  1. I assume that you were given a 30-day "under consideration" stamp in your passport? Such stamps and the requirement to return after 4 weeks for your passport to be stamped in for the remaining extension period are normal practices in the case of marriage extensions. They are not unique to Jomtien.

In theory your passport should be stamped for the whole year on the spot for retirement extensions since these don't need to be referred up the line for final approval as in the case of marriage extensions. In the case of Jomtien, however, I gather that your passport is retained overnight for stamping purposes.

Yes i have a stamp under consideration the passport though was handed back to me there and then, i then return in 30 days for final stamp

  2. Thanks everyone for replies to my questions, yes my non O is a single entry, as for photos of us around the house, i will arrange for someone to come and assist us in that regard, (i don't have a camera with a timer) if and when, i get a year extension i forgot to add in my opener, i am planning on visiting my daughter in Phoenix AZ. later in the year i take this would be allowable with the extension?

And I got married here in Thailand Sattahip, and have a Kor Ror 2 dated at the time of marriage 2nd June 2009 i presume this would be accepted by the officials, at emigration!

And Joe do i still need proof of residence along with all this other stuff?

    Max.....

After you get your extension stamp after the 30 day under consideration period you can apply for a single re-entry permit (1000 baht) or a multiple (3800 baht).

Immigration may want an updated Kor Ror 2 to prove you are still married. Your wife can get it at any Amphoe by showing her ID card. They will print it out, stamp it and sign it for a fee of 20 baht.

Unless you are living where your wife's house book is for you will need proof of residence.

OK ubonjoe so i need two filled in TM7's, with passport photo's for retirement extension based on marriage, but not mention retirement on TM7 form as reason for extension, have updated Kor2 in Sattahip today 10 bht, so now need the proof of residence plus all the other stuff, then can apply for extension, i take it if the thirty day approval process goes passed my non O expiry date, i am still covered visa wise, or is there something else i need to do?

    Max...

You don't want to put retirement or they might want you to show 800k baht instead of 400k baht.

The under consideration stamp allows you stay in the country until your extension is approved and you get the one year stamp.

A rental agreement would be good for proof of residence.

OK Joe thanks a lot, i don't have a rental agreement so will have to get certificate of residence, as i live with my wife in a house (in her name) as a resident, i had not thought about the 800k bht angle

I take we have to go through this performance every year?

  5. This has probably been covered many times before, but being the worry-guts that i am, i want to get it right, i have a non-O visa from Thai Embassy in London that was issued on the 3rd Dec.and thinking of going to emigration in ChomThien (i live in Sattahip) on tues 10th Feb 2015 for my first extension, ( is this too early) i will be applying for an extension of 12 months based on marriage to a Thai

I have filled in TM.7 form stating my request for a 365 day extension is for retirement based on marriage to Thai national, would this be OK?

I have the necessary 400,000 bht in my Thai saving bank which was sent from London this was deposited 8/12/2014 so should cover the two months needed

so what else do i need,

    Book banks updated

    Letter from Bank

My passport with copies of main page, plus entry stamp with non-O visa

Copy of TM6 departure card with entry stamp

    2 Passport photos

Wife's House papers, and I/D card

Marriage certificate in Thai. with copies

Hope i have covered everything, if i have'nt please let me know, any advise is appreciated

    Regards Max

  6. I have heard from some Thais that we farrang actually smell of milk, and often remark to Thais that have spent some time in the west, that they smell like farrang how true this is i don't know maybe a load of Thai cobblers.

    Anyone else heard of this?

  7. Both EVA and Thai moved to Terminal 2 around June this year, so that is why you would still have used Terminal 3 if you flew earlier.

Although newer and modern, it is a much longer walk to T2 departure gates. There is even a Heston Blumenthal restaurant/bar there, which stands out from the normal shops you see at UK airports.

As Loptr stated, there are apps if you have a smart phone. EVA's one (EVA Mobile), is pretty good, giving Timetable, Flight status, and even allowing you to check in.

Thanks again everyone for your valuable information that's what makes this site worthwhile, i have downloaded EVA on mobile and as posters have stated can see and book on smart phone.

