The BKK post says that 30,000 sacks of rice in the Buri Ram warehouse were due to be exported as they had been sold at auction but on inspection only 5,000 sacks met export criteria. Would think that would be the buyers criteria, IE The quality that was specified at auction.
Despite scrapping of the scheme, the NCPO has ordered the inspections at warehouses that participated in it across the country.
Not despite scrapping the scheme, this is only part of an audit of the whole scheme to see just how much rice has gone missing, what condition the remaining rice is in and where the money has gone and of course where any responsibility lies.
Remember we were told repeatedly by the PT Govt that they could not give any accurate accounting of the scheme until it had ended.
Well now it has ended and that accounting has begun and the sad story gets worse every day.
You also have to consider that major rice dealers across the globe will be reading all this info on a daily basis.
Do you think they will touch Thai rice after this unless it was super-cheap... Because now Thailand has (and is daily) being revealed as a major 'high risk' to buy rice from.
I pity the poor bastard who pays world price for high grade rice and ends up with a load of crap he can't shift.
This scam has wrecked the rice export industry.

Yet Yingluck just 2 days ago continues to cling to the hilarious opinion that all is (and always has been) well with the rice scam, and that all accusations of missing, bad quality and spoiled rice are pure figments of the national auditors' office imagination.
She took the salary of chairperson of the rice scam and did absolutely nothing but stood by and watched (or even helped) the scheme being pilfered from end to end.
Wonder how the farmers who waited over 6 months for their money feel about the amount of money gone missing? six times more than was owed a million of those farmers.
They were not paid because all the money was STOLEN!!!!!!!!!

When I said the rape and murder [last Sunday] was the first in the SRT, I was not aware of such a crime once before," he added.
Actually, it has happened 3 times before (well, rapes anyway), and the whole of Thailand knows the other two times by the same monster that killed this poor girl... Well everyone in Thailand apart from YOU that is.
You state that your resignation would be like running away from the problems.... Don't flatter yourself, you resignation would open the way for someone capable of doing the job, not just sitting by sipping wine and collecting your fat salary and pension.
This monster sailed through the screening process via widespread nepotism... you even admitted the huge problem stating most problems come from 'favourite kids' who feel exempt from disciplinary action because they are 'connected' as you stated to the Bangkok Post... So you were well aware there were problems.
Sir.... you are about as popular and welcome as Garry Glitter at a kid's birthday party.
You can't even protect 2 of your own staff from this monster, they can't even feel comfortable to report his rapes to your organisation because they know he is looked favourable on thanks to the nepotism YOU allow to happen with your full knowledge of its existence.
GO.... if you have anything resembling a shred of integrity.... Cling on, and you may well be pushed and then you WILL struggle to get a job elsewhere.
IN THE UK YOU WOULD BE IN COURT FOR CORPORATE MANSLAUGHTER FOR YOUR WILFUL NEGLECT.

Seems to me that almost every industry organisation, commission or association etc are reporting the same old, same old...
First half year slump, expected recovery in the second half of the year.
So nice to see such a universal optimism.... pity it's mostly BS though.

This could be a bit ropey for her, but I guess she has come close to beating the statute of limitations seeing as she wasn't yet sentenced. I could be wrong but I believe it is 20 years for drug smuggling, so she has 2 years to avoid extradition.
However, to me, heroin is a big no no, and 4kg is no joke and she deserves to be punished for her crimes.

He shouldn't be expected to resign..... he should be sacked on the spot with no pension.
Clinging to his job is just going to increase the already enraged atmosphere on social media and it won't be long before that rage is directed towards the Junta for sitting idly by.
He must have connections in the military is all I can say.

People also seem to forget that before the West invaded Afghanistan the Taliban were the rulers of that country. As far as I can remember they never threatened another sovereign state they simply refused Americas demand to hand over a suspect
The Taliban allowed al Queda to run camps to train terrorists in Afghanistan and they harbored them after 9/11. We should have skipped the "nation building" part, but they pretty much deserved what they got.
The Taliban didn't even exist until the CIA arrived there and funded its birth to radicalise moderate Afghans to fight the Russians.
The CIA's main mission was to open up Taliban schools (Taliban = Scholar) to bastardise and misinterpret the quoran into its new deadly form to manipulate the minds of people who would then take up arms in the name of Allah and Muhammed. As usual, the US foreign policy is to blame for what has now morphed into something uncontrollable and the entire world is now in danger.
I am not American bashing... I have no problem with American citizens. But the US government are stupid, stupid and very dangerous people indeed.
You indeed reap what you sow.

