taxes and insurance would be handled by your current employer during the transition.

  9. As nobody has answered, for now this input: you have 7 days to jump ship after the WP is cancelled and the visa going with it. Your new employer should advance his side of the process so that you have the confirmation letter for the application for WP in your hands when you formally cancel your old contract. I still think you have to visit a consulate outside of TH to pick up a new visa locked to the new contract and WP.

I would guess that if you took a reporting form to most police stations they would not even know what it is.

    1. Would the police station get a copy of the TM28 / TM30 as sent to immigration or is this just showing up in person to shake hands?

    2. Please a refresher: is TM28 required in addition to reporting the residence address on the entry form of immigration?

    3. Another refresher please: when returning from a stay in a hotel outside of the home province, does immigration expect another salvo of TM28 & TM30?

    Question:

OP wanted to know about Tourist visa handling. Do you recommend taking reporting more serious when using a non-O marriage based visa?

I will be based at my wifes house, but at times without her presence while she has her job in farangland. TM30 I intend to bring to TH already signed by her, but who else could sign if we forget it?

I think reporting may be cautious for the sporadic times I may want to add a 30day extension to the 90day stay thru immigration. I have a years visa, multiple entry, as I need to be back home every so often. As long as my wife is working we cannot go for a yearly extension (though I would qualify for retired visa).

  11. Thailand DOES go buy the 180 day per year rule..

My last entry at Phuket airport this past week i was pulled aside due to numerous trips this year to Thailand all on visa exempt stamp yes I am a tourist,The count came to 120 under the limit but worth a count i guess..was amusing to see 3 officers adding up the days all coming up with a diferant total.....180 days seems to be the magic number to be or not be a tourist.....

Wrong, the "180 days" rule has been repealed 25/11/2008

    http://www.immigration.go.th/nov2004/doc/temporarystay/policy778-2551_en.pdf

Hmmm, would have been nice to see the previous wording. IIRC is may have spoken of a 90 days within 180 days limit on visa exempt entries.

Still looking for the proper Thai regulation on this issue, cause several consulates / embassies try to limit the number of followup visas of any kind, tourist as also non-O, to these magic numbers.

  12. If you don't have 12 months remaining on your passport validity when you apply for an extension it will only be valid to the date your passport expires.

In this scenario, does this mean that the base date for future yearly extensions will be moved to the day and month of presenting the new passport, or will immigration just add the extra months to make up the full year?
  13. What did the OP exactly do wrong? I don't understand it totally. Having to many 30 day visa excempt is a problem? I really didn't know that.

Today i applied for 3 tourist visa's of 2 months, i am getting this since 10 years in row, but today it was refused to me at the thai ambassy.

The problem was that i didn't bring bankaccountpapers (they don't mention that on their website) but then i got papers from the bank around the corner and then it still was refused.

They showed me my last used multiple visa and the stamps that i used to renew that multiple visa. I flew to singapore and was back 4 hours later to stay another 2 months and do it again.

Some months later i also had been in thailand for 30 days so that made 7 months in thailand for this year and that was the reason to refuse me the visa. I could only get 1 tourist visa of 2 months today.

So my question is: where can i find the official rules for visa? I mean the new rules where it says that i need to show my bankaccount to get a multiple visa??

The persons next to me at the embassy were not asked for their bankaccounts because they were clearly tourists. I even filled in my address of my wife's house. We are married for budha only.

So if i tell them i want to visit my wife then i am not welcome in thailadn (for 6 months) but if i say i am a tourist it is no problem. That's the lesson i learned today.

But i don't want to have problems like the OP by having to many single entry stamps in my passport. So i want to read the real visa law if i can find it somewhere.

There is internationally a generally accepted limit of 180 days stay per 12 months on tourist visas. This cutoff limit has to do with taxation, one gets taxed in the country of residence, e.g. the one where one stays longer than a half of a year. While Thai immigration was never bothered about this, see those long time stayers with back-to-back visas, several consulates in the west take this issue serious and will not grant visas infringing on this rule. Seems that until now consulates in neighbouring countries to Thailand neither checked. As for the encoding in Thai laws, I cannot help.

ETA: I just did see you mentioned your wife. You qualify for a non-O visa based on marriage. Get this in the form with a one year validity and multiple entries. Each entry gives you a 90 day stay before doing a border run. You can also get a one time 30 day extension locally on the current entry. This assumes of course a legally registered marriage, not only a Buddhist ceremony.

  14. Agreed. OP is not a tourist.

    Next!!

For sure there was a bottle of JW black on the IO's table last night and the Hong Thong was in the bin.

For 20K did he call you the limo service ?

Why didn't you get a non-O before leaving .. your not a tourist.

Who says that visiting relatives is not a tourist activity ???

OP did not mention if his sons are Thai nationals, if not they cannot be used as basis for a non-O visa application.

  15. ... and he took me to the immigration counter and stamped a 30 day visa in my passport, and said that next time I should be sure to get a visa, and if I had any trouble leaving the country I should ask for him! So my first day started with losing $651.47. Since he was the senior officer, there was nothing I could do about it. (But now, I have to worry about getting the 30 day extension!) So, it looks like the corruption in Thailand has not be helped by the army coup. So I am in Thailand and don't know if some other immigration office will give me the 30 day extension, or if I'll have to leave Thailand at the end of the 30 days. I am staying with my son in Chonburi and my other son in Roi Et.

