Yes Jon, Top Deck put on the GP and the F1 every season. Top Deck restaurant and bar, 56 Chai Talay. Two storey building on the waterfront about 600 metres south of the fishing pier.

Long term expat here just tried to pay at the 7 next to him, they refused without a chipped ID
-
Had the same with water bill and TOT bill at Tesco. Flatly refused pink ID, Thai DL and passport copy. Just kept saying must have chipped ID card. Asked how I can get one as I have lived here over 20 years, the usual mai ru. Government directive came in on the 16th.

Spent a very pleasant night in the Bintabaht area last night. Usually visit about once a month, last night was the best I have seen it since last New Years. Lots of new and decent girls, cold beers and good happy hours. Some bars were actually full by 8pm, very unusual.

Two hospitals, one on the airforce base that we can use for day to day illnesses, they do not do surgeries. Main government hospital is excellent, 50 baht for a consultation. For inpatient treatment they have the normal public wards, private rooms and vip rooms. All the specialists come from private hospitals on specific days for consults and surgery. Anything major and you are transported to a bigger hospital in Hua Hin, bit over an hour away. I have had a few surgeries in the Prachuap hospital including orthopedic, could not fault the service and the price was probably 10% of what you pay in a private hospital. Only downside is that sometimes you have a 2 hour wait due to volume of people.

$1000 in fees to transfer $40,000? I transfer $10,000 regularly for living expenses, the ANZ charges me $27 for that, so four times as much shouldn't be more than $100 max. So where do you get $1000?
I got an email from ANZ months ago telling me that amounts 10k and over were fee free transfers.

We tend to joke about it being our own little secret. Have noticed over the last five years or so, more people are staying rather than passing through. I have seen most of Thailand over the last 20 years and this is the cleanest and friendliest town I have lived. Thankfully poohy lives out of town a bit

You need to get a letter from Bangkok Bank to show all international funds transferred into your Bangkok Bank account. I was informed they get it from the main office and it takes 5 days to get it. Not sure of the cost (if any). I am going in next week to request my letter for my appointment at immigration on the 20th of June.
Ordered mine yesterday, was told one week and it will be at the branch, cost 200 baht up front.
-
Got mine 11 or 12 years ago, took my passport, wife and village headman. Was there over an hour but most of that was them chatting and an occasional question to me. When I moved province I got a letter from them and presented it to my follow on province and was issued with a new book and pink ID card, all in one hour and 60 baht.
-
If you are over 60, the card is for life. Move to a new province, need a new yellow book and a new pink ID. Have done it twice and apart from getting a letter from the leaving province, easily done.

Im DFRDB, thanks anyway
They will not transfer direct to a Thai bank. I have DFRDB and DVA, only DVA will transfer here, in Thai baht only, monthly.

They do not require a photo taken in the bedroom, at least most don't (though if you live in a 1 room place it may be unavoidable). A Thai-Cambodian couple who were at the time living in my property went through this last year and the only photos were taken entirely outside the house
My last 5 renewals on marriage visa in two different provinces required photos on the bed, us pointing at our clothes in the wardrobe and sitting at the dinner table with food in front of us. The photo at the front of the house had to show us + house number + roof and ground level in the same shot.

Sorry to be pedantic, but the phrase is 'Spanner in the WORKS'' as in John Lennon's 2nd book, "A Spaniard in the Works''. Cheers.
I do not need to quote others, but thanks anyway Wang.

Here is another spanner in the inconsistent immi office wheels. Two friends went to Chumpon immigration, one had the 400k for his marriage extension as per many years prior. They looked at his bank book and bank letter and said because there had been no activity, he had to pay 20k to get his extension. The other chap showed his 800k in the bank as per previous years, IO said can not do now, must show 65k per month.

Made the appointment over the phone, they do not take your old passport. Go to your local immi, pay 500 baht and transfer everything over. Takes up the first two pages of the new passport and about an hour of your time.

Thanks Joe. I believe I can only do my passport renewal in Bangkok. Do you know much about the process for Australia...ie apply from here (Khon Kaen) and pick up later in Bkk etc or is it a do it all in a day thing at the embassy?
Did mine recently, you have to make an appointment with the embassy, they only open from 8.30 to 12. Download and fill in the application, attach the exact photo's they ask for on their site. Arrive before your appointment time, take a ticket and wait. Submit, pay their exorbitant fee, if you want to come back and pick up the new one make another appointment. If you want them to send it ems, they will cut a piece out of your old one so you can not use it, the new one will come in about two weeks.

Had a similar problem a few months ago, got very piffed about it. Turns out it was BKK banks fault, they had been extra slow sending the transfer. Bahtsold can not upload the ad until they receive the funds. The boss sent me a very apologist email explaining the situation and I believe he was genuine.
