  1. Well so what you are saying us Thailand does not want younger people living here, bringing income to the economy and not stealing Thai jobs.. Taxes can be sorted I'm sure

You can answer to your own question by looking at the existing visas/extensions that are currently available.

ok that's fine, and then that means Thailand is either looking the other way and letting the cashflow ensue, or they have no real care for trying to allow people who are not one foot in the grave to stay here long term, for some reason. Even though we can bring money and do bring money, a lot. They are shooting themselves in the foot, but as I first stated they may know all of this and just turn blind eye to it for the most part because of course it goes on, digital nomads work here and can make a substantial living - but I have NO idea why some farang on TV totally despise or hate these types of people. What is wrong with making living and exploring the world whilst young at the same time, no hurting anybody in the process either. Bitter old bints

  2. I personally would like to see a visa for under 50s who can show proof of income outside of Thailand i.e. these digital nomads that the elders seem to hate, because honestly there are many of them and they of the most part cause no harm to this place. They work and source clients outside of the country and bring money in; it could be web design, graphic design and so forth. Why has this visa never been processed or even considered by the people at the top..

Do you mean like the new METV?

I assume that if they want digital nomads here they will introduce a visa specifically for that group.

I think the situation is simple. If there isn't a visa/extension for someone to stay long term it's because Thailand doesn't want that someone to stay long term.

From what I understand, Thailand doesnt want people here who reside in Thailand and run their business on line . They class that as working here .

Which technically, they are correct .

If you are web designing etc in Thailand, you are working in Thailand .

And you will need a work visa for that

  3. your money all in thailand.... and you are 27...

I assume you receive salary in THB .. not GBP or USD.

the first step should be trying to learn something about money management (buy and read a book). meanwhile, save some money.

Since baht is going low, you may deposit your money to USD or GBP. I don‘t know whether you can open an foreign currency account in your bank

if your deposit is over 500k baht, you may want to transfer some back to UK..

As the OP I am still confused on what to do. I guess there is no full proof 100% safe option when it comes to storing life savings, and I do not intend to go back to my home country, I haven't once since I left in 2010

the answer is probably spread your money / investments around that way you are reducing the risk. All in one source is rarely a good idea.

That's a great point yeah, that saying that has been posted up in here already 'don't put all your eggs in one basket'

So I may sound naive or whatever here, but I have never been good with money. I am not some spoiled brat it's just I never really gave much importance to it. I am 27 now and thinking of my future. What kind of investments would you and others suggest to spread around my saving? Multiple currencies? Gold, stock market... I have an inkling water is going to be a like oil in a many decades from now. but hey that is not realistic here laugh.png

okok and thank, any book titles to suggest? The USD looks like it could turn sour soon thought ... I am a young gun yea but want to save wisely you know

  4. Thanks for the info Monk.

We are searching for the right place to get it done. At least it isn't an urgent issue and we have time to look.

Yes shop around if you have the time, great idea. Look at the state of the clinic, how well the dentist speaks English is often a good indicator of them being well educated, and you can read reviews online of course. There are dental clinics all over HH though as are there pharmacies, never have I been to a country where these 2 businesses plus 7/11s exist in such numbers lol

  5. The door is starting to close on this topic. I have not seen an on topic post about the METV for several posts. Posts that are not on topic will be removed.

Well then lets get back on topic because it is does concern / intrigue me. It is also just the natural evolution of conversing, to tail form this to that and so forth.

Anyway we ALL need official word that is not hearsay or something not set in stone, we need to know

    >how much it will cost

    >how many border runs we must make

    >where do we need to apply for it

    >what are the requirements

    >and can we re-enter Thailand an unlimited amount of times.