Difficult to say if your entry was correctly registered in the computer, if done correctly then no other immigration officer will hamper you. You get the 30day extension at the local immigration office of the province, not at the border. And exiting ought not to be a problem if your departure card was correctly registered and your extension was granted. If your 30day extension is denied you have 7 days to leave the country. As for asking for this specific officer if having trouble, I doubt he gave you his name, and he is not on 24hour duty, nor do we know if his responsabilities cover nor only arrivals but also departures.

  16. I'm a bit surprised at how long it is taking the British police to get here. Why weren't they prepared to leave at a monemts notice just in case they were given the go-ahead?

Cause the British policce, which agency do you suggest, are not prepared to detach staff on a days notice, they need to select senior people with experience into Thainess, have to get replacement for their current assignments, get their visas, and least but not last, I believe the chosen staffer must agree on an overseas posting.

  17. Guessing the police were hoping they'd commit suicide in prison, or at least wished for a fast-track trial. Tough on them and I hope it all comes out and destroys careers and KT tourism (until it's thoroughly cleansed).

I see Mr Kent's name mentioned again. Why? And why is he still ambassador even?

I bet the British bobbies are relishing working with the Thai police. I hope they are familiar with this place as it'll be easy to run them around if not. They'd be better off being chaperoned by the army. RTP should take a backseat or, better still, get out of the car!

Stop believing that the embassy never does anything .

They have quite cleverly managed to get access for thr British police without annoying anyone in thailand. They have made their statements about the problems with the case quite firmly and diplomatically.

What would you like them to do? Send in thr SAS?

The British Embassy and/or Mark Kent are next to useless and have done very little other than mouthing a few platitudes.

The British Police were allowed to be involved only AFTER the Thai PM met Cameron, that had nothing to do with Mark Kent or the British Embassy.

Quite honestly, the UK Govt and Embassies need to stop pussyfooting around and being so diplomatic that they achieve next to nothing. A little more forcefulness would be good to see occasionally. A little more give and take instead of the current just taking things (mostly) lying down in fear of upsetting the "host" nation.

How about: the Thai counterparts ignored the requests of the British embassy, and then in Italy Mr Cameron rather than ignoring the paria, made the choice to meet him under pretext to push the issue?

  18. Its blatantly obvious that the Thais are spooked in regards to shoving Farang murders under the carpet rather than the usual - suicide shit we're used to. The recent Koh Tao heinous crimes have sent a strong message to Thailand - No more BS in respect of evaluating Farang Deaths !!!!!

Except that here a relative asked police to investigate the absence of the deceased, else nobody would have noticed,

  19. simply type "stop dog climbing fence" into google will give you your answer,my initial thought was curved over tops of the fencing seems I wasnt far off the mark smile.png

From doing as you said, it would seem that my dog's attempts at escapology are caused by separation anxiety. He appears to have classic symptoms. When I leave my home for as few as 5 or 10 minutes, upon my return he acts as if he has not seen me in years. He follows me around the house and is sitting beside me as I type. As soon as I look as though I am about to leave the house he comes over all morose and gives me a real hand dog look. He does not escape when I am at home, but if only my son is home, the dog will sometimes take a trip if you ignore him for more than 10 or 15 minutes.

The dog never used to be left alone, but now with my wife gone, there is no option but to leave the dog alone when my son and I are at work.

So now the next question how do I wean the dog off me, figuratively speaking. I have already spent too much upgrading my fencing (a waste of time and money) so other options are high on my list.

My father used to tell his dogs before leaving that he was doing so, showed them the rug where they should lie down on, and told them all over that they were good doggies (aka not punishing them by turning away). And when coming home giving them a hug and telling them how good they were, together with a small treat (one dog biscuit). After a few times they got the message and withdrew to their rug as soon as father put his shoes on.

Try this procedures with just going round the corner, then going shopping, for a few times.

The dogs did find the correct signals too as they were not told they would be going on a stroll nor their leash was readied.

    my 2 cents.

  20. ok, so I am thru this thread to its current end, and among all speculations I have missed this one:

If truly a farang, he may have a Thai spouse, living here with a non-O/marriage visa, and has a working permit to legally assist in the business of his wife.

    Case solved.

All legal under the scrutinity of Thai officials at CW as of the TVF membership.

  21. Yes they are. In their report they say there was evidence of bullet holes in the cockpit. Wonder how bullet holes make it 10 K up? Unless it was the Ukrainian fighter jets that were in the proximity....?whistling.gif

I believe that the term 'bullet' is a bad translation of the report, used in place of fragments. I understand that todays anti-aircraft missiles are not designed to hit their target and blow up, but to arrive in near vicinity and explode, and sending a hail of fragments ('bullets') out to hit and destroy the target from the outside, letting the travel forces start tearing the target apart at the damaged areas.
  22. And who owns the phone that sent the messages???

They can't know. In Thailand you don't need to give your name

when you buy a phone or a SIM card. Very easy.

True. But an investigator could track outgoing calls from the same sim card/number....unless it was discarded after the message was sent. Then some followup calls to the same numbers could narrow down who sent the threat. Possibly.

    True...

Not only that, if someone purchased a sim card just for that purpose and discarded it, I assume the phones unique IMEI number would have been logged, find out which other sim cards used the same phone.

OK if they are not registered, so next time the phones used put a tap on it soon find out who is behind it.

Sooooo many cheap throwaway or stolen phones...
