  1. I have a different take on these coolers than a number of other folks here.

I have a fairly small unit made by Midea.

No heat whatsoever comes out of the back.

I use it with the windows open and I have it blowing on me. For this purpose it works fine.

Not at all sure how they would do with all the windows closed, and I am guessing they would not be great.

The air comes out much differently than a fan. I get a small "wall" of air.

For me it has solved my problem of my small office being a bit too hot with only a fan.

It is not particularly hot these last few days, and I have been using only the cooler without the fan.

Also the humidity coming out means that I don't need to drink as much water as I did with a fan blowing on me.

I cannot say that I notice any extra humidity, but of course it IS evaporating water.

Also, when using the freezer packs that come with the unit, I can't notice that much of a change in the air temp coming out.

And my unit was cheap. About B3,600. I don't remember the exact price.

  2. Many years ago while staying in a 5 star hotel, my wife and I went in for separate massages in the basement of the hotel.

BOTH of us got offered a happy ending.

    We both declined.

And with my wife, after she said "no thanks" the woman said she lived not too far from the hotel, and suggested "why don't you and your husband come by for dinner this evening."!!

I am now single, and I don't go in for massages nearly as much as I used to because it gets really annoying when one of the ladies will not easily take "No" for an answer.

  3. I was an Airbnb host in Japan and found it to be great.

I "rented" an extra bedroom in my apartment.

Hard to make money with Airbnb because you need to be cheaper than hotels.

But a great way to meet people and lessen your monthly spend.

90% or more of the people I had were great to good.

BUT, I understand through friends here that the govt. is more and more looking into this kind of thing, so one needs to be careful.

I know a Thai landlord who got a call from the govt. because one of the houses she rents had a friend coming to spend time with the actual tenant. NO money transaction, just the govt checking up on things.

So I think it is time to be careful, especially if the law says short term rentals are illegal except for hotels, or other registered companies.

  4. Just wondering if we are all talking about the same units here?

There are units that send out a cool mist. These seem like they would be a really bad idea in a house.

There are units that have what looks like a radiator in the back and you put ice and water in the back. The cold water (I think) cools the radiator.

Cool air comes out of these, but I cannot notice and mist coming out.

These units are also somewhat useless?

And BTW, the sales person said they work effectively for 8 hours or so.

    ??

  5. I went to Immigration in Chiang Rai and asked for proof of residence.

They said they would only produce such a document, after getting a request from the Transport office.

I went back to the Transport office and they gave me a form asking for the info, that I took to Immigration.

    Mixing and Matching

Converting your US license can be done in a half hour or so, depending on how busy they are.

Taking the driving test, and perhaps a "written" test is a whole other kettle of fish.

The way I read your questions, it sounded like the two processes were pretty much the same.

    But, no worries.

  6. I think you are "mixing and matching" here.

I say this because needing to take a driving test for a motorcycle does not fit into the same format of converting an existing license.

You can get your US license converted in a few minutes time if you have all the proper documentation.

IF you are needing proof of residence from immigration, you will first have to get the request for such info from Transport people first. So that will take two visits to the Transport office.

I was given a VERY simple "reaction" test and color blindness test, and nothing else. (In converting a US auto, drivers license.

Medical cert if good for a month. Not sure about Residence cert. The Med cert took me ten minutes to get in a local clinic. No need to go to a hospital.

I don't think they accept "copies only" but I could be wrong. Bring copies of your picture page of your passport, re-entry card, and visa page.

  7. As a general comment, as I know nothing about what pregnant women should and shouldn't consume-

People who are serious about the physical training they do, have told me that almost all Thai electrolyte products are of questionable quality, because they contain sodium and sweetners. The athletes I know here, get they electrolytes overseas.

And as at least one other person has said- Unless your wife is working out during her pregnancy, I don't know why she would need electrolytes.
