  1. I just spoke to the thai embassy in canberra australia and to apply for the new 6 month visa you have to be in your own country of residence and you cant do it from neighbouring countries so every 6 months you have to go home to re apply.. Its a multiple entry visa and you have to leave thailand every 60 days and it cost 225 australian dollars...

Are you <deleted> kidding me? So in practice if foreigners want this new visa we have to apply for it in our home land and then leave every 6 months to reapply in our home country? Ok then that is that idea out of the window for me the whistling.gif

  2. Thanks for the replies everyone it has helped a lot so far. I am only mid 20s but everyone should save from time to time as we never know what is around the corner right..?

I am not going back to my home country of her old England any time soon, haven't for nearly 6 years and have zero intentions to, but who knows. My point is no bank account there can be opened when I am here, so that option is out.

I currently am with Kaiskorn and think they are maybe one of the best Thai banking systems? I am interesting in purchasing some gold though because as some mentioned, inflation rates constant flux of the value of the THB and other currencies is worrying if you want to save a lot of earned wealth. So I am thinking maybe have 3 bank accounts here in Thailand and also purchase some gold? Sound ok...?

So next question, where do I get my gold lol, how do I know it is legit and how should it be stored?

  3. I developed it at the age of 3; we were in the process of moving and dad had started the new job so was away during the week. Mam says that I started screaming on Sunday night when he left and didn't stop until the Thursday or Friday when he came back every week for 6 months until our new house was built and we finally moved. She noticed a bad rash on my back and thought it was the change of water. A couple of weeks later she took me to the doctor and it was diagnosed as psoriasis. I'm 52 now and it still flares up when I'm under big pressure or stressing. When it's at it's worst, I get it on my scalp too. It works in perfect tandem with Dougal, my pet stomach ulcer, but the up side of that is when Dougal starts growling I know I'm going to get a flare up and jump on it straight away so it doesn't get out of hand. My diet makes no difference, I go from ultra healthy to can't be bothered and junk food every day. Only the stress triggers it.

I'm lucky in that I only have it on my joints - elbows, knees and big toes and occasionally a plaque will form somewhere random. 10-15 minutes out on the balcony on the sun lounger every day keeps it clear, alternating the way I lie every day side to side with both front and back, increased to 30 minutes if I get a flare up. Back home I used to have 10 minutes in the UV machine 3 times a week at my dermatologist's office. Now, when I'm somewhere with insufficient sun, Daivinox (calcipotriene) ointment clears it perfectly as long as it is applied every day. It's expensive, but it works (for me, everyone is different).

Try both, you never know. If you're anything like most of us sufferers you've probably tried dozens of things over the years; Daivinox really has been a life-changer for me.

    Good luck with it.

Thanks for the info and knowledge :)

I know UV does work wonders over time but again skin cancer... but yeah just my own opinion on that tbh. I also have an enlarged lymph-gland which I have had for months, 2 docs have seen / felt it and mentioned it was nothing. I did research and people with scalp P often have enlarged lymph-glands. It does go up and down and it doesn't hurt at all. I think I've had this enlarged node for multiple years in fact.

Anyway I also have yellows nails at the tips, no I don't smoke and from research I know it is the P. I hope I don't get the arthritis .. I', only 27

  4. I was contemplating this earlier as I was somewhere that only had toilet paper and I missed the used of the 'bum gun' as I like to put it lol. I really do think it is way more efficient that TP but maybe you should need a shower or something similar after due to drippage (which is not a word but I don't care) but it seems to be way more efficient than using TP imho, coming from a country where bum guns and bidets are non-existent mind you

Oh I love the bum gun, in fact couldn't live without it now. I like a bit of loo paper to dry off too if available. No problem so far. My issue is how do I clean my hands or for that matter go for a crap without getting down and dirty with someone else's bacteria. Mai pen rai. Not think too mutt darrrrring

Sorry but I MUST always have to do this to whoever it is, 'Mai bpen rai' ..

