So this is only for restaurants who can afford to drop their prices by 50%.

Doesn't help with the vast amounts I see wasted in my village, by family & others but which goes to feed the pigs & chickens.

Surely if it goes to feed the pigs and chickens it is not wasted?

However, if the so called "waste" contains pork or chicken there may be some moral and religious issues involved particularly if the pigs or chickens are strict Buddhists, Muslims or Hindus?

this is a major issue if the situation continues to deteriorate.

As i understand it, the policy so far (in Thailand)  has been to hospitalize all positive covid cases , whether symptomatic or not. This has probably helped reduce spread in Thailand as it is also a very effective means of quarantining .

The hospital that carries out the test is obliged to admit the positive cases it finds; consequently many hospitals are already running out of beds. I heard yesterday of one major Bangkok hospital that was refusing to carry out tests because it said it did not have the capacity to admit more (covid) patients.
I suspect the policy on immediate hospitalization will have to change. The majority of covid sufferers (80 percent plus) should be able to manage just fine outside a hospital setting . Thailand will likely be forced to move to the system followed in other countries where people are only hospitalized if their symptoms become more serious.

Maybe a good solution would be to utilize the spare hotel capacity that is now building again within the state provided and the ASQ system. Positive covid cases, amongst otherwise healthy people,  could be sent to these hotels/facilities  and quarantined there. They would only need to be transferred to a hospital if their symptoms deteriorated.

Obviously the hotels concerned would need to upgrade and make other changes (to protect their staff) if they are going to switch to taking confirmed positive cases as guests; but this should be possible for some at least. This would ease the pressure on the healthcare system and would likely be preferable to army run field hospitals.

Good idea, but the shot was wrong as the football commentators used to say!

Unfortunately for us all the SH!T is going to hit the fan BIG-TIME in the next 2/3 weeks.

It would take most hotels at least a month to prepare for ASQ even if they had the money to do it!.....I Don't see Pruyut sponsoring that in the next 24 hours or EVER!

    I'm stocking up and staying home......Essentials first.....Alcohol!

I’ve never had a problem renewing my extension of stay ( retirement ) before it expires at the Samui immigration office the only downfall is that for the past couple of year you have to wait several days after your application to get your passport back which is a pain when you live on a neighbouring island as it involves two trips by ferry boat as well as additional cost that was never an issue when Mr Knock was running the show it was done and dusted on the day and if you took him a gift it was done within the hour .

Yeah....But "Mr. Angry" as I Used to call him  because there was always a "Problem" with my Visa extension and I had to wait in his office for up to 1 hour....

He would sit there totally ignoring me and then Spit out some Thai stuff and ask for money!

Thank "The Lord" he ended up "In The Nick" on corruption charges!...C+nt!

Unless your return to UK is mega important and your ticket is flexible then I'd delay travelling to secure your next extension

It would also be helpful for the OP to tell us which office he is talking about.

If it's Koh Samui then we know it can be done with difficulty....If it's a different office then it may be a problem?

    Wow.

    Which office?

I've never heard of an office that doesn't allow retirement extension applications 30 days before expiration.

First thing I would do if I were you is visit your office with proof of your travel plans and confirm for sure that they really won't accept your application.

If not then there is absolutely no way to do a retirement extension outside of Thailand.

You would need to completely start over.

The OP doesn't say which office he wants to apply at.

However, I can confirm that Samui Immigration Office will not normally permit Retirement Extensions any more than 10 days prior to the renewal date.

I ran into this issue when I had to return to the UK for my son's wedding 2 years ago and had to travel more than 3 weeks before my renewal date and was going to be out of Thailand for 1 month.

The IMO was adamant that I could not renew the extension any more than 10 days in advance, but after much pleading she agreed reluctantly to let me do it 24 days in advance on condition I took copies of the Return Air Tickets.

I have just done a 90 day report and asked a different officer what was the earliest I could renew my next Extension, which is due on July 1st, and she said 10 days before!

Is it possible to trade UK shares without a UK address? I do have a UK bank account.

    Thanks.

I use my brother's UK address as my Banking address...If you can set up a similar arrangement with a friend or relative then open a Hargreaves Lansdown Trading Account....All trading and correspondence is then done online!

It's very easy and quick and their fees are minimal.

Hargreaves Lansdown | ISAs, pensions, funds and shares (hl.co.uk)

    Good Luck!

I totally agree with your sentiment "elgenon", but I think with a car that fast you are very likely to hurt others and maybe even yourelf......

  8. Another "Quirk/Idiosyncrasy" of the Samui office is unless you have very good reason to do your Retirement Extension before they will not allow you do it until a maximum of 10 days before your current extension will expire.

In my case I needed to extend 3 weeks before to attend my Son's wedding in the UK 2 years ago.

They wanted proof i.e., copies of my airline tickets and itinerary before they grudgingly allowed me to proceed.

In Bangkok they check your bank book prior to granting your extension to make sure you have had the 800,000 3 months after your previous extension was granted and maintained 400,000 minimum after that.

if you are not following these rules I am sure we will be seeing a future post from you about how you were screwed by immigration and looking for sympathy which I assure you is not available here.

As we all know the IO's all do pretty much as they want on the day and even the same IO will give different rules for different people in my experience at Samui immigration.

I am on a Non "O" visa based on Retirement.

For example to cover myself when doing 90 day reports, I always take photocopies of my updated Bank Book and the Bank Book itself together with my passport (showing a transaction on the day).

I have asked if they need all this on the last three 90 day reports I have done and they said yes.

Others on Samui that I know have said they just take the updated (on the day) Bank Book with their passport ...No photocopies.

Seems like the Rules are followed according to the "Time of The Month" if you get my drift????

In no way am I being sexist, but all the IO's that I ever deal with (now that "Mr. Nasty" went to jail a few years ago for corruption) are female.

  10. I live on Samui and have used Bangkok Airways for 15 years plus!...Never a problem!

Used to think it was a massive rip off, but tried Air Asia and Nok Airways a couple of times!

    Never again!

I am not poor and hopefully never will be!

These people are absolute roasters....nobody is going to do 2 weeks quarantine bar extreme cases. Get that through your thick heads

Funny you should mention "quarantine bar"....I have it on good authority (from a friend currently in quarantine) that Alcohol is strictly forbidden!

Imagine that on top of being locked in your cell 23 hours a day in Solitary Confinement!

    NO THANKS!
