  1. Seems as if then, if i understand correctly you have to pay double ie. another card for thai wife, which makes it not so attractive!

what is a PE visa by the way?

I would like clarification on a couple of points,

The Elite card is issued only in Thailand, on what basis ie. non-O or O-A retirement visa based on marriage to Thai or could you apply on 30 stamp on arrival

Would you still need the required money 400,000bht in Thai bank, based on retirement visa based on marriage

Does it cover spouse in the benefits on this Elite card ie above mentioned Thai wife

I have looked for these points on the Elite website but cannot find any info regarding this, other than wife not covered which is not all that clearly laid out.

Sorry if i have missed something obvious here but having trawled through most comments i can't see anything relating to this

Thanks for any assistance regarding this.

You don't need to be on any particular visa (or visa exempt) to apply for the membership.

Just go to the Thailand Elite office, apply, wait for approval, pay once approved, wait for the card and welcome package to be delivered, go for the PE visa (assisted by Thailand Elite staff), and there you go...

As a Thailand Elite member you don't need to keep any deposit in the bank to receive the PE visa.

Thai wife is not covered in the benefits.

A foreign wife can be a member with a family membership.

  3. Thanks ubonjoe and issangeorge and others also mod for putting my post in correct slot i have taken note! the site pointed out by ubanjoe is brilliant all the import answers are there,so much so i will pass it on to Anglo/Pacific for future ref. for anyone travelling to Thailand (if this is allowed by mod) so to sum up if it is my wife

(my pis-ed ning) doing the move from UK to LOS the second hand household goods will not attract duty, so therefore a three month non-o visa should be OK before changing to marriage/retirement visa after 2.5 months with the necessary funds in Thai bank for two months, this would be classed as a single entry visa correct?

The form for a non-o would be the "Standard Application Form" i presume, and the box asking for duration of stay would be what? "retirement"or three months entered, until i get official marriage/retirement for twelve months

The box "Purpose Of Current Visit" would be retirement,or long stay?proof of which would be marriage certificate

Sorry for being so naive about this but i want to insure i get form filled in correctly, before presenting to Consulate/Thai Embassy" in London

  4. I daresay this question has arisen many times before, so my apologizes everytime i try to find info on the internet it turns out dated many years before so has probably changed.

I am about to apply for an "O" visa in London.

Is a year long visa better than a 90day i know it costs more, also as i am shipping a few personal effects via "anglo pacific" and as far as i can see, one of the customs requirement is a resident visa valid for one year, so presumably i must go for the one year option, does anyone have experience of this?

Can someone direct me to a site for the correct PDF printable forms for this purpose there seems to be so many and i want make sure i get the right one.

Do i have to show a return air ticket for this visa, even though i intend to retire in Thailand with my Thai wife who will be returning to Thailand with me,or indeed do i need an air ticket at all?

I am sorry for sounding a bit naive about this, and sights such TV offer a lot of common sense and help, while some posters trying to be helpful, offer different opinions and unfortunately end up just making the whole thing more confusing (for me anyrate)

    Hope someone can help

    Regards Maxc

  5. This is my first posting on this excellant site, so hopefully i am posting in the correct forum, my intentioned are this, on selling my house in London, i intend to retire in Thailand on a marriage visa having been married to a Thai Lady for 6 years, we already have a house in Sattahip which we have been visiting every year on the normal 30 day visa

Last time i was there we had dinner with an expat, and he told me he still has a UK bank account and his pension is paid into this account which he withdraws from ATM's incurring the usual fees, which seemed a bit dopey to me, he has not informed the UK government of his moving permantly to Thailand, and was adament you did'nt need to, i told him i was under the impression this was illegal and he should have informed the UK government, and got his pension paid to a Thai bank, thus having it frozen on the point of contact.

Now my query is this, since i am on the point of retiring as before mentioned, do i just leave the UK without informing the UK government and draw money from a Halifax "Clarity" credit card via ATM, which does not charge a fee, other than the ATM charge which i believe at the moment is £1.50, this card has has a direct debit set up by me, thus incurring no interest charge, is this a feasable/legal arrangement, or is it better to get my pension paid into my Thai bank, thus being frozen on the spot by UK, and not getting the huge yearly increases we get, which last year my increase amounted to about £2 LOL

I await someone who can enlighten me, i do not want to have to return to the UK at a later date to inform the government i no longer reside in the UK, and will have to transfer my pension, as to do this by post from Thailand would take a month of sundays and plenty of cockups on the way.

    Regards Maxc London
