I have visited, but never lived on Samui.

I have lived in Phuket (Rawai-Nai Han), Ao Nang (Ban Chongplee), Hua Hin. Plus Phang Nga (Khao Lak), Chiang Mai, and Udon. You can find a place in any of them for 12k baht/month. The difference is what you get for your 12k .

My best bang for the buck was Nai Han: town centre, 3 BR, 2 Ba, kitchen, garden, furnished.

Udon was the cheapest: 1 BR, 1 Ba flat,  good kitchen.

I am renting downtown HH: 2BR, 2 Ba, good kitchen, garden and I am just over your price limit. My number one criterion is a decent working kitchen.

I found Ao Nang to be the most expensive and least desirable place that I have lived since being here.

On my street in central Hua Hin a truck comes by every couple of months with no warning and fogs the area with a noxious chemical. Dead beetles indicate that it is an insecticide. Can anyone tell me what it is exactly they are spraying? And is there a schedule that tells residents when this will happen so they can leave? Thanks.

I think you can expect fighting to begin in the late afternoon of the 12th as it gets hotter. I have observed a lot of people doing their shopping this AM in preparation for being house-bound. Some have gone to the wat. I think it is  safe to say  that on the 13th things will commence early and continue thru the weekend.

AUA Chiang Mai

Khao Takiab is quiet, year-round, but especially in the low season. But there is a frequent songthaew  year-round that you can take to town for 10 baht, so transport is not a show-stopper. And bicycles are a good option in HH for short trips.

Huh? I live in town centre and bike to the airport via Phetkasem every day and never saw them. I will look harder today.

I have never seen a Yellow Bus in HH and I looked for their office, purportedly across from BKK Hospital, but found no office. Have you seen/taken this bus?
