  1. OP you will have no problem using that crossing if you have a valid Tourist Visa, I went myself in October and had no issues, it's only if you don't have a visa they will not let you cross

Ok thanks, that road and entire place seems so desolate, is there much on the other side? I love Laos though and I am familiar with it so I probably will end up just going there anyway, thanks for the help everyone

  2. If you have not used the 2nd entry of your tourist visa you can do a border hop to use the 2nd entry as long as you do it on or before the enter before date on your visa.

If you have not transferred you stamps yet you would show both passport on departure from the country. Then both again on entry to show the visa in your old passport and they will stamp you into the country in your new passport.

You will only need your passport and a copy of the photo page to get a single entry visa. Plus the application form.

Ok thanks a lot; I have just looked at my tourist visa was a multiple entry visa with 2 possible entries issued on the 19th of October. I had until the 19th of December but made an extension which has given me up until the 18th of January. So I assume then I have one more entry left on this visa meaning I do not need to bother with immigration this time around luckily? I can hop over to wherever is closest and hop back, no need to photocopy any passport pages or anything of that nature forms etc?

Check the enter before date on you visa and make sure you do the border hop on or before that date.

No need for anything other than your passport to use the 2nd entry.

If you are still in Hua Hin the nearest crossing is in Kanchantaburi at Ban Phu Nam Ron.

I went to Kanchantaburi before I had this tourist visa and they insisted that I needed a visa to enter Myanmar! This was back in October.. So I probably won't be trusting that entry point because the Laos borders seem to be a lot more easy going.

  4. I need to head back to Ssavannakhet soon and it has slipped my mind on the exact documents I need for a tourist visa. I am currently on a double entry so I have one entry left on that visa I think, I am pretty confused as I recently obtained a new passport and so I also have to take both with me? I cannot seem to find the form either that I will need to fill out for the visa, if if I even need a visa as I have another 30 days? Joe please help lol, I think you remember me posting up my passport and you had to take it down due to there being private info on there..

  5. I removed the pic of your visa since it had personal info on it.

You have an extension valid until 18 January.

They just did an annotation of your visa info. You will have to use both passports when you enter the country to use your visa.

Personal info, missed that so thanks. I have no idea why he was mentioning 60 days even though I can speak Thai, he was in a rush it seemed. So I will need to show both passports when re-entering then, hmm I wonder if they will allow another tourist visa entering into Laos

Your name is on the bottom of the visa sticker,

I think you have an entry left on you tourist visa that you will show in your old passport on entry. Perhaps that is what the officer was telling you.

You will have no problem entering Laos with your new passport since it will have no other visas in it.,

Oh I still have an entry left on my visa... I did not know that hmm. I have been to Los 3 times and was just wondering if they will let me back altering seeing my old passport full with my 3 and a half years of ED stamps and tourist visas.

But even if one entry left on my tourist visa I have to leave by the 18th of Jan and then I may have another 30 days still I guess that is what he was saying?

  7. I have been here for a fair few years, late 20s and was on an ED (went to class obviously) but have been on a tourist visa recently. I also had to change my passport recently.

Today I went to the immigration to transfer my visa to my new passport plus get a 30 day extension. I got the extension and it was transferred but the immigration guy was in a rush and said something about 60 days.. Something about showing my visa in my old passport. I am not sure if he means I have 60 days instead of 30, or if I leave in 30 days and then I have to wait 30 days until I come back or what. Totally confused. I have attached 2 pics, one of the old passport with the visa and the new with the stamps. Please help because I do not wish to overstay

  8. If you were not doing the extension you could show both passport when leaving the country.

You will need a copy of the photo page of your old passport visa and the entry stamp you got from it and TM6 departure card Dependent upon the office you to they may want more copies than that. And your new passport photo page just for the transfer. After they do the transfer you will need additional copies of your new passport.

wow that is a major headache! I might just leave and go to Laos for a few days instead, it seems simpler!

  9. If you go to immigration to apply for the 30 day extension thy they will do an annotation with info about your visa, transfer your entry stamp and do the extension in the new passport.

Take extra copies of your old passport and a copy of the photo page of the new one with you. They will give you a form to complete. They will also want the letter from the embassy.

Thanks Joe, I was kind of waiting on you to be honest lol. So I need to photocopy my entire old passport and also the photo page of the new one?

  10. Visas are never transferred.

If you have a tourist visa there is nothing to transfer.

Just present both passports to immigration when you leave.

