  1. In any case, a one sided street fight is not going to be the end of tourism in Thailand. Every time something bad happens its the end!

You have to be a paranoid and hysterical person to cancel your holiday because of isolated incidents like this.

Now a bunch of posts will claim its not isolated! Thailand is getting worse by the day! I beg to differ, although its not a 100% safe and cozy paradise but make a reasonable comparison to other travel destinations please.

In my home country people of all ages are being beaten up and robbed every week, doesn't make it dangerous per say.

  2. Looks like I'm in the right country. I like chubby girls! tongue.png

Thai Food, is heavy salted and also heavy sugared, most drinks contain spoons of sugar or syrup....

Being Western it's so easy to pile on the pounds over here, we just have to watch what we eat....

    Agreed!

Farangs are so quick to blame McDonald's or KFC for being unhealthy. Thai food is very unhealthy yet farangs get all excited when they see noodles an vegetables. Thai food is often fried, has lots of sugar and salt added an vegetables lose their nutritious value once you start cooking them. Those have to be eaten raw.

A plate of pad thai has more calories than a Big Mac.

Vegetables have to be eaten raw? You just make stuff up and post it online or who has lied to you about this?

  3. Asheron the two are kind of intertwined no?

And raising a kid is more of an anthropological endeavour.

    Intertwined how exactly?

"anthropology draws and builds upon knowledge from the social and biological sciences as well as the humanities and physical sciences."

    http://www.americananthro.org/

Hate to copy and paste but of course a study of human culture and behavior is going to have a biological component.

  4. There are too many bigoted, oppressive, backward and downright offensive opinions on here to get into yet another debate regarding what I can only see as a positive outcome for common sense and keeping a family unit together....

Congratulations to the Family and to the legal system which avoided bigotry and backwards thinking.

So you think a child being "created" for two blokes is in a child's best interest..?..

I see nothing wrong in planning for an enjoying a happy family.... I know many happy couples who've 'created' a family (IVF), usually more conventional as Husband and Wife...

Having read the media reports and interviews I have no doubt that the Childs best interest will always be closest to the hearts of her parents.

The only issue I foresee is when bigoted opinions are forced upon the family - This is not the fault of the happy family, but the fault of those few in society who have lacked social development, remained stuck in the past and feel the need to force their opinions on an innocent family who are causing no harm to anyone else.

Of course - this debate is just that, a debate on an anonymous internet forum:

Transom: You are a respected member of TV.com and I have enjoyed many of your posts in the past - In fact I remember received a verbal bo!!oking from you regarding a tasteless comment I made a few years ago. It rather surprises me that you are not more open minded about this topic.

Its perfectly acceptable to be a motor-head and also tolerate things which may otherwise conflict with the motor-head stereotype !! rolleyes.gif

It is clear that this child will grow up in a very loving environment - many children around the World would clearly be very lucky to be given the chance to grow up in such a family.

This topic is re-hashing old arguments heavily debated in this linked thread below.

Biology is quite simple and so is evolution for that matter. I'm pretty sure nature knows better than "socially developed societies". In the so called "socially developed societies" you now have really brain dead stuff like "none binary flowergenders".

Nature and evolution knows better and socially developed societies are wrong in every sense? Ok my friend first step throw out your computer, make a set of clothes out of leaves and branches then walk over to you neighbor and have a fight to the death over the food in his fridge, oh and kidnap his wife as well and drag her to your cave. Then you can make a baby the natural way! The kid can grow up in the cave and be happy, not being subjected to the horrors of modern life, like the prospect of same sex parents.

One logical theory might be socially developed societies are part of evolution.

  5. The whole quality tourist thing and the notion that Thailand should rid its "cheap destination" image is laughable. I have yet to see them even construct a highway properly, to use a basic example. And moving right on you have immigration, traffic and public transportation, service in hotels restaurants etc etc etc and so forth. A first class destination requires first class amenities. You cant eat the cake before you've baked it.

