  1. :o

We are a few expat lads living in Krabi - well into mountain biking and have pretty much exhausted the Krabi area. Does anyone know of any good long trails in Phuket? Varied would be great!

    Thanks

    mr_lob

I'm coming to krabi next month, was always intersted to know what's differance between regulare

bike riding and mountian biking? Is it much faster or easily give you more pace after few paddling

How much a good mountain bike cost models? and where i can buy good one in either krabi or samui? also i saw one recently that very lightweight and can fold and put in your luggage

Regular bike riding is normally road biking - sure its good for exercise but you can't beat the rush of a fast downhill through the jungle!

A ''good'' mountain bike will cost you upwards of B40,000, but you can get an adequate one for B18,000 ++. I have never heard of a foldable mountain bike, but lightweight, they are.

How fast they go, i mean KM/hour speed? 40- 50km...and How much one can rent 18,000 per

day on monthly basis? are they as comforable as motorsai to go around, and there there models

that can seat my gf too :D

  3. The blessing village pool is about 15 metres tops and kidney shaped so not ideal for lengths. Santaburi is about 35 metres long but only good if your staying there. Even if you pay a monthly fee and join the gym/squash/tennis deal it does not include the pool. Which is ridiculous because I have never seen anyone it it!

I googled it and it's a 6 star hotel, room prices starting from 10,000 bhat up, no wonder why they don't allow outsiders, i'm looking for public swiming pool, TY.

  4. Much better deals are available in Phuket:

scooter rental; 125 baht a day.

    Beaches are much nicer.

    Accommodations more reasonable.

Restaurant staff aren't usually stoned out of their minds like some places in Samui!

    Samui you feel really trapped.

Phuket offers a myriad of very good options.

You'd have to pay me to live in Samui.

cut your crap, do you even know what island means? I spent total 120 days in phuket altogather before coming to samui for 20 days for first time only. I swear my god i have met several people who lived in phuket, then moved to samui never wanted to go back, but never met anyone who lived in samui ealier then move to phuket

If you are talking about patong, kamala, kata, ...and surronding, then samui has much better scenery (going north from Phuket to surin, phangna, rannog...where majority thai muslim live has better scenery than samui, but no farang live in those area).

Samui is lot cheaper, you can get nam-som, nam-manoo drink in reagge, green mango for 50 bhat no tourist place can be this cheap, phuket they will screw you nam-som for $120 :o

  5. I may also be there long term - several years - if the place is available. As I am looking for just a room or two, and do not want to be in central patong, do not want pool, gym, view, hotel facilities, the cost could be quite modest.

As a daytrader, you won't have time for any other activities, and you need more sleep everyday

than average person due to eye strain :D

A place with everything in place, or just the right kind of telephone line, so much the better. thank you.

Yeh, a backup phone for dial-up internet and calling up your broker to close your freezed order :o

Your best option is to find a place yourself and call up internet company, takes 2 weeks only

  6. looking to open a take away turkey kebab rest on koh phanang (s/p)

anyone know of any suitable units about>?

I remember talking to turkish guy at green mango, 100 bhat for each shawarma :o

Shawarmas don't sell more than 40-50 bhat in bangkok and 60 bhat in phuket, that's the

maximum. Here in Dubai it's sold for 30 bhat only

Secondly, that idiot was using rotti like bread for his shawarma, instead of labanese standard bread

used, I have eaten shawarma more than 1000 times, most awful i had ever

  7. We can all bitch and moan about the Bangkok Airways fares - but remember without Bangkok Airways there probably would not be an airport at all. They took their own money and invested it in building the whole facility.

Some might wish to argue that Samui would have been better off without an airport. They are entitled to their point of view - but equally why should they deny the Thais the benefit of travel to this island by air - and a lot of Thais do use it.

Also why should they allow other airlines to fly in at special rates and create competition on routes that they have developed?

I agree it is galling that the fares are high - but I would not deny their right to charge what they like - they took the risk and they deserve the rewards.