It's all so shady and they intend to release this new visa in 10 days ... pffft

  6. Forget the METV for long stay it's just a trap. The easier way to stay in LOS is still the ED VISA. Of course it cost more but you can stay 1 year n Thailand whitout showing any proofs of revenue earned. I live in Pattaya so i know a scholl called Excel Language Centre who offer a 1 year ED Visa with english courses for 17 000 baths. And if you purpose is to stay Thailand only for sunny vacation you don't need to follow the english lesson. Ask the manager when you will apply, she is very comprehensive. You just need to be present when the police immigration come to check. That's all.

Yeah but will that be the next crack down, I would like to learn Thai but I can't be arsed if after I learn it I have 2 leave the country whats the point of that, also is that the total price 17000b what about extending it and is there a visa run before u get it?

Sent from my SM-G900F using Tapatalk

I had 4 years of EDs back to back in my passport and recently obtained a new multi entry tourist visa from Laos. When that is over and I have hd my extension, I may try my luck with another tourist visa (I like tripping it to Laos) and then by that point we all should know what's going on with this new shady illusive visa. If it is one where I need to head back to blighty every 6 months and that bs then I would either get an ED again (can speak Thai really we'll as it is obviously after 4 years of learning it) or I would pack up and head to Laos, lovely country and lovely people... dare I say more so than here

are you sure that is still an option?

I might be ignorant about specific provinces law but in Phetchaburi I just signed up a few weeks ago for Walen and I can only get up to 1.5 years total nowadays.

which is split into 3x 6 months, something like beginner/intermediate/advanced

I was told it was "new rules" .

Again Thailand seem to make their own rules from province to province and immigration office to office. I live in HH and my school I've been with, TLC, has been amazing for the standard of teaching and how they help you with visa issues.

One of the directing managers there told me before I went to Laos last month because my ED had ran out, she stated that I should get a tourist visa and then as my passport is going to be renewed it won't be an issue, then I can decide what I wish to do i.e. study with them, elsewhere or go somewhere else different visa etc

  7. Returning to Blighty every six months is ideal. You keep your right to free NHS treatment and you can see late spring, summer, and some autumn. Under current new rules if you are non resident for over three months you lose your your right to free NHS treatment.

Yeah and I herd u will loose your tax free allowance soon, can you post a link where u herd about that please

Sent from my SM-G900F using Tapatalk

Back home I had never voted because I never agreed totally with what any of the parties represented, but the conservatives have really screwed a lot of people over this term and especially this law about leaving the country for x amount of months and not being able to have the benefit of the NHS, I can see why but that was set up for it's citizens, wherever we live, we are still their citizens at the end of the day. What a prick he is

  9. Sorry guys i just talked to the thai embassy in canberra again and now im confused. Today i was told you can apply from any country that has a thai embassy and when i asked do i have to be a resident of that country she said she didnt know so i have no idea now.... she did not know if there was a waiting period between applying either....I guess we have to wait until someone actually applies....

hahaha wow so it seems that the immigration officials there in Aus are just as incompetent as they are here.. must be in their genes or something man, or simple lack of communication coming from the top brass. Thanks anyway though and keep trying for us if you can wai.gif

  10. my grandfather hat psoriasis: He got a lot better by lots of UV. Bought a solarium and got full scale sun ever day (brown) and strange enough when it went away it didn't came again.

    My mother nothing

I once took care of her garden and ate lots of tomato...I got it, but it went away when I reduced tomato. If you eat lots of tomato try to test if makes it worse

Same. Brother-in-law had it all his life. Went on hols and got badly sunburned and it went away. Did sun beds after that and it stayed away. Strange.

What really!!? Do you mean some sun bed sessions and it went away without the need for constant sessions, or did he keep going back?

when i was young i had patches as big as my hand all over my torso, when they finally sent me to the UV and i got really burned, they disappeared almost overnite, and have never returned, thats almost 25 years ago, but i still get it on my under carriage, in arm pits , scalp a little , and other places the sun cant get to.

