And self isolate arrogant  farang style and go out clubbing, shopping  drinking  and whoring I think you mean

No, you are incorrect...I don't think they go shopping...

But I am sure there are, or will be, plenty of minor symptom infected people that are selfish enough to go out and do what they do, with no regard that they could be infecting others.

Don't Thailand use those new PCR tests that can detect omicron without doing whole genome sequencing.

That could maybe save them some time.

Not in Chiang Mai - all tests had to be sent to BKK for Omicron testing - and took 3 days.

...and test numbers is probably at a reasonable currently, and when the testing needs grow, I think they will just assume everyone is Omicron...

Apologies for singling out a rather minor detail from a very interesting post, but I wonder what the 18,000 THB's worth of medication consisted of?

    No problem.

I don't recall all the meds, but I know that the biggest medication cost was 12,000 baht and was Favipiravir. Some of the other costs were "medical supplies" and "diagnostic imaging" on top of the "packaged medical charge" of 3,800 which was the COVID test - and I assume that covers the BKK lab tests to determine the strain, but I am not sure. They may add that on the bill at exit.

I questioned that he had not tested positive yet, so why all the meds. Doctor responded that they are certain he has COVID so best to start meds. I said, then why send him back for the rest of the day to potentially infect others if you are certain....no response.

With the costs and consequences of getting infected here, this virus will blow through Thailand with super speed, as most will not seek medical attention unless being really sick.

There is that, bit I think the biggest risk is the people who contract Omicron with minimal or no symptoms and spread it without knowing.

...and the 3 jabs that my staff received...did not seem to help much.

The speed that these infections went from mild symptom to very sick was a day.

    care to elaborate

    ?

I mean the Omicron strain testing that happens in BKK, which took 3 days to return the result.

If they get thousands of cases in the next few weeks, and want to Omicron test each case, I think they will be overwhelmed.

At some point soon, they will just declare every case likely Omicron.

The PCR test wait was already 8 hours, then 3 more days for Omicron results - that's just not realistic given the speed that Omicron travels.

I would like to see your "plenty of sources", I just heard or read about conclusions from Australian, South-Africanand a UK research, even the OMS and Fauci said omicron is less deadly, less agresive...And never I read 70x more conagious, I heard 3x more contagious...70x makes casi non-sense ...

There you go Champ..."plenty of sources"...enjoy.