  6. I'm very glad I don't live anywhere near this bloke and his eighty disease ridden, mangy curs. The stray dog problem is bad enough in this Country without individuals such as this feeding the bloody things. 50K a month, I'll bet there's many a Thai orphanage that could do with that sort of money rather than this bloke wasting money on these creatures.

OK I know I'll get slack from bleeding heart dog lovers for this, but I hate the damn things.

Was going to write a similar post. Well said.

"Oh dogs are so cute and nice, never mind the orphanage kids or the poor kids literally on the streets begging in Bkk"

  7. So this is thee 1st world system you all tell about your civilized system you wish was in Thailand !!!!!! What a joke

It actually is, in a modern first world country you cant let emotions dictate how the justice system should work.

How does it benefit society when you punish people out of spite and anger? It makes you and the other keyboard warriors happy but thats about it.

The goal is to reduce crime for the benefit of society as a whole and the key to that is foremost rehabilitation. We cant waive Breiviks human rights just because we feel like it.

  8. That basically means you are so unattractive you have to shower somebody with money just to enjoy their company. That concept is so sad it almost makes me cry.

I've had that problem all my life, not everyone can be attractive.

Luckily I've always had enough money for the shower.

Im not just talking about looks, attractive can also mean charisma and so forth.
  9. I wouldn't brag about how little you give your girlfriend. Are you that poor, or just that cheap?

I wouldnt brag about how much i give her either. That basically means you are so unattractive you have to shower somebody with money just to enjoy their company. That concept is so sad it almost makes me cry.
  10. We split the bills.

Im the kind of person who would pay money to be left alone. Will never grasp the concept of paying for company, unless its a prostitute for a couple of hours.

You must really be a cheery guy to live with. Different strokes for different folks.
Im not gonna disagree with you heh.

"I don't pay my wife anything. I was introduced to her by another Thai lady who is a friend of mine (not a girlfriend) in the UK. Her advice to me was do not give her money, for example like a salary. She told me that if a problem arises then by all means help her out. But to pay her money just for the sake of it is wrong, and just sends out the wrong messages. 10 years on, we are still going strong."

    NickJ

"My Gf works and has her own money. I prefer it that way. The salary thing would make me feel like Im paying her to be with me. Thai guys dont pay salaries "

Thankfully, my wife is with me because she loves me. I didn't hire a hooker.

Surely the term "refreshingly honest" implies a new and innovative approach to a situation?

The OP's Post offers neither; it's simply a rather clumsy attempt to disguise the long used Thai system of "Mia Noi", or more specifically in this case "Mia Chao", a much lower category of sexual servitude (without the usually significant aspect of respect for the individual conferred by the "status" of "Mia Noi").

    Patrick

    We split the bills.

Im the kind of person who would pay money to be left alone. Will never grasp the concept of paying for company, unless its a prostitute for a couple of hours.

A woman taking a regular weekly/monthly salary in return for her company is a prostitute on retainer and, as such, not worthy of the description, "girlfriend"

    LOLz

Half the guys in this thread so far have said something like if you give her money regularly, she is a prostitute.

Didnt seem to register with any of you to even consider there might be kids involved

I wonder how this makes you different to the other half that have replied in this thread

I said nothing of the kind. I differentiated between the company of a gf and a prostitute, even if there is money involved in both cases.

  12. Oh how I hate this silly, dangerous nonsense.

I feel like a grumpy old man but I dont want to be splashed with water while riding my motorbike, its uncomfortable and unsafe and just an inconvenience.

On top of that everything is closed.

Glad other people are enjoying themselves though.

Splashed I can handle, but a full force bucket of water, about 3 kilos worth catapulted into my face from a moving vehicle going the opposite way with a combined speed of 40 kph approximately = deadly.

I stay in, stock up on groceries to get me through the week.

    Yeah your right.

Im staying in too. Eating noodles and watching tv. Living the dream!

  13. I dont really reflect much on the politics. What I find more disturbing is the fact that some people are so quick in seeing these massive negative implications when it comes to the prospect of two parents being of the same sex. And then they deny the fact that they by doing this invariably assign gay people negative traits as a collective.
