Mandatory health insurance just doesn't work for those with preconditions, those of an older age, those already with good health care in their home countries, and those with enough wealth to self insure.

For me, I fit in 3 of those 4 categories, but luckily have an 'O' visa, avoiding this requirement. Many of my friends have 'O-A' visas, and fall into this trap.

3 million baht cover is also excessive. For that money, they could bring you back from the dead

I think that depends upon which rip-off hospital you go to..

  2. I’m afraid I do not believe the vaccination figures. I know for a fact that there are many, many, people who live in Hua Hin who are registered in their home towns and villages and have had difficulties registering for vaccines here. The figures could possibly apply to persons registered as living in Hua Hin, although I’m sceptical, but if you include the others that would reduce the percentage considerably. In truth, I don’t believe the figures regardless.

Is she by any chance the daughter of a politician?

Better spend that money on buying food for your own people.

Maybe you should take the trouble to look her up before posting?  She is the stepdaughter of a world renowned, Thai based, Swiss chef.  He has brought her up since childhood, after her Thai father did what many of them do and abandoned the family.  You obviously don't have teenage or younger kids yourself, otherwise you would certainly know who she was and her family history.  I do and I'm an aging hippy who likes rock music.  Good on her, she's actually very talented, speaks 4 languages fluently, (how many do you speak?) and gives a lot of pleasure to the younger generation.  The money is small change for the pleasure she will bring to the many beleaguered kids in this country.

He must be hopeful of attracting wine drinkers in the desperate clamber for cash ????

Only if they drink at home.  Alcohol sales in restaurants and the opening of other entertainment venues that serve alcohol, is still 'under consideration for 1st December'!  I very much doubt it will happen, given the latest comments from Anutin and the marked increase in cases in the last few days.

That's put the nail in the coffin for bar owners then, looks like it will be a dry Chrimbo and NY.

And a stay at home job.

Might as well cancel my Pattaya hotel.

I'm hoping not, surely pubs, bars and karaoke are classed as entertainment venues?  If not, yes that may be the final nail in the coffin.

I quote from the full transcript of his latest deluded utterances

"By 1st December, we will also consider allowing the consumption of alcoholic beverages in restaurants as well as the operation of entertainment venues under appropriate health precautions to support the revitalization of the tourism and leisure sectors, especially as we approach the new year period".

Of course, it does only say 'CONSIDER'.  So, consider, and say no, probably.

If you’ve ever had dinner with friends, drank wine... You were at a ‘drug party’.

If you’ve very smoked a cigarette at a party... you were at a ‘drug party’.

If you’ve ever been to a bar or club and had beers, or put a bottle on the table... you were at a ‘drug party’.

The only difference is your understanding of what drugs are, the governments understanding of what drugs are and control of said drugs and what society deems acceptable which is primarily based on media sources.

I never have, but in many countries it's very common for people take methamphetamines, cocaine, ecstasy (MDMA) recreationally at the weekend and go to work on a Monday morning.

This may perhaps be a controversial opinion for many more puritanical and rigid of mind, but the only issue with drugs such as this is the lack of education which surrounds them and the risks of consuming something which has been pushed into the underworld due to criminalisation.

Government and society still has a lot to learn about recreational drugs - the puritanical approach clearly doesn’t work, it just gives a few boring nerds a chance to throw critique while forgetting 60 years ago our folks were probably high on LSD and doped up...

    I concur, absolutely.

    What does reopen mean?

Yes, precisely.  Almost certainly no pubs or bars, maybe alcohol allowed in restaurants, which actually makes a mockery of not allowing the pubs and bars to open.  But this is Thailand and this puritanical government seems dead set on completely crushing the pub and bar industry, thereby causing even more suffering to many of the population, who are already poor beyond belief.

During a pandemic it's not unreasonable at all to restrict social gatherings. Why are people getting so twisted up about not being able to go out and drink ... do it at home for goodness sake?*!?#@?

When drinking alcohol our capacity to control our behaviours are impaired e.g. not remembering or if we do not caring about distancing, talking loudly (therefore dispersing moisture droplets from our mouths as we do so), and as we move towards further impairment even more unsafe behaviours as far as a virus sharing is concerned.

As to the bans on drinking out of pandemic times, these restrictions are rather Calvanist in imposed piety, but when in Rome as they say.

For me unless I am using a taxi or a designated driver, drinking when out is simply not on as I have to drive or ride and that I do not do ever do after drinking (even one drink). For my own safety and that of others.

If you are one who takes advantage of the lack of policing and enforcement in LOS by going out, drinking and driving riding, then I implore you to stop doing that.

I drank and drove a great deal as a young man in Australia before the 'breathalyser' came into being, and I was incredibly irresponsible - a lot! I thankfully never hit, injured, maimed, or killed anyone (although I did hit stationary objects a few times).

    Safe sober driving friends ☺️????

I think you missed my point.  The fact is that regardless of the ban, alcohol is still being served, often behind closed doors, thereby defeating the object of the ban and potentially making the situation worse.