The only problem i can see would be i usually book through one of the travel sites eg.Opodo.Kayak, etc,so unless they have an app. info on smart phone may not work, but we shall see when time comes in early Dec. (i hope)

  8. Well it has been T3 the last 14 times i have been to Thailand and definitely Jan/Feb this year using mainly EVA or Thai although i think there was talk about about about using T2.

T2 was i think mainly short haul Europe etc.

Might be for the best that you print out the entire itinerary and read through it carefully, Max.

Make sure that you're travelling on the right date too.

Thanks everybody that answered my query, i will post again nearer the date i travel am in the process of selling my house which should be wrapped up by the 28th Nov. that is if the solicitors stopped dragging their <deleted> and get moving

So at the moment have nothing positive to go on!

  9. Maybe some one has experience of booking a flight online but does'nt have the printer to print out ticket, if i take note of booking ref. etc. would that be sufficient at the checkin desk at LHR

I am in the process of moving to Thailand with my peesed-ning (wife) and have boxed up PC and printer plus the accessories, and will move into a guesthouse until have money from house sale is in my bank in UK, i know i can go to public library and used pc/printer there, but wondered if i need to bother, if a simple booking ref.number would bring up all the relevant details

Hope someone has done this before, and also hope i have asked the right section this time!

  10. The Pattaya immigration office no longer does the change to non-O visa, but they do issue the various types extension of stay, including the marriage or retirement extension for which you apparently plan to apply.

Yes Maestro that is exactly what i plan to do, so maybe i did myself a favour by going for the non-o for £50, if what you say is correct, and i have no reason to doubt it, i can get my extension in Pattaya instead of the long jaunt to Bangkok.

Thanks a lot for your input it has helped me a lot

    Regards maxc

  11. Yes, it makes a difference. Arriving with a tourist visa, you would have to pay THB 2,000 for the change to non-O visa before you could get your ono-year extension. As you will arrive now with a non-O visa, you can apply straight for the extension during the last 30 days of the 90-day permission to stay you get when you arrive in Thailand. GBP 25.00 more spent in London and THB 2,000 saved in Thailand, as well as saving an extra trip to the immigration office. Depending on where you are living in Thailand, the trip for the change of visa could have been quite long, as some offices are not permitted to make this change.

Thanks for the clarification, my house is in Sattahip so i assume the nearest office would be pattaya, which i think i have read TVF do not issue these extensions anymore, hope i am wrong!

  12. OK got the non-o today in London...and to pay for this they have doubled the fee for single entry to £50 even though the application form still states £25...

If you paid GBP 25.00 for your last visa it was a single-entry tourist visa. Look in your passport to verify this.

    Visa Fees
    Visa Type Fee (£)
    1. Tourist (per entry) 25.00
    2. Transit (per entry) 20.00
    3. Non-Immigrant (3 Month/ Single Entry) 50.00
    4. Non-Immigrant (1 Year/ Multiple Entries) 125.00
    5. Non-Immigrant (3 Year/ Multiple Entries) 250.00
    6. Non-Immigrant O-A (3 Month/ Single Entry) 50.00
    7. Non-Immigrant O-A (1 Year/ Multiple Entries) 125.00

I think you are right it says in passport Non-Immigrant O S which was for ninety days so it seems, i may have paid more than i needed! will this make any difference when i go for the year stamp at the end of the three months, based on marriage?

Sorry if i have miss-lead anybody

  13. OK got the non-o today in London, the visa section has graduated from the basement and is now on ground floor and seems smaller than when it was in the basement, so well crushed in,the reason being i think, is that there is a Thai passport section crammed into the same small space.

The front door is opened via inter-com. except from 11-12am slot when the queue of people coming for returned visa stamped passports stretches out onto the pavement outside, and this was before 11am, with other people trying to get inside to present their application forms having to push their way through, complete shambles, and to pay for this they have doubled the fee for single entry to £50 even though the application form still states £25.

So anyone presenting an application in London go well before the 11am rush for passport pickups!

  14. OK a great thanks everybody that posted to my questions they are a great help in clarifying things, sometimes i am a little wary posting as 1) they probably have all been posted many times before 2) I might be missing the stark staring obvious, but sometimes these things will only show up after a few visa requests, so it is the experience of you guys that are the guiding light! as for age i am well past 50 so there is no problems there.

