  1. I have arranged with the Post Office to have him delivered here. All you have to do is, at your end, find an appropriate box in which to put him for transit, with a suitable food supply, Generally speaking deliveries are are made, here on both even and odd days, providing that a.It is not raining and b. There is no OTOP festival in town. This of course limits delivery days to about 10 days a year.Choose wisely.

  2. i was shocked at first costas,,,,

i thought bloody hell he,s turned to the dark side,, (sorry JT),

go and have a lay down before milking time mate,,

    good morning by the way,,lol

That reminds me...I just got back from Penang. I went to a pet shop there and amongst the assortment of exotic animals, they had 2 full grown badgers for sale. I kid you not.
I don't believe you. What make of badgers? Did they have Thai ID cards and Non O visas?
  3. I know some of the teachers there - apparently the atmosphere is very pleasant and friendly. This is Kajonkiet Cherngtalay BTW.

One of the teachers there is a close friend - when we "talk shop", her stories are always about how much she enjoys teaching the kids, and very little in the way of office politics, problems with Thai staff etc.

I don't think the stress levels there are higher than any other comparable job. As I said, I know many of the KJK staff, and I find them a very friendly group of people to socialize with.

    I was talking HKT!
  4. Well. Another day! I did not think I was opening up such a can of worms!

I have to repeat: the reasons that they go/went to local Thai schools are (they are luk khreung..I see no reason for them to not have the best of the cultures into which they have been born)

    1. They learn to read and write Thai. They have friends from what is basically their Jangwat

    2. We have chosen where to live in Thailand. Based on pretty calculated decisions. Family, quality of life, cost of

land and property, absence of pollution and traffic jams! The older children are multilingual and multicultural. They live on their own. Well qualified, they have chosen, so far, not to leave; though they could. Why have they changed their minds?

I do not know.....Its a sort of "Thailand?": been there, done that, maybe

I wonder how many posters have spent time recently in the UK and France? With children in school.

    I think:

All cultures have a tendency to be 'narrow'and conformity in Thailand comes high on that list!

I am thoroughly opposed to so called 'international schools' I think the UK schools here and in Malaysia/Singapore are just in it for the money. Of course a certain 'kudos' attaches to those who have attended them. My sister

and I went to some of the most prestigious schools and universities in the UK and the US and France. You know...

Wycombe Abbey, Oxford, Yale.Learned pretty well nothing. We were never listened to; just sent off to be processed like peas.My sister does home schooling. She says I will never send my children away to endure what we had to. She is very keen on governesses! Difficult to find here! Thais either too rich or too idle! We found a lady willing to teach my daughter Japanese. All went well; but after 2 months...sorry I do not have the time..I need to be in the temple every day.........

Sorry all very domestic and boring,,but some insights into daily living in LOS!!

  5. Get a lawyer

Get a court order requiring that the custody terms are honoured.

Don't know how you were managing the custody arrangement. You say you saw her 3/4 times a week. Why did that stop? I would not have left it 4 months

I think you are probably right that your consent would have been required; but you will also know that Thais think they can do exactly what they want.

Sounds like you will have to do some leg work and go to Shenzen

Are you in a position to look after her?

How do you know she is enrolled in a school?

Do you have her British Passport?+ Other documentation..birth certificates Thai and UK?

In Thailand the mother, if a Thai national is obviously in quite a strong position. In China I would not be so sure. etc.etc! Good luck!

  6. uote]

For some. We like it here. Equally there have been a few farang who moved here, poorly researched, not what they wanted at all. Few English speakers, few concessions even to English with many signs in Thai script only, no bars and all the trash aspects that accompany them . . .

Chan Immigration stats showed less then 100 long-termers in a province of 510,000 (based on 312 90-day reports made in 12 months). About half of them are Scandinavians up around Soi Dao in NE of the province, don't see many round us - maybe 6 in the wider local area.

Not for everyone. It's not perfect, but for us the pluses far outweigh any negatives. At times I work out of the country and always glad to come back here, 'home', and in the end, that's what matters, not someone else telling us whether we are happy or not.