First, lets point out that you are not in their shoes and you did not just lose your daughter to a violent assault so who are you to judge their actions.Kaem's relatives tried to hit Wanchai when he showed up for a press conference at the Pran Buri Police Station yesterday.
Is that all?
There wouldn't be enough police in the station to stop me from ending this monster.
Not hard to grab a gun off a policeman's belt and put six into him.
A missed opportunity...
And how exactly would your suggestion benefit the other two daughters and mother who need a caregiver and a strong man to help them in their grief? Hard to make a living in prison for murder.
Huh.... I have 3 young children... two of them daughters, and I can safely say that if I were in that police station and the that killed my 13 year old walked in, I would not be standing calmly by thinking about being a shoulder of strength for my family... No way would I be able to hold myself back, and I don't think I would be in prison for too long under the circumstances.... do you???
Besides, I think my family and everyone who knew me would applaud that rather than denounce it.
If you have young daughters you would understand, as I understand what there father must be going through.
You don't have to walk in another man's shoes to know what they must be going through and what they would want to do to this monster.
And there is a huge difference between "want" to do and do.
I applaud the father's self-control and his focusing on the greater good.
What the hell are you talking about 'I applaud the father's self control'..... How do you know he didn't try to get hold of him to wring his scrawny little neck????
The report says relatives tried to attack him.
Chances are the father (if there) would have tried to kill him. How do you know he didn't?.... were you there??? Or you just talking crap to hide behind?????
He wouldn't go to prison if he killed this monster, he would get charged and bailed which many people would be happy to pay for him, and likely walk free from court on the grounds of temporary insanity on a suspended sentence.
In my opinion, if he didn't.... then he is no real man.
A real man would be out to avenge his daughter's murder.
Let's hope he uses some of this compensation to pay someone in prison to put this prick in the temple fire.

I suspect they will also sue for their legal expenses which wouldn't really make this a free offer of help.
They may have also tried to use a different wording as a replacement for 'remedy the situation'.... how can you ever remedy THIS situation.

The heads of the municipality need to have their assets seized, as this was clearly abuse of their positions.
Trading for 3 years on public land?
Wonder how much rent they paid and to who?
Last but not least, I wonder how much tax was paid by these 500 businesses? I will guess it is not a single baht.
Good riddance.

Well I would hardly consider Tesco to be a bastion of ethics after seeing more than a few documentaries in the UK on some of the dreadful practices it has got up to in the past as well as using unethical suppliers. Not to mention the way they hoodwink and defraud its customers across a huge range of products including knowingly labelling meat as British when it comes from central European suppliers.
They have been caught out so many times it's untrue, which is why I boycott them both in the UK and here.

Utter nonsense to 'ban alcohol' on these trains ! ! In fact, I don't drink, but I fail to see the connection between paxes "drinking" and an employee raping/killing a pax.
There's only one (1) factor important here, and that the screening-process (or the lack thereof) by the SRT.
The one thing I don;t understand is this: How did this "animal" gain such unhindered access to this poor 13 year old kid, who was traveling with THREE (3) companions, one of which was her older sister ? ? ? ? ? What I specifically mean is: WHERE WERE THESE 3 PEOPLE WHEN THIS LITTLE GIRL WAS RAPED & KILLED ? ? ? ? ?
I find this truly amazing.
They were asleep.... it was the middle of the night and on a sleeper express where passengers usually sleep.
More on topic though.
Banning alcohol on trains is no different to banning petrol and diesel to stop road deaths, or banning cigarette lighters to stop lung cancer.
Pathetic response and nowhere near the root of the cause of this monstrous crime.
The two major failing here are both from the SRT...
1... they let a maniac with drug previous through their non existent screening.
2. They are covering up their inefficiency by wrong blaming alcohol that is consumed by passengers on what their employee was allowed to do.
'If I resign will it help???'..... Actually you are clearly fighting calls to resign which makes you look worse.... So it would be advisable. Indirectly, your ineptitude at your position led to this poor girl's untimely and horrific end.

