  1. When I was young I was hit by teachers but for good reasons, but nowadays its different. The lack of handing in homework can be dealt with detention or suspension not with physical violence. The teachers & some adults tend to forget that kids are small human beings & learn more from encouragement, than threats or violence. I think a lot of Thais have been brought up with the idea that violence against kids is fine. Old saying "you attract more flies with honey than with shit". Works in the real world with any situation.

  2. Whether on the roads or in the water or just trying to enjoy a drink at a bar, life in Thailand has become extremely dangerous for any foreigner. If your not a target by a Thai who wants your money (we farang all rich) you will be a target for the van, boat, taxi, tuk tuk driver or the bouncer who thinks he can show you the Thai way of hospitality. I lived in Chiang Mai for a bit over 2 years (where I chose to retire) & have now moved back to Australia to get away from the constant need to be wary of anything you may do to upset a Thai. Not a good life. Some like it me? No. Good luck if you still live there.

  3. Does anyone know why so many ladyboys seem to be thieves? I hear countless stories about people getting beat up by ladyboys, getting robbed, etc. Is it such a desperate lifestyle, that they have to resort to this kind of behavior? Or does the media hate them to the point that they have it in for them? What is the reality? Not that it matters much to me. Just curious.

Most of the ladyboys will not be employed by normal businesses, so unless they make money from the sex industry, they steal to survive.

  4. Do you mean we caused the defeat or that the Thai way of life defeated a normal human being. Moving to a country, 3rd world country, is difficult & sometimes people look at things through rose coloured glasses. I just moved back to Australia with my family, not defeated by Thailand, but seeking another opportunity in life which I cannot accomplish in Thailand. Moving countries is a huge embargo & it takes time to adjust. Takes time to get a feeling for the country & if you don't like what you see then you move on.

  5. Its all a ploy to add credit to the RTP. They said they would use them as drug mules & then they found one full of drugs in Chiang Mai. BTW should the dolls not be put through screening at the airport. It may be that they would get injured when they go through the Xray machine. Could be used by terrorists for more sinister things on planes if they don't screen them properly. Time to stop flying in Thailand. Oh that's right I already have.

  6. Most property is sold new or among family and by personal recommendations. Keep a sign outside and let neighbors know.

Sale of used property by agents is mostly fly by night - there just is not a market seen to support a professional operation. It is a two way street and up to now agents do not serve either buyer or seller better than the old look around for signs and ask locals approach in the minds of most.

Thanks for your sound advice. I'll give it a go.

This will help as I can reduce the price as no exorbitant agent fees. 5% in Pattaya, Ouch!

If you put out your sign & advise neighbours then someone may recommend a person buy your house. As Thais see it they get the commission then. Happened to me when a shop owner gave someone our phone number. We did not pay as they didn't actually do anything as the new owners approached us directly & not through the shop owner. 3% commission is standard.
