  1. 5th Spurs

    :o:D:D

You got to be sniffing gas Phil :D

In my opinion, Spurs are the best team outside the Big 4 at this moment in time. They might not finish 5th as they've had a terrible start to the season but I can see them possibly getting a UEFA Cup spot.

  2. I'm all for giving Big Sam time but it has to be said that his team looks clueless. One point from Wigan and Derby. It feels like Souness all over again. There is no consistency in his selection and during the games he keeps switching players positions. When Keegan and Sir Bobby were in charge you could almost certainly predict the line up and positions each player would play before the match. With Allardyce, I ain't got a clue and by the looks of things neither do his players. The big decision now for Ashley and Mort is whether to give him money to spend in January. Would he spent it wisely or would we sign more duds like Geremi, Rozenhal, Barton and Smith? Unless things start to improve very soon, I can see the big man getting the boot in the New Year.

  3. I also agree that Maradona was a tw#T :D , but through shear genius he has to be in any team ever selected :D .

I agree, but couldn't bring myself to include a drug cheat in my team. In the end his reputation for sportsmanship means I would be a hypocrtye to include him. Mexico 1986? :o

    What happened in Mexico 86?

  4. According to some sources, Boro have put in a bid for Ronaldhinio (10 million).

Has to be the stupidest rumour of the season, other than signing Andy Cole for his experience.

No the stupidest rumour of the season was ...

    NEWCASTLE TARGET EUROPE

The closest that Sunderland will ever get to playing in Europe is playing in pre-season friendly in Ireland.

  5. I think they haven't won anything major in the last 50 odd years at St James Park , the fans must be well piss#d off with the lack of a serious challenge and losing in finals.

1969 Inter City Fairs Cup was the last trophy that Newcastle won.

Anyway looks like Big Sam will hold on to his job for a bit longer as Newcastle got a respectable 1-1 against Arsenal last night.

The Inter City Fairs Cup is hardly a 'major' trophy Spit , by Newcastle standards.

Well done last night and it was a well deserved point against the second best team in England :bah: .

I reckon this could be the kind of result Big Sam needed to kick start the season and with a run of good results all the calls for Sam to be sacked will die down.

At a time when news was transferred by word of mouth and could not be verified, it has been proved on the Discovery Channel that Newcastle United didn't in fact win the old equivalent of the UEFA Cup, they actually won the British Rail Inter City Fares Cup when they beat Crewe Railway Yard Albion 5-4 in a best of 9 game of stone-paper-scissors when the original game, tied at 1-1, was abandoned when the ball got stuck between a rail and a sleeper. Until now this remains Newcastle's only silverware in the last 100 years. Any reference to FA Cup glory in the 1950's is pure fiction. It never happened. :bah:

    :o:D:D:D

Ha, Ha Ha Sunderland. Very Witty. :D

The Inter City Fairs Cup was the old name for the UEFA Cup. I'm quite sure that there would be massive celebrations up in Tyneside if Newcastle were to ever win the UEFA Cup. In fact there would probably be mass celebrations if they even qualified for it next season.

  7. If you look at both Celtic and Rangers you will see their teams are made up of more Scottish players now than a few years back. Hence why the national team has improved over the last few years.

correct. I certainly noticed rangers (under walter smith/mccoist) play alot more scots than recent years.

7 old firm players in the starting 11 against italy - hutton, mcmanus, weir, brown, hartley, ferguson & mcculloch. a few others on the bench too - boyd, mcgregor, caldwell etc.

The Old Firm may have a lot of Scottish players but the majority of them have been bought from other Scottish teams. It's not good for the smaller clubs when Celtic and Rangers sign up their best players. How are they expected to challenge the Old Firm? If you look at the 2 Edinburgh sides now you will see that the majority of their players are foreigners because they keep losing any decent Scottish players that they produce.

  9. A lot of people forget that Shearer was assistant to Roeder when Newcastle went on a great run at the end of the 05\06 season. It was only when Shearer left that Roeder and Newcastle really began to struggle last season.

I agree with most that it's only a matter of time until Shearer gets the job.

  10. Mass celebrations around the stadium of <deleted> as Sunderland score a last minute goal to beat the worst team in Premiership history by 1-0.

That basically sums up Sunderland's ambition.

A win is a win Mr. Spit. Are you looking over your shoulder??? :D

After Arsenal on Wednesday, Newcastle's next 4 games are Brum (h), Fulham (a), Derby (h) and Wigan (a). If they still have 20 points or less after these games then I would be worried. :o

  11. I don't think that David Pleat is that bad. He might waffle on at times but at least he's aware of what is happening during the game and he can give some insight on tactics.

The ones I can't stand are Brian Marwood, Efan Ekoku and David Platt.

  12. Good result for the Skunks. Is that one more chance BSA has now??

The performance was a lot better than the result suggests. All credit to the Newcastle fans as they backed the team and manager from start to finish.

  13. Did you see all those Skunks at the Landfill giving Allardyce their vote of confidence last weekend?

Mark my words, the crowds at Sid James Park will begin tumbling when they open the gates and let them go home instead of keeping them behind bars all season.

He reckons he's only got two games left to save his job. If they lose today in similar fashion he might not have that long.

The next 2 games are against Blackburn and Arsenal so there is a good chance that the big man may be soon packing his bags.

  14. How important is football to your life?

My weekends revolve around either playing it or watching it.

If your team looses how long do you mope about it?

I don't mind as much if my team loses to a better team if the performance is good. But playing <deleted> and losing to inferior opposition is very annoying. :o

    Does it affect your mood?

A win makes the weekend and Monday mornings that little bit sweeter. :D

Does a loss or a win change your plans for the evening?

No, I usually get pissed regardless of the score. :D

Are you the same person out with mates when you loose?

I'll be pissed off for about 30 mins or so but then the enjoyment of wallowing in self pity kicks in. :D:D

  15. Andrew Leci was hosting the show last night :o , I much prefer Andrew Dykes :D .

And it's funny everytime Steve McMahon is not on the show Paul Masefield's voice get's a lot louder and he has a lot of strong opinions :D .

It was funny to see Masefield all of a sudden transform into this aggressive, opinionated pundit. I thought at one point he was going to nut Shebby. No doubt when Slaphead returs, Masefield will return to his usual submissive self. "Is that 1 or 2 sugars Mr McMahon"?

  16. According to Football focus last night they said the Mc'leish's salary would jump from 400K with the SFA to 1.6M with Brum.

Can't really blame him for leaving. We should really be asking the question why the national coach of Scotland can quadruple his wages by going to a struggling Premiership team. Something not right there. :o

For his replacement, I suppose Billy Davies or Gary McAllister would be fine. Just as long as it isn't Souness.

  17. Last week Big Sam ruled himself out of the England job. After last weekend's debacle against Liverpool he must be having second thoughts about replacing McClaren. If Big Sam could get out of Newcastle just now with his reputation still in tact, I think he might take it.

  18. Tricky and cold. I wouldn't fancy going to Norway or Iceland in November.

Compared to our last group, this one looks a lot easier. The Dutch will be favourites but they have a habit of underachieving. I fancy us to get at least second place.