I like Chanthaburi a lot, it really is a nice province which thankfully hasn't been trashed by tourism. Some nice beaches, great country side, excellent fruits and seafood at great prices. Oh and a lovely golf course up in Soi Dao.

    Why I love Chan.

    1. No hawkers hookers peddlars, no time share touts ot tailors touts, no ladyboy pick pockets, no jet ski rip offs.

    2. Choice of Soi Dao (nice little golf course), or the beaches at Laem Sing or Chao Lam.

    3. Wild boar on the menu.

    4. Breeze House has Belgium beer.

    5. Clean fresh air.

    6. Beautiful countryside.

    7. The rain, would love to take you shopping today love, but look its pissing down, pours first beer of the day at one in the afternoon, mrs knows the day is finished.

    8. The dog can go wild in the country or wear my arm out throwing sticks into the sea.

    9. No tawat tourists with their ho de jour on their arm.

    10. Work ethic (Vietnamese/Chinese influence?)

    11. When was the last time you were in a bar in Bkk or Pattaya and met a woman from Chan working there?

    12. They take pride in their appearance and house, I dont see the front yard littered with empty Leo and lao kao bottles.

    13. They aint stuck up snobs, although its probably one of the most prosperous regions of the country.

    Bad points.

    1. Timing the return to Bkk, gawd help you if you set off at the wrong time and are stuck behind the convoy of trucks heading to Bkk loaded with their wares.

    2. Lack of petrol stations on the road, military style planning is required, or just fill up before leaving.

    3. Cant think of any others.

    Oh yeah,LOL

    4, Toady lives there.

Nakhon Phanom the same...absolutely no farang. Immigration? No need to be there at 06.00 like CM!! OK it is a bit further to the sea than Chan.......but it has Air Asia not overpriced Bangkok Air at Trat!!! Never met an NP or Mukdahan girl 'working'....City run like a model town..no litter, rubbish collected, water and electric never fail.... Fantastic food..wild boar, too!!....but Sakhon Nakhon not the same! Chan, of course has a monopoly on Durian! 2 well kept secrets!!

  7. Authorities are NOT entitled to 'seize' or require you to 'surrender' your passport. In Andy Hall's case I cannot imagine how he came to 'offer' up his passport. Even in Thailand it is presumed he is 'innocent' until a court finds him 'guilty' so why would they require his passport? He is not a Thai citizen, so there is no justification for assuming that he might 'do a runner' Who,in their right mind, gives their passport to anyone, whether it is a policeman or a motorbike rental shop?

  8. The reasons they went/go to school in Thailand are

    1. To learn to read and write Thai. Nobody is concerned about speaking. It is almost axiomatic they will be able to speak

    2. If you can read and write Thai, then there are options, in Thailand . If you cannot those options diminish rapidly

    3. If they wish to live in Thailand, they have to learn how to 'behave' like a Thai person..not saying this is entirely what one would wish...but it does not help to be an outcast!

    4. We want them to be 'citoyennes du monde'..at ease and competent in a most cultures...I guess that is important because we are!

    5. I am concerned for the older 2 because they say..no future here....interesting observation from a poster about 'Hi So Thai schools in this respect. But they are never going to become part of HiSo Thai society. As you know there is a lot of admiration for young pretty Luk Khreung...but I doubt that it translates into worthwhile 'careers'

  9. the older ones are old enough to go live wherever they want and as for the younger ones, since when do parents design their lives around childrens whims??

I agree, but not 'whims'!! These are well reasoned arguments...I am perturbed by the fact that, regardless of the little ones, the older ones think the same. We have tried, endlessly to have them integrated into 'Thai' society. They just reckon Thailand is not 'cool'!!
  10. We live in Nakhhon Phanom. Miles from anywhere. But has Lotus, BigC, Makro, an airport..1 hour to BKK, the beautiful river Mae Nam Khong and Laos 10 minutes away across the bridge and the sea in Hue/Vietnam another hour or three.

No farang/chinese/tourists....probably should not be telling you this!! Mukdahan good , too, but has no airport!

