Just use an International Licence, I'm from England, we have had CBT and restrictions in place for years, I've been riding and driving in Thailand for 16 years with an International, never had a problem (and riden high power bikes since I was tall enough to touch the ground when stationary) it's really just a translation of your native licence.  I don't ever intend getting a Thai licence.......

Then if you have been driving for more than three months, on each separate occasion you visit, you have been driving/riding illegally and without insurance, hotshot.  But I guess you think that is clever?

Makes sense. I don't know of many other countries that prosecute solely on the breath alcohol test. Most require a blood test to confirm exceeding the legal intoxication limits or otherwise. In most sensible nations, any refusal to provide a blood sample is an automatic prosecution for DUI/DWI with additional penalties.

Which just goes to show how little you know.  They have been using a Lion Intoximeter, or whatever it's called, in the UK for the last 30 years or so. Not a blood test, a breath test at the station.

So if I do not read into this at all, then everyone who gets or got a 30 day extension regardless of when, will have that 30 days start on November 1st and end on the 31st.  This is either now a drop dead date for those visas to expire and folks to obtain a 1 year extension of stay or leave Thailand.  It will cause more overcrowding on the 31st of November if they do not roll over again. Or maybe this just become a new rolling 30 day period, Again speculation on my part.

The 31st of November?  No such date.  But that aside, yes. All currently granted visa extensions or extensions granted between now and 31st October, a month that does have 31 days, will commence from 1st November.

    An interesting last point.

Does that mean that anyone arrested for murder based on a warrant to be tried in a US state which has the death penalty would not succeed?

I don't know about Thailand, but in the UK they will extradite to a country with a death penalty for the offence, ONLY if they receive written and legally binding agreement that the death penalty will not be applied. However, as the death penalty is not relevant in this particular case, I don't see what the issue is.

sums up the overall state of thai immigration; should have sorted out this mess and publicized it long ago; o, sorry , i forgot, that requires intelligence

Stupid comment.  Everyone has known for months that the cut off day is 26th September.  So, unless they are living on the moon, in which case they don't need a Thai visa, then anyone who requires a visa extension to stay in Thailand, should have organised it by now.

“The move follows Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) Governor Yuthasak Supasorn revealing that he believes the launch of the so-called “Phuket model” scheduled for next month as part of efforts to revive the local economy, is likely to be pushed back.”

Push it back as long as you wish, I would guess very few are queuing up for to the Phuket Prison Package.

I understand where you are coming from, but actually, I know of a number of people, long term residents who are stuck overseas, who have expressed considerable interest.  It is, after all, a way to get HOME.

Hard not to adopt a very selfish attitude to this..........and enjoy the moment whilst it lasts.

Currently living in and loving Bangkok......half the bars and restaurants are closed, the half that are open are offering extended happy hours, deals and discounted prices. Streets are 'empty', pavements walkable....what is not to like......I seem quite popular in every bar I walk into!!

Sorry for the Thais though....tough, very tough time.

Offering extended happy hours? They'll be hit with a 50000 baht fine soon then and that'll close them down.  If the government can't get you one way, they find another.

Won't be worth coming...by then everything in every tourist town will be closed

You may well have hit the nail on the head.  I am seeing it in Hua Hin now.  I always said that as soon as they allow the bars and restaurants to reopen, they would struggle.  They now have to pay full rent again, plus staff wages etc. etc. But there are no customers, particularly in the areas such as Bintabaht, which are frequented more by tourists than locals. Watch this space for many cheap bars and restaurants on the market.  Many are already starting to realise the dire situation they are in and cutting their losses.  But every cloud has a silver lining and those that do survive will have less competition.

It will if only stupid farang grow some balls upon arriving at an immigration office. No receipt. No pay. What's the officer gonna do?

They tried to charge me 4-500 Baht (no receipt) to transfer my old passport stamps to my new one. I refused to pay. Did I get kicked out. No.

Did I get my stamps transferred? Yes no problem. No charge.

That's interesting, because I was charged the same 500 baht for the same service, but they gave me a receipt, which led me to believe that it was lawful.  Oh well.

VISA AMNESTY EXTENSION UNLIKELY, IMMIGRATION SPOX SAYS

    https://www.khaosodenglish.com/news/crimecourtscalamity/2020/07/10/visa-amnesty-extension-unlikely-immigration-spox-says/

Don't you love this paragraph in that article

“There most likely will not be an extension. It’s all quiet on that front. It’s been a long time and we need to clear out people,” Phakkaphong said. “Thailand and the Thai government are already generous. No other country has this long of a visa amnesty.”

    Clear out people, very diplomatic.