Will be traveling to the Thai embassy in London on Monday, to apply for a non-o so if i get problems i will let you know, i will have to look up opening hours, as if i remember rightly it is a tight slot time wise.

Keep up the good work, this site to someone like me, and many others i'm sure, is invaluable.

    Regards maxc

  15. Not problem to pass on the link to the customs department website.

You will apply for the non-o based upon marriage. Do not mention retirement on the application form or you would not get it at the embassy. You will be staying with or visiting your wife.

You will need copies of your marriage certificate, wife's house book and ID card attached to it.

Ubonjoe thanks again for your help, I have passed on your link, and have another query! i presume when i land at swampy hopefully with non-o eagerly clutched in hand, that they would want to see a return flight ticket, even though i intend retiring here after applying for an o-a? based on marriage, so would not require the return ticket

  16. Seems as if then, if i understand correctly you have to pay double ie. another card for thai wife, which makes it not so attractive!

what is a PE visa by the way?

    maxc

I would like clarification on a couple of points,

The Elite card is issued only in Thailand, on what basis ie. non-O or O-A retirement visa based on marriage to Thai or could you apply on 30 stamp on arrival

Would you still need the required money 400,000bht in Thai bank, based on retirement visa based on marriage

Does it cover spouse in the benefits on this Elite card ie above mentioned Thai wife

I have looked for these points on the Elite website but cannot find any info regarding this, other than wife not covered which is not all that clearly laid out.

Sorry if i have missed something obvious here but having trawled through most comments i can't see anything relating to this

Thanks for any assistance regarding this.

    Maxc

You don't need to be on any particular visa (or visa exempt) to apply for the membership.

Just go to the Thailand Elite office, apply, wait for approval, pay once approved, wait for the card and welcome package to be delivered, go for the PE visa (assisted by Thailand Elite staff), and there you go...

As a Thailand Elite member you don't need to keep any deposit in the bank to receive the PE visa.

Thai wife is not covered in the benefits.

A foreign wife can be a member with a family membership.

    smile.png

So again if i understand correctly not having to keep 400k in thai bank and paying 500k for Elite cards if my maths is correct, you would be be paying 100k for for 5yr no hassle visa, and as for paying i will transfer a lot more that to thai bank, so this is an option i would consider.

And again what difference is a PE visa to an Elite visa?

  19. Thanks ubonjoe and issangeorge and others also mod for putting my post in correct slot i have taken note! the site pointed out by ubanjoe is brilliant all the import answers are there,so much so i will pass it on to Anglo/Pacific for future ref. for anyone travelling to Thailand (if this is allowed by mod) so to sum up if it is my wife

(my pis-ed ning) doing the move from UK to LOS the second hand household goods will not attract duty, so therefore a three month non-o visa should be OK before changing to marriage/retirement visa after 2.5 months with the necessary funds in Thai bank for two months, this would be classed as a single entry visa correct?

The form for a non-o would be the "Standard Application Form" i presume, and the box asking for duration of stay would be what? "retirement"or three months entered, until i get official marriage/retirement for twelve months

The box "Purpose Of Current Visit" would be retirement,or long stay?proof of which would be marriage certificate

Sorry for being so naive about this but i want to insure i get form filled in correctly, before presenting to Consulate/Thai Embassy" in London

    Regards Maxc

  20. I daresay this question has arisen many times before, so my apologizes everytime i try to find info on the internet it turns out dated many years before so has probably changed.

I am about to apply for an "O" visa in London.

Is a year long visa better than a 90day i know it costs more, also as i am shipping a few personal effects via "anglo pacific" and as far as i can see, one of the customs requirement is a resident visa valid for one year, so presumably i must go for the one year option, does anyone have experience of this?

Can someone direct me to a site for the correct PDF printable forms for this purpose there seems to be so many and i want make sure i get the right one.

Do i have to show a return air ticket for this visa, even though i intend to retire in Thailand with my Thai wife who will be returning to Thailand with me,or indeed do i need an air ticket at all?

I am sorry for sounding a bit naive about this, and sights such TV offer a lot of common sense and help, while some posters trying to be helpful, offer different opinions and unfortunately end up just making the whole thing more confusing (for me anyrate)

    Hope someone can help

    Regards Maxc