That's it then, decided. Tomorrow heading to Suan Son beach in HH and will watch the sun rise and get burned more than shrimp on a drunk Aussi guys BBQ. Obviously my hair though, as someone said just get a short hair cut and the sun will get to the patches. I firstly do not like the same of my head, and also I would hate to walk around with these red patches on my head for people to see, that would terrible bah.gif

One downside yes, especially for older folk unlike myself. But it is not really cost effective to me and it isn't something I would feel happy doing, SE Sia feels like home to me now in all honesty

  12. I just spoke to the thai embassy in canberra australia and to apply for the new 6 month visa you have to be in your own country of residence and you cant do it from neighbouring countries so every 6 months you have to go home to re apply.. Its a multiple entry visa and you have to leave thailand every 60 days and it cost 225 australian dollars...

Are you <deleted> kidding me? So in practice if foreigners want this new visa we have to apply for it in our home land and then leave every 6 months to reapply in our home country? Ok then that is that idea out of the window for me the whistling.gif

Me too. I was looking forward to it until I realised I have to travel 24 hours to home country. My house there is rented out, and have no relatives able to accommodate me (at least not the ones that are talking to me). Maybe friends could help out there, but time moves on and they start families etc and I feel I would be imposing, so that would leave me with hotel as the only option.

I guess I'm reduced to 60+30 until I reach retirement age. A couple of people are suggesting we go take a look at neighbouring countries, which I'm not overly enthusiastic about, but it could be an option.

There's no way I am heading back to the UK twice a year just to live in Thailand forget that for a laugh. I wouldn't mind living in Laos if the visas were allowed to be back to back as unlimited, I in fact prefer Laos to Thailand often so that wouldn't be an issue, Cambodia or Myanmar is not up my street though

  13. Hmm, wow Thailand is really screwing over the younger people who are expats herr aren't they. Do they not understand that they can bring money into their economy from home, why all the red tape and bs.No other country in SE Asia makes things this problematic I swear

Some SEA countries do, some don't. Laos is 30+30 days (the 2nd double-price), and need a "fixer" for a business visa to go beyond this. Not sure about back-to-back re-entries there. Malaysia gives me 90 days on entry (USA passport), and can extend and/or do a border-run for another 90, but after that, questioning starts, and entries may be denied.

By contrast, Cambodia is easy - pay up to a year at a time for ME and never have to leave. What I know of Vietnam is 3-mo (showing $3000 in funds for acceptance) + 3-mo extensions in-country - not sure if there is a limit on the extensions, or further proof of funds on those. Myanmar - no idea.

Philippines is easy, 30 days on arrival that can be extended for 59 days then extend for 3 months at a time (6 months in Manila, Cebu, Davao) up to 14 months (3 years in Manila, Cebu, Davao), exit the country, come back, rinse & repeat.

Or deposit US$20,000(age 35-50, if over 50 there are other options) in an approved bank & get an SRRV, gives you the right to live, work, own a business there for as long as you leave the cash in the account.

That's great and thanks for the info but it's the Philippines.. so yeah not for me

  15. I smashed my face in and need 3 crowns and an extraction starting next week until about 6 weeks. That is a lot of work and I have been to several places to check competence and prices, I did this accident in January! I live in HH and I am using a clinic named 'Smile' ob sou 34/30 in Phetkasem. The entire work I was quote 54,000 but that is 3 crowns, an extraction, a filling and 2 post pillars. Hope this helps but guessing you are not in HH

  17. Monk, get a number 2 , or less, then the sun will help ur scalp, like Konini says, short bursts to start, almost guarantee it will help, unless you have it inside ur ears or behind, then the betnovate or davionex comes in handy.