Now that is done lol, yeah coming from the UK where they never exist (bum guns) and not even bidets, I was fine with TP. Came here first nearly 6 years ago and was astonished at this silly technology. Now if I go to a loo and there is only TP I am annoyed or disappointed. What I do is (gong to get a little bit graphic here folks) is use the bum gun thoroughly, so like 30-60 seconds, plus it feels a little good on the pooch and balls anyway, then if there is no TP I squat and shake lol. Then I was my hands. At home however I just have a very quick shower after. But I think for once the Thais have something done far better than the West, and it is taking a S!%*

  6. I have lived in the land of Thais for 5 and a bit years, always had a Kasikorn bank account, well now I have 2 actually. Anyway I use one for incoming money and the other I have decided to use to save money. Now, the issue I have in my mind is this: is it wise to store your savings in a Thai bank? I have no bank account back home so for me the only other alternatives would be like to store it in cash at home (yeah nice idea right) purchase gold and store gold (I worry the THB will crash some day of course) or I could keep it something like Paypal. What would be the best thing to do here in you guys and gals opinions??

  7. That is real luck right there, and I bet she knows it more than any of us here do. That must be terrifying knowing you are probably going to drown. There was once a skydiving accident where they had to bail out of a plane out of control and this one guy ended up in the sea. He encountered jelly fish multiple times and was sting to hell, he managed to find some floating drift wood and was in the ocean for over 24 hours! Somehow he survived.

  8. I had pso since the age of 5 and am 45.

Like you I have seen countless doctors.

I found that the sun light indeed is making it better.

I personally on go to vegan restaurants using minimum oil and sugar, cook myself mostly and when out only eat fruits at fruit stalls

The nightshade veggies are a new thing for me, and I dont know if I should rejoice to the idea of may be curing my pso by avoiding them or cry because they are my favorites sad.png

    Questions:

    what are day products?

In gen kiaw wan, it's the sugar that gets you?

Did you get the outbreak after the one you had in Savannakhet?wink.png

To be honest I have had noticeable P. since I first had it, only certain things make it flare up worse such as the things mentioned, like alcohol (time to cry) sugars, dairy, nightshades, oils, red meats and starches. That leaves very little in the way of a diet but it is doable and like you I am almost vegan but only eat tuna and salmon. I have also heard that the natural sugars in fruit, fructose, can be a trigger too! It is very difficult to maintain such a diet in this country though.

In the know wan it would be the sugar and also the chicken that was in it, not the worst thing to cause an outbreak considering I was drinking a lot of beer lao as well.. when in Rome lol. Pic related, on the Mekong

    Ahh what a life!

    Someones got to have it.

So........nightshades include chillies? its a really bad news for me.Most of my recipes include tomatoes and green/red peppers and chilly!

In fact a large % of people with psoriasis will have something wrong with their gut also, maybe IBS or something similar. I kind of do have IBS but not so bad, however since my P was gotten worse and worse, my tolerance to spicy food as gone insane. I used to be able to et really hot stuff but now if I have say half of a small thai chill in my food, I will have stomach cramps soon after without a doubt. And yes chillies will cause flare ups in some or most people with this.

Something occurred to me yesterday actually. I always knew there was a link with anxiety and stress to psoriasis, and I remember when I was prescribed diazepam for a number of years. During this time of course my anxiety was gone (I suffered from social anxiety really badly to the extent one period spanning 4 months I left my house 3 times only) - however I also realised that my psoriasis cleared up so well. I am not sure if it is the anxiety alone or also something to do with the medication. That being said, taking benzodiazepines daily for more than 6 weeks is not a good idea, to take them for several years is hell, worst decision of my life. I am clean now but I had to taper for a long long time. Just a side note to think about. I wish scientists would do more research into diet / gut / and anxiety because I think they are all the causes for psoriasis, however maybe due to corporations in the big pharma, medical practitioners will prescribe steroid creams which do not address the actual issue which is deep within

  9. He is right....better than having some red mob burning downtown Bangkok again.

Better less democracy than deads on the street.

Laws need to be enforced not tilted towards the privileged few.

And look how messed up the US is these days lol, poor poor Benjamin Franklin

  11. The main beach strip from Hua Hin town down to Koh Takiap is not that special, it is 'oh-kay' but has the most amount of people, rubbish and sharp rocks in the water (hence the name Hua Hin). Go a few KMs South and you will find Suan Son which is far quieter, cleaner and genuinely a better place to be imho.

  12. Good question ,I would like to know too ?

I wanted some chamomile tea and also some peppermint but I went to the Chinese pharmacy on the corner of the junction near Soi 55 and G Mart. He said it is not popular enough among the Thais. Anyway so I was at another pharmacy and I found some herbal teas such as Gingko, Licorice and Jiaogulan.. there are many though and the brand is 'Herbal One'. I've realised that the pharmacies often smell the way they do because they stock these teas. The specific pharmacy I went to is on the same side street next to the Shopping mall (not to be confused with Market Village) where there is always one row of bikes down one side.