  11. I have now had it explained to me in the words of one syllable that a farang will understand@

A green light is an offer to proceed. If you decide that you have more important matters to attend to on your phone, youmay ignore it. A red light is an offer to stop. If you choose to ignore it and proceed. you are probably dancing with death, but it is still your choice whether to proceed or not! Most people fail to understand the basic premise of Thai life DO NOT TELL ME WHAT I CAN nor CANNOT DO. I AM THAI. I DO WHAT I WANT

    Thank you

  12. I am from the UK and France. My wife is Thai

We have 4 children.2 are grown up and have good jobs/careers in Thailand

The 'little ones' 1 is in in school in M2, one in school P6

All of them are trilingual English, French, Thai

I chose to come and live here for 25 years. My wife is, naturally, happy to be in her country.

All 4 children now say they want to go 'home'to France and the UK

We have explained endlessly why it might be better to live in the Far East..........not interested!

What would you wise members advise?

  13. TV says I cannot reply to you Costas!!!! Too many posts, surely not................??

    I wonder why?

You are an example to me me like I am to myself. Oh boring TV ...... members go away and live a little ??.

Bit wet here tonight, but the cats are having fun chasing the frogs and I am off to cook Salmon en croute. We are not allowed to wear clothes in the kitchen unless they have been stored in the freezer for 25 hours, Funny people these Thais

  14. Oh Gawd, you have managed to get both Yeats and Oscar Wilde out of the cupboard. When, in your cause, someone quotes

Cavafy or even Ovid. I shall retire to my idyllic island and have no further conversations with so called men

  15. OP has a perfectly reasoned Q? I have no idea of the answer. Green light: slow down.it might turn red at any moment? Red light? Speed up and go through you might otherwise get stuck for 2 minuted

At the the end of the soi we have a light of 30 seconds on green 2 minutes off on red . Lucky if you can get one carthrough the green light, . I have no idea what they are up to while waiting

  16. Got people worked up has it not?.

    All very simple

Every Thai person has to have an ID card and a Tabian Baan. Without those two life is very difficult

But they are easy to get, particularly, for a child.Granny? if you have a Thai Birth Certificate no problem

I fail to to understand why the OP has not protected/secured the future of his children in Thailand by their not having an ID card, and a Tabian Baan. Not difficult. Quick trip to the Amph0e/Tessuban

When we last went renew the childrens' passports in CM the only thing they were interested in was the mother's consent, ems reasonable...I take them out of Thailand regularly on their UK passports and return on n their Thai ones!

  17. You do not need Tabian Ban to get a Thai Passport. Does your child have a Thai ID card? You need a House registrationto get that. It does not take 5 days to get a passport; 24 hours to have it delivered. There is no reason you cannot leave on your UK passports. If you leave on the Thai passports, without UK passports then there would be a need for visas for the uk, which is obviously nonsense, if you have UK passports. Children cannot overstay, and I have never heard of a problem with 'expired Thai passports' . As far as I know there is no regulation that requires you to enter and leave on the same passport. Much of this does not add up!

You are wrong on more than one point.

A house book is required if applying for the passport here in Thailand. See: http://www.mfa.go.th/main/en/services/1415/21479-Requirements-for-the-Ordinary-e-Passports-Applicat.html

Without a house book registry the child would not be able to get an ID card.

It is a requirement to leave on the same passport you entered on. There would be no entry/permit to stay stamp in a foreign passport if you tried to leave on a different passport.

Since the child entered on a Thai passport they must leave on a valid Thai passport. Their UK passport does not have an entry stamp in it.

Don't wish to quibble UbonJoe..but...You do NOT need a Tabian Baan to get a passport. All you need is an ID card. Sure you need a Tabian Baan to get an ID card . My children have offered up their UK passports at Swampy with a departure card and never been asked either why they do not have an entry stamp nor asked if they entered Thailand on a Thai or other passport. TBefore there used to be a stamp in their Thai passports 'Seen at BKK' last time came in a month ago does not even have that. The airline is only interested in whether they have the right to enter the UK or a visa/passport to enter Thailand.

Anyway on a different tack..who in their right mind would bring a child to Thailand. or anywhere, with a passport that was due to expire? It is a normal part of life that to travel anywhere that the passport must have at least 6 months duration remaining

And..this child has a Thai passport already, so it is just a renewal....