Then why have I been given a form from the Bangkok office to fill out and hand over to immigration to transfer over my visa, or is it just a form?

And what about the other questions in my post, can anybody shed some light on that please?

  11. I was on an ED visa and attending classes for a couple of years, and can speak Thai between 'getting by' and fluently which helps a great deal. Anyway now I am on a tourist visa. I have 2 questions if some people can help me with them?

    1. I recently got a new passport and they gave e the form to transfer my current visa over to it from my old passport, I haven't filled it out yet and need to do that and take it to the immigration. Shall I do this on the day of my extension which is in a week or should I do it before?

    2. What forms need to be filled out and how do you go abut getting a 30 day extension as I have never had to do this before?

    Cheers

  12. ...

... the DN ... are not investors but rather mercenaries. The little they spend here is not benefitting the country enough to offset the negative aspects, such as harboring fugitives, or dishonest people who are happy to break laws which do not suit them.

Money is not a good indication of character, especially in this part of the world which seems to attract the most corrupt! Many of the well healed players in this place (especially Russian) are throwing dirty money around. Look how easy it is to get in - no real security checks and now some want to make it easier to get a long term stay? Pensioners and married men are less likely to be problematic hence the visa provisions.

The biggest travesty by far is that married men are unable to work. That is just plain ignorant. And before you jump in and say you can, I mean the stupid "list of professions restricted to Thai nationals" so no, you can't.

"Fugitives" (harbored by whom?) would be caught when doing 90-day reports, crossing the border, or obtaining extensions of permission to stay. Neither they, nor "dishonest people," play by the rules. The "dirty money" types you speak of, would certainly buy an Elite visa, and have the least scrutiny of all. And there is no "age limit" or "marriage test" as it relates to "character" or corruption.

Many DNs do very difficult work for good money. I can only suggest those who view them as some sort of parasite / freeloaders study a good college-text on "Data Structures and Algorithms." They could live here and contribute far more than the average pensioner, with their income.

Mercenary? Versus what? Why not work on contract, given the "9-5" version of selling ones time for money (aka "Work, in a market-based economy") yields an ever-diminishing standard-of-living in Western nations. It was the private-corporations who threw out long-term careers, the pension-system, good-wages, and even hiring citizens of the nations where they operate - all for "efficiency." (Your country may vary - but give it a few years) DNs are the result of this, not the cause, and are only paid for actual results - not just "showing up on time." This type of work also offers the ability to climb out of poverty for millions in India and elsehwere.

As to the issue of working here: You can, if you have the degrees and skills - IT is not on the forbidden list.

    Degree Qualified Nomad ? cheesy.gif

    Never met one !

  13. Hmm, wow Thailand is really screwing over the younger people who are expats herr aren't they. Do they not understand that they can bring money into their economy from home, why all the red tape and bs.No other country in SE Asia makes things this problematic I swear

Some SEA countries do, some don't. Laos is 30+30 days (the 2nd double-price), and need a "fixer" for a business visa to go beyond this. Not sure about back-to-back re-entries there. Malaysia gives me 90 days on entry (USA passport), and can extend and/or do a border-run for another 90, but after that, questioning starts, and entries may be denied.

By contrast, Cambodia is easy - pay up to a year at a time for ME and never have to leave. What I know of Vietnam is 3-mo (showing $3000 in funds for acceptance) + 3-mo extensions in-country - not sure if there is a limit on the extensions, or further proof of funds on those. Myanmar - no idea.

Seems like some good options to "stay" in Cambodia and just visit Thailand. Tourist visa with a 30 day extension is an easy 90 days. Then head back to Cambodia. This avoids having to do 90 day reporting in Thailand. Return to Thailand maybe after a one month hang in Cambodia just in case single entry tourist visas back to back become a problem.

Sounds like a good idea actually, so basically get a tourist visa (have one now anyway) and get the 30 day extension. After that head to Cambodia for one month and then hop back to LOS? Could I not do the same thing but with Laos as I prefer it there and what are the chances the immigration will keep offering me tourist visas to Thailand after every month of stay in Laos or Cambodia? I do not like touristy locations such as Phuket and heck no Patttaya, so just wondering what places in Cambodia are like.

  14. I personally would like to see a visa for under 50s who can show proof of income outside of Thailand i.e. these digital nomads that the elders seem to hate, because honestly there are many of them and they of the most part cause no harm to this place. They work and source clients outside of the country and bring money in; it could be web design, graphic design and so forth. Why has this visa never been processed or even considered by the people at the top..