  13. Prednisolone cured mine but it can be some nasty stuff. See a doctor.

I've seen more doctors on this throughout the years than I've had hot dinners, they merely advise steroid creams and shampoos which are harmful to you health anyway, or like I mentioned nasty immune represent drugs. Prednisolone sounds like it has some bad side effects

  14. I have always wondered about these fictitious borders that we humans have created between 'countries' on this planet. On a map you see them all clearly but from space there are none whatsoever.

Anyway, I do not have overstay but I am musing here, how hard can it be to simply find a passage to a neighbouring country which is not an official border crossing point. Like walking through a jungle or something, it must be impossible to guard the entire border of a country

I don't agree or disagree with you from a philosophical point of view with respect to man made borders, but If the OP reads your post and decides to cross illegally into one of the neigbouring countries he should consider the problems he may face . It is possible to cross into Myanmar unofficially and let's just say I know from experience and leave it it that. Ok, now your are in Myanmar or any of the other neighbouring countries; how do you get back home or back into Thailand with an official (which is what you need) stamp without it costing more than 20000฿,if at all? Take the advice that many have already offered and find a way to come up with the 20K฿ and fly out.

True yes lol. If it was an overstay to a neighbouring country or one that was easy to access by land then it would be a different kettle of fish I guess. Curious about your Myanmar story, but yeah hush hush whistling.gif

  15. You never know where the cops are going to pop up.

well in hua hin its pretty easy to guess where they will be.

their favourite spots are on the main road near market village next to family mart and on the opposite side of the road.

also near the Rocco Condo chain opposite bangkok hospital.

they also used to hide at the U turn towards Kao Takiap (that one was more fun as once you could see them it was already too late)

last few years they liked to sit on soi 94 and next to the motorbike shop there.

and the last one i know of is the side road towards hilton.

They've got me a couple of times by being sneaky and hanging out down quiet side roads. One time they were waiting on the side road that comes off of Phetkasem Rd before the Esso petrol station coming into HH. Another time they were waiting on the side road that if you are heading from say The Grand Market again down Phetkasem, you can turn right down a side road that heads towards the beach and bar district. They were waiting halfway down there.

They used to like the round about near the train station as well and they do set up a check point on the road around the Elephant Village and Bannsillipin from time to time.

  16. I went there the other day and to say i am happier with this location is an understatement. Much bigger and less hot and it seems to be a genuinely more calm place to go. I also had a joke with one of the staff members. Is it going to return to the original location as that is under construction still ..?

  17. Just for future reference what is the usual procedure for overstay? I never intend to of course but I nearly came to it 2 weeks back as I had to leave but was very very ill. What are the circumstances and punishments etc??

If you were "very, very" ill a simple Hospital Doctors letter stating the facts and including the fact that your illness prevented travel would have secured an extension on medical grounds providing application was made Before overstay was established.

oh ok then, but what are the rules here. I have been here half a decade and never had an overstay issue but I am curious. I of course now the land of Thais seem to have different rules from province to province, border to border and official to official, but what is the difference in punishment for say 1 day, 1 week, 1 month, 1 year etc?

1 day isn't usually charged. 2 days is 1,000 baht then it's 500 baht for every day after. After 40 days you reach the maximum fine of 20k. So someone overstaying 40 days pays the same as someone overstaying 10 years.

The fine is the same at every border.

ok thanks but what is this talk of prison time?

  19. my grandfather hat psoriasis: He got a lot better by lots of UV. Bought a solarium and got full scale sun ever day (brown) and strange enough when it went away it didn't came again.

    My mother nothing

I once took care of her garden and ate lots of tomato...I got it, but it went away when I reduced tomato. If you eat lots of tomato try to test if makes it worse

Yes tomato is a nightshade food like I mentioned, they are bad for this condition just in the same familiy of foods as bell peppers. It all has to do with he gut and digestive system. That is where most of your immunity is controlled and so when you have psoriasis you have an issue with your gut. Doctors will just sell you creams to make the skin clear but they are harmful to the body. It is the same as like giving someone some cough medicine because they have a cough, but they cough is due to lung cancer.

I knew UV light was good for it, and some people do use special lamps but again I do not want to risk skin cancer just to look better with less red patches. And also it is on my hairline a little which is a problem.. Thanks anyway though :)
