The town I live in is 50 km east of Korat. When in the Amber zone our local Hotel offered alcoholic beverages thought out.

When we where upgraded to Yellow last week all other establishments followed suit.

I am sure they did.  The point being made though is that what they are doing is illegal.  Personally I don't care, I think the rules are ridiculous, but we were discussing legality and the current regulations forbid this.

I live in Phuket you are right Restaurants are allowed to serve alcohol only when you order food the bars are still closed but it seems a few of them have installed kitchens

Well that is no surprise, but legally they will also need a restaurant licence and to get that, I believe you have to have your kitchen inspected and certified as acceptable . However, I am sure a brown envelope of two in the right hands will sort out that minor issue.

Apparently, Phuket restaurants serve alcohol. Bars are closed.

I believe Phuket restaurants are allowed to serve alcohol, as of last week, but in the rest of Thailand, regardless of what zone the province is in, alcohol cannot be served in any establishments........officially.

they shouldnt do it because its not their business

individuals outside their country must surely organize their own healthcare... or return home

France are the only nation doing this ......at home -based French taxpayer expense no doubt.......

perhaps they are offloading those millions of perfectly good unused AZ vaccines , before expiration, a stockpile that Macron created, stupidly & jealously saying AZ was no good........

Not the only nation, the Chinese have already done it.  But you have a point.

  5. I am a dual citizen of the UK and Australia.  I have also made enquiries with regards to getting married and been informed that yes, I do have to use the passport on which I entered Thailand, and in which I have my visa, that being my Australian one.  It is necessary to have that verified by the Australian Embassy, then translated into Thai and together with other paperwork, including proof that you are able to get married, i.e. evidence of divorce, if you were previously married, certified by your embassy and also translated, then you present this to the relevant department in Bangkok.

It is of no relevance to the Australian or UK authorities which passport I use, but from the point of view of transferring a pension, which is my concern, it is important that the marriage is registered correctly at the local ampur, in the area in which you live.

I do not have to hand all the minutiae, but there are a number of useful and informative websites and some very helpful information on the Australian Embassy website which was of assistance to me, so there may be the same on either or both of the US and German Embassy websites.

This is one such website that I found useful and discusses the issues in layman's terms.

Oh. seems to be conflicting reports here now. Let's just wait until 7.55 tonight. I may even watch it on Thai anyway.

Did anyone have the 'pleasure' of listening to Robbie Savage yesterday on the Wales game?

My answer to the original post was given after watching the first match of the tournament, on which there was no English commentary. Subsequently, there has been a bilingual option with English as a choice and I am very grateful for that.

Why pay outrageous prices that true charge get a vpn for $5 per month and  live streaming watched the Wales game last night on BBC iPlayer

Because True happens to show many other programmes that I also want to watch.  My money, so I guess I can waste it as I want.  Also, cable is much more reliable than streaming. I know, because I stream many programmes every day and even though I have very fast internet, a VPN and use IPTV, I still prefer to watch via cable if the option is there.

    Why ?

I guess this has come up because many Thais, certainly a number of whom I know, have been in and out a number of times visiting 'relatives' and/or 'boyfriends' and had free quarantine when they return.  The government may well consider this taking the p1ss, which, of course, it is, so they are going to clamp down on it.  Fair enough to get it free on your first return, but multiple returns?  No, make the boyfriend pay.

To be fair, it gives all the bitter, low-skilled members here, struggling to remain in Thailand on state pensions, a chance to express how superior they are compared to these young people who have embraced the Internet, have developed enough skills to be able to be their own bosses, are traveling the world instead of being stuck in an office, and are living a life that the begrudgers could only dream of.

Is that the best you can do?  Pathetic.  There are many of us living here who have had successful careers and live on good pensions.  However, we have subsequently embraced the internet and are fully aware of the opportunities it offers and have taken advantage of same.  That said, I wish the new generation of 'digital nomads' all the very best and hope, without much faith, that this latest initiative from the Thai government helps them, regardless of the convoluted way it is has been presented.

Really ? Every bar I’ve ever drunk in I can go into tomorrow. May be behind a shutter for some but many many bars are blatantly open - where do you live ?

Golf courses are empty - sheer bliss !

    Covid has a silver lining

Really? Maybe that's something you shouldn't be spouting off about.  We all know of bars where we can get a drink, illegally, but there can be consequences to that and to imply that 'EVERY bar you've ever drunk in' you can get a drink in now, is fantasy.    Maybe you meant every bar you ever GOT drunk in?  Although that would probably be quite a lot, so most likely fantasy as well.   Good luck, don't get caught. 555