If such a visa was produced the DN would not want it as they "wish to be free" of government and officialdom !

However, I would be interesting if a minimum provable income of say 80,000 Bht / month was demand as a requirement for a "DN visa" . Would the take up be overwhelming ?

I would estimate that this would be of no problem for many DN, but I have thought on the subject and it would most likely be difficult for Thailand to enforce the taxes and everything else that come with it.. So they are better off just letting things be the way they are now I guess..

  15. It really isnt just all about money .

Countries just dont allow foreigners to turn up and live there forever .

Thailand has never encouraged immigration into Thailand .

You have no entitlement to go and live in any Country that you want to .

Ok I get that and respect that actually, but maybe I have something to offer and a visa is not available for me to offer that ...

  16. Well so what you are saying us Thailand does not want younger people living here, bringing income to the economy and not stealing Thai jobs.. Taxes can be sorted I'm sure

You can answer to your own question by looking at the existing visas/extensions that are currently available.

ok that's fine, and then that means Thailand is either looking the other way and letting the cashflow ensue, or they have no real care for trying to allow people who are not one foot in the grave to stay here long term, for some reason. Even though we can bring money and do bring money, a lot. They are shooting themselves in the foot, but as I first stated they may know all of this and just turn blind eye to it for the most part because of course it goes on, digital nomads work here and can make a substantial living - but I have NO idea why some farang on TV totally despise or hate these types of people. What is wrong with making living and exploring the world whilst young at the same time, no hurting anybody in the process either. Bitter old bints

You are the one coming across bitter with your ageism and assumptions. I doubt anyone has a problem with digital nomads if they are legal. Do you honestly believe that this minority group are of any significance to the Thai economy.

Authorities definitely have turned a blind eye to this group. Probably because it has been way down on the priority list, but as time goes on I believe immigration and the labour department will either legalise it with a specific visa or add it to the exclusion list.

See an unbiased and middle way'd voice of reason, I really do not understand why so many people hate on digital nomads on here. Maybe the older folk are jealous deep down as they did not have the tech back then to have a skill or trade where they could earn good monty from where they wake up in the morning,

Either way something needs to be done visa wise for this group of people, but this is LOS and anything can happen and also EVERYTHING can be said and nothing done

  17. Returning to Blighty every six months is ideal. You keep your right to free NHS treatment and you can see late spring, summer, and some autumn. Under current new rules if you are non resident for over three months you lose your your right to free NHS treatment.

Yeah and I herd u will loose your tax free allowance soon, can you post a link where u herd about that please

Back home I had never voted because I never agreed totally with what any of the parties represented, but the conservatives have really screwed a lot of people over this term and especially this law about leaving the country for x amount of months and not being able to have the benefit of the NHS, I can see why but that was set up for it's citizens, wherever we live, we are still their citizens at the end of the day. What a prick he is
Are you paying income tax in the UK or national insurance contributions while you're living in Thailand? If not, what makes you think you should be entitled to free medical treatment on the NHS?

I noticed you were complaining about the fact you would have to go back to the UK twice a year to apply for the METV too. What makes you think you're entitled to apply for a tourist visa when you're clearly not a tourist? It's the sense of entitlement that so many wasters in Britain have that is ruining the country.

'waster' hahaha.. I have worked as in manual labour since I was age 12 and like 10 hour days. I have moved and left everything I had every known and loved at age 20 and never look back, made a life for myself and have hurt hobody in the process. But yeah carry on with your slinging bs my friend, you're joker.

Do you mean like the new METV?

I assume that if they want digital nomads here they will introduce a visa specifically for that group.

I think the situation is simple. If there isn't a visa/extension for someone to stay long term it's because Thailand doesn't want that someone to stay long term.

From what I understand, Thailand doesnt want people here who reside in Thailand and run their business on line . They class that as working here .

Which technically, they are correct .

If you are web designing etc in Thailand, you are working in Thailand .

And you will need a work visa for that

  20. The door is starting to close on this topic. I have not seen an on topic post about the METV for several posts. Posts that are not on topic will be removed.

Well then lets get back on topic because it is does concern / intrigue me. It is also just the natural evolution of conversing, to tail form this to that and so forth.

Anyway we ALL need official word that is not hearsay or something not set in stone, we need to know

    >how much it will cost

    >how many border runs we must make

    >where do we need to apply for it

    >what are the requirements

    >and can we re-enter Thailand an unlimited amount of times.

It's all so shady and they intend to release this new visa in 10 days ... pffft
