  1. I heard a rumour that Farangs over 60 could get the AZ vaccine at Samui hospital today so I went at 8:30 this morning.

As suspected it was for Thais only and was told I would have to wait and that I would be contacted by sms......They have no idea when!

I am afraid to say you are PR1CK!

    You wrote....

"Does having no mirrors make it unroadworthy(it should as it damgerous when they turn their head and body to check behind or move without checking)

    Having straight through exhaust

Im sure there are many more especially in regard to tyres.

All the RTP would have to do is fine all those that are and they would have enough money to have every officer mobile on a bike within a month, plus save many lives."

Please explain what " Damgerous" and "Im sure" mean?

You are obviously not a biker and anyone who is trained and/or responsible when riding a bike will know not to rely on mirrors alone and always does a look behind before any manoeuvre.

I suggest you take some English Language courses and God Forbid you ever try to ride a Motorbike!

  4. I am from the England and I live on Samui....I can speak conversationally in French and German because I learned them at school and worked in Brussels for a while when I was 16....Six weeks summer holidays before "A levels"...

I even learned some Dutch as I was working in a printing factory in Woluwe  which is both Dutch and French speaking and we were printing posters for a super market called "Pris Bas" like the "Green Glo"  ones with red letters with promotional offers......They were printed in French and Dutch!

I have lived in Thailand for 15 years and speak enough Thai to "Get Around"....Nobody ever corrects me when I try to speak Thai (even though many times I have now realised I may be speaking Isan or Lao dialect......My GF is from Sakon Nakhon).

When I speak in Thai here they are always pleasantly surprised and give me Big Smiles!

I have learned enough Thai to get what I need....Beer, Sex and Food.....But not necessarily in that order....As Eric Morecambe once said.

Good luck with your Thai Language endeavours!

As regards the Ma, maa, etc., I never want or need a horse or a dog!

    Take it easy Pal!

Hite Zero is quite good for an alcohol free beer.  From the writing at the bottom of the can, it looks like it is from Korea.

I have bought it at Rim Ping and Tops.  It may be elsewhere, haven't looked.

    Hite Zero Thai Visa.jpg

I see on the can it says 100% European Aroma.....Well if that means Garlic you can keep it!

Don't get me wrong.....I love Garlic, but in it's place "For Heaven's Sake"!

  6. Keto Diet (Low Carb) is great for rapid weight loss, but hard to stick to if you like candy and snacks.

However, after the first week or so you may lose your sugar/snack cravings.

This is also a great diet/lifestyle for people who have or are at risk of Type 2 Diabetes. There are many reports of people who were Diabetic and after adopting low carb diets were able to give up their meds!

You can drink spirits Whisky, Vodka, etc., and mix with Diet Coke, 7 UP free or other Zero sugar Sodas.

After the first couple of weeks you will be in Ketosis and if you really need a beer San Miguel Light is the best Low Carb option in Thailand (Approx 3g Carbs per small bottle or can).

But you have to be careful to count your carbs so go easy!

I lost 20Kg on this diet.

    Good luck!

As people are pointing out... as soon as the Thai's actually try it, they usually agree that it is delicious. Demand from Thais is slowly increasing, I think its a matter of time before there is a huge explosion of Indian food here in Thailand.

I hope so......I can make my own from authentic Indian recipes, but it's a big effort and takes a long time.

90 day report can be made 7 days before and up to 7 days after so you should be able to do both 16th of June.

Update:   Many thanks for all your replies!

I went to Samui IMO today and spoke with the "Maitre D" who confirmed that with the 800K method of extension you only need to provide 3 months Bank Statements....

When I asked she looked "Puzzled" and said "Don't you remember from last year?"

I just smiled and said "Just checking...Thank you!"

I too am ‘registered’ and booked to receive the vaccine on June 7th.....  I too will only believe that when it happens !!

( I had a PE some years back, so classified that as a respiratory illness in the registration and was able to make the booking on the Mor Promt app - using ID number on the ’non-Thai' Pink ID card)

    Good LucK Pal! ????

