  1. I stopped reading after page 7...and jumped to the current page 30...I nominate puukao....has anyone mentioned him yet? Irreverant...mockery...always some fantastic over the top exagerated comment...but IMHO biting sarcasm with relentless wit and keen observation. Puukao...you are da man...I love it when you post...self deprecating but can be touching and sincere...randomly...to puukao! King of the weirdest!

    You didn't miss much.

    Puukao is in, thanks.

  2. sipi, just had a look at your list, does it omit StreetCowboy in error?

I'm sure he has been nominated.

Also, a not to Mr 36 Khun 36, smokie by any other name, can we sneek him in, kicking and screaming down the aisle?

    Others have expressed strong support.

Smokie has been nominated and has opted out. Along with a few more of us.

Can you imagine if Joan of Arc had opted out? Or Moses?

"Oi! Moses! I've got a job fer ye"

"No' interested, boss. That's no' ma scene, man"

"You're mission, Jim, should you choose to accept it..."

    "Nah, I'm busy"

Save the modesty for the acceptance speech

    SC

It is called making a choice.

"Would you like a cup of tea?"

    "No thank you".

  3. Here are some thread statistics which some will find incredibly boring, others will find mildly interesting, and some will probably want to wring my neck for pointing out. smile.png

    As of 3:20 PM 12/11/15, post #286:

    286 total posts

    = 278 net posts

    40 members (excluding moderators) posted.

6 posters contributed 178 (64%) of the posts.

12 posters contributed 218 (79%) of the posts.

This does raise the question whether a minimum number of votes is needed to validate this election? I note that for the 2014 Poster of the Year election only 629 votes in total were cast. I think everyone will agree that there was a relatively higher level of enthusiasm and interest in last year's election than appears to be the case so far this year. What will happen if only 50 people vote this year, and the winner receives 26 votes? Will that person still be crowned Poster of the Year?

Hi Gecko. I guess someone with one vote wins if the others get none. Voting is voluntary, as is posting, as is turning on ones computer.

Up to everyone how or if they want to contribute. As I said earlier, I don't care but right now I have some time on my hands to help out.

  4. POTY 2015 Updates: December 11

    1. Operation Prune: A Quota System

On behalf of the Select Committee I propose the introduction of a quota system as follows:

1.1. A minimum of four (4) LGBT candidates be selected. Since neither the Select Committee nor I have the expertise needed to manage this aspect of Operation Prune, I appoint Mr JT as Senior LGBT Consultant. I would also like to suggest Mr JT takes on the role of LGBT Marketing Manager. I encourage him to promote POTY 2015 in the appropriate sub-forums.

1.2. A minimum of two (2) women be selected. As desirable as it would be to have more, I fear that two (2) is likely to be the most we will get. Furthermore, I recommend that NancyL be granted candidacy prior to Operation Prune.

1.3. The WASP issue. I consider that past contests were excessively WASP-dominated. Very many former candidates were white, heterosexual men aged forty or over. Of these, a disproportionate number were middle class and/or college educated. I propose placing a cap on the number of WASP candidates. For the time being I suggest no more than ten (10) heterosexual white men over the age of forty five (45) be selected.

1.4. A minimum of two (2) non-whites. For the sake of simplicity I propose distinguishing only between whites and non-whites. This category could include Australian Aborigines, Australians of aboriginal descent, Native and African Americans, Hispanics and Asians.

1.5. A minimum of two (2) non-Christians. For the sake of simplicity I propose distinguishing only between Christians (Catholics and Protestants, for example) and non-Christians. This category could include Muslims, Buddhists and Jews.

    ===

I believe this proposed quota system will steer the contest away from the WASP-dominated affairs we have seen in the past; I believe too I have laid the foundations for a model which will engender greater transparency and fairness.

    Feel free to comment.

So where are we falling short OP?

Other than the two ladies, two non-whites and less than 30 hetrosexual men over 45. Can we assume we already have two non-Christians?

  5. If the limiting factor is that you can only have 20 options in a poll, why don't we just have a couple of semi-final polls first?

Or just rank the nominees by 'likes per post' and take the top 20 through to the next round?

Or set up a poll on another site that allows more options?

Yes SB I agree entirely. It is a poll decided entirely by menbers.

I suggest we cap it at 40 (let's face it, we have had over 4000 views) and divide them randomly into two groups. Then run two heats like any other race.

There are really some excellent shots. It was very hard not to "like" every one of them.

    Cheers sipi,really appreciate that fella!

Am nothing to do with this competition really, just trying to help Tywais out a bit.

For the past five years, people have been chomping at the bit to post a pic in the calendar competition, but this year the numbers

have drastically dropped, and I am not sure why!

Now I feel guilty. I bought a new DSLR a few months back and haven't really tried it out yet.

    Next year..
