I found it reasonably clear and can understand it. One good thing I found is that it has covered the basics and is not specific to any one person.

Anybody can ask specific questions that Mike may or may not be able to answer. However there sib nearly 12 months before anything actually takes place and for specific answers that Mike is unable to answer, there is the revenue office in each province who should be able to give a sensible reply.

Mike is obviously trying to make sense of this but I fear we are as usual talking about Thai administration that never work out the details before implimenting a new law. I doubt any of the district areas or even the main office knows what to do even now with 10 months to go before this hits the fan.

I need better details on all the allowed deductions for instance. Nobody can live here on 120k a YEAR???

Thailand has Thaksin and USA has Trump. Birds of a feather working the system. Both belong behind bars.

I agree about Taksin but Biden should be in a care home. Trump will stop the woke and stand up for America. If he makes money while he is doing it is will be no different to any other POTUS. The UK needs a leader, not another "Human Rights" lawyer and a bunch of half wits.

  3. Anyone notice the irony in this? After MFP were isolated despite getting by far the most votes in the election Thaksin's renamed old party get leadership of the government enableing his return from Dubai. Then, just when he is nice and comfy in a hospital suite he is charged with the very offence that MFP have been villified for wanting to reform.

You couldn't make it up - Amazing!

  4. One thing is for sure there are a lot more fatties in Thailand than 20 years ago, thanks to US fast food mostly. Isn't it funny how you see fat people eating while walking and not thin people (except ice cream)?

It takes all kinds to make the world go around.

  5. There was a fancy guitar shop in Promenade (next to Fashion Islend) in Yaowai, Ramindra Road on the pink monorail line. If you are a long way away you could ring the information desk and get the shop phone number.

Another Section of the code that people should take note of, in particular landlords who derive income from renting out property in their home country and/or landlords renting out property inside Thailand:

SECTION 41: A taxpayer who in the previous tax year derived assessable income under Section 40 from an employment, or from business carried on in Thailand, or from business of an employer residing in Thailand, or from a property situated in Thailand shall pay tax in accordance with the provisions of this Part, whether such income is paid within or outside Thailand.

A resident of Thailand who in the previous tax year derived assessable income under Section 40 from an employment or from business carried on abroad or from a property situated abroad shall, upon bringing such assessable income into Thailand, pay tax in accordance with the provisions of this Part.

Any person staying in Thailand for a period or periods aggregating 180 days or more in any tax year shall be deemed a resident of Thailand.

Income earned from businesses in Thailand should be taxable, just like all the 49% "owned" companies in Thailand that pay tax here.

  7. A good and informative bit of news that we have been waiting for.

I need to study this more carefully but it seems harsh to say the least at first glance. Where are expats retirees suposed to get the money from if not abroad? All of this money goes into the Thai economy and it looks like another bullet in the foot for Thailand. Who can live here for US$4,450 a year when 600,000 baht less 15% tax looks like a life of minimalist sobriety and thrift.

most of them have no choice as they cannot meet the financial requirements for a 12 month extension or refuse to

Some of the financial rules are difficult for some to adhere to. Not everyone has a private "pension" that pays a regular amount every month or every year (like dividend paymnets) but might otherwise meet all the criteria. Money in a Thai bank not making innterest is another consideration just as is  land-property ownership. Living long term here is not going to be easy with new taxation on all money from overseas and health insurance for the over 65s could simply make moving elsewhere in SE Asia the only option.

In a joint operation, local authorities, in collaboration with the police, conducted a surprise raid on a Tomboy bar in Pattaya, discovering over a hundred tourists violating closing time regulations. Upon urine tests, 18 individuals tested positive for drug use, leading to legal action.

Above is the picture caption. Doesn't anybody check the articles for mistakes before publishing?

ordinarily resident is living in the UK for 6 months - not ordinarily resident is out of the country for 6 months, exceptions exist like i mentioned above, they rarely check anything as they have no means to do so, if you have a NI number and a UK address then you are good to go

Exactly, my best mate did this about three years ago and was treated for cancer. He had lived here for about 30 years and never more than a few weeks in the UK every year. He had a NI number and an address. Sadly he died in April this year.

  11. The old claim "There is no prostitution in Thailand" is wearing a bit thin. That coupled with entry tax on top of departure tax and the threat of foreign income tax on anyone who stays longer than six months in a year does harm to all tourisism. If you add tour bus crashes, ferry sinkings, taxi scams, general rip offs and double pricing at government parks it's Amazing there are still any tourists.

I love all the predicted income forecasts we get from the various tourist comittees, do they throw dice to decide how may billions the latest brainwave will make.