Very interesting! I have been getting 1-year extensions since 2015 but I only learned in 2017 that 17 days before the expiration date was "too early", I got rejected then and told to only come 10 days before. In 2016 I also went 17 days before without any problems but that was still in the Nathon office, maybe it mattered.

I live on Koh Phangan and so far always needed to do one or two day trips to Koh Samui for my visa extension matters. Since 2018 I have always been told to come again a few days to a week later to pick up my passport, in the previous years I received it back the same day, either in the afternoon and once (2016) even later in the same morning. In 2020 I pleaded them to still get it back in the same afternoon because of covid constraints and surprisingly succeded, this year I tried it as well but without any luck.

When I picked up my passport last time, a few weeks ago, I asked them (litterally "for a friend" who wanted to know) how early I could usually apply for the next extension. First I only got an empty stare from the lady (not the "usual one" who wasn't there), so I asked "one week? ... two weeks? ... " and she confirmed two weeks.

Just yesterday the new (permanent) Immigration Office on Koh Phangan finally opened and if I am lucky, I will be able to get 1-year extensions from there in the future. But they only offer limited services and it's not that clear yet if 1-year extensions are part of them.

In April 2020 there was a temporary Immigration Office set up for two days here, three weeks before my current extension expired. I prepared everything and tried my luck, but was rejected and sent to Koh Samui, because they only issued 30-day extensions. I called Koh Samui and asked if I could come right now but was told "too early", so I needed to get current bank papers again and also to do a medical check again two weeks later, because after I asked, I was also told that the ones from early April would be outdated...

Well my next 90 day report is Due on 11th June, but my extension is due on July 1st.

I will try and do my extension on 14th so I don't have to do my 90 day report and then go back a few days later to get my extension.

But, you know how they can always make it as difficult for you as they want depending on the day (particularly the plump one) who sometimes smiles and is very pleasant....But, I must admit that is very rare!

Not to rain on your parade, but the CCSA has made a number of public statements in the last week that any foreigners that were actually successful at signing up through the MorProm app will not actually receive jabs in June.

They further emphasized that the app was only intended for Thai Nationals (even if you happen to have a Pink Card).

However, in today's CCSA Briefing, they officially announced that a new app is in the works that will allow foreigners to sign up using only their passport number.

Of course, nothing is etched in stone here in the Magic Kingdom and perhaps you will be lucky enough to slip through the cracks with your June appointment...but I wouldn't count on that. ????

Thank you for your response and please see my edited response above!

I have now registered in person which I did last week and also registered online today just using my passport details.

Unfortunately, I agree with you 100% that the likelihood of me actually getting the vaccine on the 7th of June is about the same as my chance of winning the "Euromillions Lottery" which is ZERO, because I don't do it!

A highly valid counter argument I’d never considered.

US Citizens are forced to pay US tax - in theory they ‘should’ be better looked after by the Missions of foreign countries in which they reside.

While I live in Thailand and avoid paying tax to the British Inland Revenue Department, I am also of the believe that the British Government owe me nothing, its my choice to be here and if I wish to be vaccinated quickly I should be in the UK where I would have already been vaccinated.

US citizens are in a different situation, they still have to pay taxes to the Internal Revenue Service and can’t avoid that wherever they are. As such, they should be afforded the same rights they would be afforded back in the US.

I still consider it an almost impossible logistical nightmare for the US Embassy to vaccinate 50,000 of is citizens in Thailand, twice, with any degree of efficiency.

Well if you earn income in the UK which I do from Rental properties I have to pay tax to HMRC.

Also whilst in practice most UK Expats would get treated free of charge if they returned to the UK, but not legally!

But, the fact is the NHS waiting lists are so long now because of Covid I would rather stay here and pay for any treatment that I may require in the future at a fraction of the cost it would be to go Private in the UK!

And for the record I am due to get my first dose of the AZ Vaccine on June 7th! Believe it when it happens!

I think the only reason I am due to get it ahead of many Thais is because I live on Samui and as usual The Thai Govt is trying to chase Tourist Dollars, Pounds, Euros, Yen, etc., by thinking they can create so called "Herd Immunity" on places such as Samui and Phuket!......As usual everything they do is money orientated!

