I am using a combination of the two- income doc. plus bank book.
Can I get the letter today and go to immigration tomorrow?
I hate to have to show up late.
-
I went to the US consulate today. Had an 8:30 appt. Got there 20 minutes early and I was OUT by 8:30.
Keep in mind that you are not allowed to bring your laptop etc. Not sure if they will let you place a backpack etc. off to the side. If they don't then you will be stuck if you bring a bag.
AND I am wondering...
Will getting a bank letter dated the day before I go to immigration to renew... will this be good enough?
Asking because I would prefer to get to immigration early.
TIA,
Charlie

Is this everything I will need to renew my visa?
Completed TM7- Printed 2 sided.
Passport
Bank book
Letter from Bank confirming balance and statement
Photos- 3 would be best, just in case 4 X 6 cm.
Proof of residence, and they might want a copy of your rental contract.(What do I show as proof of residence?)
Foreign National Information Form
One COPY of the following-
Passport photo page, visa, entry stamp, current extension and all other pages that have something for Thailand on it.(Does this mean I need to make a copy of every page showing past visas, etc.?)
TM6 departure card
Bank book pages for three months. The money will need to be in the bank for 3 months.
Bank book ID page
Do I need a copy of the bank letter?Copies of
All previous retirement extensions
Passport notification of residence (paper stamped into passport). ??? -
Yes, ok, maybe better to go early!
-
Thanks Joe!
I will go on the 15th!

The last day of my O visa with retirement extension is Jan. 14, which is a Sunday.
How many days grace period for renewing late?
And when I do renew does my 90 day reporting start anew?
-
Thanks Bob.
In the past, I have had more than $50,000 and always used the same form!
:-)
Or at least I think I did.

Is the exact rate one uses so important?
I would think any number that is "close" would be acceptable, since you don't wind up paying tax etc. on the quote you make.
-
Help me to be clear please-
1. Are you saying that we only have to report accounts when they are over $10,000 for EACH account?
2. And then- If you have more than $50,000 in total accounts during a year you have to use a different form than if you have less than $50,000?

ok, great!
I hadn't noticed the wording before, and I would be under the necessary amount if I could only count funds from the US.

I am a US citizen. I receive money from the US govt. and the Japanese government.
The affidavit form for the US Embassy states "money from US sources" or words to that effect.
Can I give them a figure that includes my money from the Japanese government?

You need boric acid, and not borax. They are two different things.

So if someone has signing power on an account they are technically breaking the law if they take out any funds after the other party to the account dies?
Do you know of anywhere I can read about this?
When I asked my banker she said "mai pen rai"

My line of thinking about the bank account once you pass away....
I would most prefer that my Japanese daughter takes all of the money out of my account, as soon as possible, rather than needing an intermediary.
So, IF the police or other authority is not informing the bank of my death.... my daughter who is a co-signer on my account, should have little trouble clearing out my account.
Again, my bank said this is usually easy to do, but hoping to get someone with specific knowledge here.

In many Western countries a person's bank accounts all get blocked within about 24-48 hours after they pass away, since a system is in place to monitor all of this.
My bank here said that such a system does not yet exist here.
So, if one dies, and the police or other people come, is it likely that the bank gets noticed and bank accounts blocked/frozen?
I am thinking this will not happen, but not at all sure.

How does one find out the fees before coming to the clinic?

So I am left wondering...
Should I go to Immig. showing that I went away for 3 weeks and am now back, or just continue to do nothing this time around, as I am still living in the same location?
-
Here in Chiang Rai, I have done this before on my own.
-
Ok.
As always, thanks Joe!

Hi,
What do you mean by "old registration slip"?
And will I receive some sort of fine?

As always.... thanks for all the help so far.
I am not sure what the immigration officer was trying to tell me today-
I get $1.077 a month in social security, and at B31 to the US$ that equals B400,644 a year. My bank book never showed less than B460,000.
He seemed to say (in rather bad English) "I help you today, but not again,"
I of course had the doc from the US consulate, and the bank letter, etc. Was I supposed to present him with something else?
I got the bank letter signed yesterday and went to Immigration today. He did not mention anything about the bank letter needing today's date.