When it is really bad it is behind my ears and inside my ears, it is so harsh that people will judge you on this. My ex GF for example thought it was AIDs.. Thai logic though. And anyway short hair doesn't suit my head shape lol. I have hair that is not long as in like down to my shoulders, but it isn't a standard style you get at the barbers; in fact since 2011 I have been cutting my own hair. I have taught myself how to because I was so embarrassed to go to the barbers with this annoying life long disease. Any other ideas for scalp P? I swear diet is key, I am sure of it, but it is so hard to adhere to you know

  18. Sorry i didnt ask if you have to leave time between re applying i might give them another call tomorrow...

Please do as I am very curious to know and I do not wish really to go back to ED, yeah that rhymes but I am only an amateur poet and I sure do know it. However my poems may be short and sweet, they are usually for the girl who makes my heart beat. She is not Thai or Laos, she's from Lebanon and simply just one word ... 'wow' thumbsup.gif

Do you mean you are not sure on the back 2 backs for Laos or Thailand, I am curious about both actually

  20. I have a friend back in Sydney i've known all my life,

with every question, his answer would be

''well yes and no'' he has never changed, so my

reply to your dilemma is ''well yes and no''

Since the 70's, i would travel to Europe

and other countries to monitor the families real

estate business so i would carry many envelopes

with different currencies, this has always been a

pain in the bottom as you may appreciate, why not

use a credit card or travelers cheques, well there

are personal reasons for not doing that,, the main

one being ''exchange rates and ''bank skimming

    fees''

    So to answer your question

---> ''no bank account back home''

---> foolish, because you being a resident you will

pay no foreigner tax and funds are secure in your

    own currency.

---> if you come from a first world country and live in

a third world country eg, UK to Nigeria,

Move your currency to Nigeria, then try to move it

back to UK Pounds or € Euros, the exchange would

    kill you.

Exchange for gold? WHY, it's not as valuable as it has

been, for jewellery, yes, for saving No

Keep your funds in Thailand (your life's savings) WHY

you are not Thai, this is not your country, reason also

Value of Baht currency is low, worldwide

    Political stability,, low

Internet currency, PayPal, Bitcoin, major websites being

hacked every day, only some we know about.

Research as much as you can to evaluate the best options

    for your personal circumstance.

So basically in your honest opinion I should return home, set up a bank account there, and keep all of my savings there in England? How can we ever trust banks they, they do not save your money as most of us are aware, they use to and spend it and lend it. Is owning god really not a good choice? I was thinking of taking half of my savings and spending it on gold, but maybe now I won't. I am also not so knowledgable when it comes to stocks and shares, so I would be a moron to go into that really.

  21. We lived in Australia for 20 years, my dermatologist's office is there so I know the skin cancer concerns, but it's not too risky. If you can get it under control (as I have) the sun is just a maintenance thing - short and sweet and always with my face covered(I have enough wrinkles thankyouverymuch).

I didn't know nails went yellow, obviously mine never have. I don't think the arthritis is all that common, and being in a tropical zone works very much in our favour as the cold seems to have make it (maybe seem) worse.

Yea that is one reason I moved here back in 2010 because of the sun, England is simply GREY! However I have P worst on my scalp .. So the sun never reaches it there. Like I mentioned about diazepam and a link with anxiety, when I was taking those medications it was far less of an issue, actually it almost cleared it up. But having scalp P is annoying as it flakes off in a worse way than dandruff and the sun does not get to it sad.png

The nails is something horrible, I do not smoke so people may think i do or they are generally grossed out but it lol. But come on, what can we do if it is incurable, people should be more understanding of each other and not react in such ways.

Rant over, here is an example of the kind of thing that you can get on your nails for P (not my pic)

    post-216306-0-14982500-1446435614_thumb.

  22. I think he was referring to entries at a border crossing.

Joe, I now have a double entry tourist visa from Laos (it's thai obviously) and that is good for 60 days, I can then apply at immigration for an extension for30 days to the sound of 1,900. Now, this is my first tourist visa in about 4 years as I was on an ED before that, now I am fluent in Thai pretty much, well lets say maybe one notch down from fluent I left schooling. Plus my passport is nearly full and I am getting a new one soon so it will be fresh. My question is how many double entry tourist visas will I be able to get back to back from Laos? I do not like the idea of this METV at all, for my specific circumstances I mean, and I could study Thai again I guess but it costs more than border runs and I would only need to learn a bit more on my reading and writing.

    Cheers