But the fact is that many Thais are already refusing to get vaccinated through fear! Good for me if that helps me jump the queue, but I fear for their health and consequences for them!

I am over 60 but have none of the underlying conditions mentioned by the Govt.

Thats because most people seem to think that because they are on foreign soil that the Embassy of country they moved away from should be some form of safety net, thats no the role of a foreign mission. So many people completely misunderstand the role of their Embassy which is to protect the interest of the Nation it represents

If receiving a vaccine was so important to me, I’d be home already and would have taken the vaccine.

Why should the UK government vaccinate me in Thailand ahead of all the Thai’s. Should the UK government also distribute vaccines around Thailand for all the British expats around the country? the ones who are now moaning, but would also moan because they’d have to travel to BKK or another location out of their way ?

Should the families of US British nationals living in Thailand also receive the vaccine from the British Embassy ? if not, why not ?

Should the British Government bring in 110,000 doses for the 55,000 British Expats in Thailand, then distribute them to British Expats around Thailand, Wifes ? or other people in the same household ?... perhaps 200,000 doses required ?>>

Or should it work on assisting the Thai government and also lobbying the Thai government to ensure the British Nationals are part of Thailands vaccination efforts?

I do expect things of my Embassy, but only those things considered responsibility of a mission on foreign soil.

I think it completely ridiculous to expect the British Embassy to import vaccines. But, I do fully expect the Mission officers and British Ambassador to strongly lobby the Thai government to ensure that all British Nationals (and all other foreigners) are treated equally and fairly when it comes to receiving Covid-19 vaccines and all ‘other issues’.

Well I still pay income tax in the UK after Living here over 11 years!

If I go back I would not qualify for NHS "Treatment" for the first 6 months of repatriation and also if I stay here My State Pension will be frozen assuming I can get it when/if I make it to 67 YO?

I earned good money, but paid huge amounts of Tax and NI!

I am self insured in Thailand (will not pay ridiculous Expat Premiums!) ....

If the SH!TE Hits The Fan ....So be it!

Unfortunately it seems like people sometimes get different answers.

Between one and two weeks before, i.e. your 10 days before, is when they normally wish us to apply for an extension, even that you officially should be able to apply one month in advance, I think it's even 45 days in advance at some places. I however always show up little in advance, or the last 90-days report if it's due 3-4 weeks before expiry of stay, and check if there are any changes in documentation demands, i.e. having their required documents list, and also ask for an application form, as they don't accept a downloaded and self-printed form, as you on top of page two need to write your email address, and that need to be on their pre-printed dotted line, not just after a handwritten "E-mail: "; I've tried it and got refused, I needed to re-write the whole form, exactly the same apart from their pre-printed "E-mail:............."...????

When I a few times, twice in 15 years I think, came three weeks before my extension expired, I got a bad look and was told that I came too early, but they did renew my permission to stay. Therefore I made it a habit to apply around two weeks before. However, two years ago when I came the just about 10 days before, the lady said: "Next year you better come a month before!"...????

Next year, and that was last year, I was in doubt if I should show up early, but I came only two weeks before, no problem...????

    Thanks KhunPer,

Like I said it depends on too many variables even at the same IMO and even with the "Plump One"????

To be fair it must be a "Soul Destroying Job" ....So many Farangs turn up with the "Wrong Forms"  or something missing!....Often the Farangs have a poor grasp of English and you cannot expect the IMO staff to understand their poor English? .....Or any other European language?

The British Empire is Long Dead, but like it or not it English is one of the Main Business languages spoken today Worldwide!

I went to Krung Thai Bank today in Lamai to ask them how long it would take to get 12 month's back statements if I need them!...I could not make them understand and so I gave up!....The people in Nathon KTB where my account is all speak good English and I never had a problem there!

I know I should be able to speak More Thai than I do,  but on a "Tourist Island" it might be expected that a Govt Bank would employ at least one or two English speakers in each branch????

Many thanks for all your input on this subject!