Thaskin can return after statute of limitations expires around six years , anyway, Thaskin also resides in either HK or mainland China, he left Dubai long ago , there is a danger that he's return will cause complete anarchy , not because what the idiot will say or do, but what other idiots will do and there lies the danger , Thailand is up the creek without a paddle, if this stupid man decides to return and lets face it, six years these days isn't a long time, unless you are my age, you could be dead , just like big "T" could end up, not a good option.
The statute of limitations only applies to cases that were not heard... meaning if they can't get the offender to answer charges within 10 years the charges are scrubbed.
Thaksin was already charged and convicted and the statute of limitations no longer is valid..... he MUST serve his time.
He also has outstanding charges, and technically these can be heard in absentia. It is down to the criminal court to go ahead with them and one word from the right person can make that happen.

Yawn..... What a stupid OP full of silly suppositions with no real basis.
Thaksin will not be back, and I doubt he would want to. He can never get rid of his conviction and prison sentence, and the future cases awaiting him with probably bigger prison sentences.
He will not be wanting to look over his shoulder for the rest of his life, There are plenty who want him dead... that's no secret.
He also has the possibility of seeing his baby sister clapped in irons in the near future which would be a disgrace upon him (hopefully).
If he comes forward and backs another political party, then all this work will have been in vain, it would spark massive unrest and probably lead the mobs back out to fight in the streets. Making sure future elections are marred to destruction.
The Thaksin era is over.
Measures will be put in place to make sure of that.
On the rice thefts... I don't think it is old news..... it promises to put some pretty high ranking people away for a long time, and that could include Yingluck.... the rice inspections are in fact very fresh and entertaining news.

So for you lot who thought you could just sit and bide your time then act up again when the interim government takes over, you have another thing coming.
They should just make an announcement.
'Nobody past or present ever aligned with Thaksin, or any Shinawatra or and PTP member or minister can be involved in politics in Thailand..... ever!'
Too much damage done, and far too risky to allow him a way back into Thai politics.
It only takes one person willing to become a proxy for Thaksin and he has a route back.. Then all the crap will start over again.

It's bone dry up here in Korat. Hardly any rain at all and the dams here are running pretty low... lowest I have ever seen actually.

The death penalty solves nothing.
But further restrictions on alcohol would make a massive difference throughout society.
I get sick of the people here who praise 'beer' and moan when the bars are closed.
Too much alcohol. Too much violence (especially domestic) ......
You are obviously a non drinker, which you will likely deny to attempt debase my comment, but I bet everyone is thinking like me here.
By putting the focus on alcohol, what you are doing is actually handing this guy what appears to be in your view, a reason for what he did... a defence almost. Just so you can chime in with a cheap pop at those who like to have a relaxing beer.
I have news for you. although I have witnessed drunken violence in my time, considering the amount of times I have been out drinking, it has been VERY few and far between. Maybe one bar fight every few years.
I have never been in the company of anyone who has displayed violence EVER! I don't hang out with thugs so that is probably the reason, but I have heard and even seen the same person getting into drunken mischief outside our drinking company, and this was because that guy was an out and out thug regardless of alcohol.
Violence is more attributed to the person, not the drink... The drink is the catalyst in that person.
Remove alcohol and you will still see problems and violence in society. Look at the middle east, hardly anyone drinks, and it is probably the most violent place on earth.
So I totally reject your opinion... Drink is not the reason, so stop trying to point to being drunk as a defence.
The death penalty solves nothing???? Well it would certainly solve the possibility of this poor girl's relatives have to endure the news that her killer has been pardoned and is walking as a free man by the time he is in his 30s, and trust me... that is not so much as a possibility in Thailand it is a probability.

Not sure I agree with the use of the term 'drug and alcohol fuelled crime'...
The capability and intent is already inside the person. Nothing else to be added.
This is his third time offence while on his duty.
Nothing to do with drugs and alcohol.... everything to do with the fact he is a complete evil monster which the world can do without.... put the needle in his arm and do everyone a favour by sending out the message that this is what happens when you touch our children.