I think you are shareholder, i hop company collapse and ur shares go south too

  8. I still think it is a ruse to force Bangkok air to lower their landing fees so Thai can get in there too.

but, I wouldn't put it past any Thai govt to do such a short-sighted action that would cause tremendous long term damage.

Samui fare is joke, i paid 3,900 bhat one way back to bangkok 2 weeks ago, even you buy two ways from bangkok to samui cost you 5,900 bhat, i don't think many thai family afford to go on holiday to samui

    From surat is:

    bkk-surat airport 1750 bhat

surat airport to surat peir 400 bhat

surat peir to samui peir 100 bhat

samui peir to chaweng 200 bhat

    That's 2500 bhat, again same + pita

  9. I heard if dispute happens, you can't take the baby out of thailand according to law, if your child

don't have foreign citizenship, because baby is belong to thai mother with foreign husband always

    So per my assumption:

1- first get your baby foreign cictizenship

2- baby can have thai citizenship anytime, because mother is thai (you don't have to mention

anything related to foreign citizenship as this might cause problems

Please correct me if i'm wrong, thanks

  10. What is infamous samui tatoo, never heard of it?

Either an exhaust burn from a motorbike rental, or road rash from a motorbike rental crash :o

Ok, hehe i got second one.

I remember side road for motor sai has too much sands, which has to be really awere of in rainy day, I don't remember same in phuket, may be this has to do with so much spread out construction going on in samui island

  11. I can see Krabi forum is very inactive, does that mean less farang are living there?

I really liked samui, and looking and my journey report you can say what are my intersts, i appreciate if someone can tell me if like krabi is really queit, small nightlife....btw i like going to

movies and starbucks.... are there any?

Krabi is a town, city, is a better word and if you haven't seen the picture from the area, you are really missing out. One beautiful area, with limestone mountains that will take your breath away. Much more scenic in MHO, than Samui. I was there for a couple of weeks and there's your starbucks and cinemas, all you need. I feel you should be in the Lonely Planet-Branches forum, more info for what you seek IMHO. I highly recommend taking at least 2-4 weeks there, if posable. Or go to krabi site and check the link on the top that says about Krabi, and you'll see the pictures people sent in and more. Have a good trip Dude, see you got the infamous Samui Tatoo!, everyone usually does.

What is infamous samui tatoo, never heard of it? I'm back home and missing samui, not sure wanna go to krabi, again anywhere in thailand is better than where i am now

  12. Never forget about rentals. The north is a good spot. Rental places in abundance. from 8000 baht to 100.000 baht a month.

For 140.000 pounds you can rent your holiday home every year until you are 200 years old, and not be stuck on 1 single place if your ideas about a good holiday destination changes. Forget about the rental income. Too many bungalows/houses/villas available. You would be happy to make 1 or 2%, not even enough to cover for maintenance.

The ARP option is bs. There is no 6%. You pay for that yourself with the inflated price. Renewable?? You will know that in 2 years. It is possible, but with which guarantee?

And because you can not legally own the place anyway why bother buying and tying up the money.

Remax is just a franchise, nobody will be accountable because this is Thailand. Just consider those things when you make the decision.

Mister Russell will not be acountable, he would be if he was in the UK, but he is not! And if you compare it with other prices for the same size house/villa it is about 200-300% of what would be considered a good price.

In my opinion being on a holiday is not enough to make a decision. Try to go on at least an extended holiday around the same spot. 3-4 months minimum.

Before anybody trying to counter this, remember this is a personal opinion after living in Samui. The legal issues are known and they are twisted so many times nobody seems to have a good advice. I would say, stick to the written law. And interpret them yourself, not some lawyer or other person that benefits from the situation.

Foreigners who come to buy home in ay thai island are STUPID, Unless you are millionier and don't care your money evaporate

Sorry, i'm too lazy too type WHY, the reason...

  13. I heard krabi has many local dive within reach easily buy long tail boats? What are good local
