Oh please., I have attended university seminars in which well-educated Thais have used the word farang. Furthermore, do you actually believe the Thais have no idea about racism? Remember, racism does not just refer to one of the three basic races, it also refers to one's ethnicity and may even be extended to nationality, social status, or religion.

White, Westerner, European, American can also be racist terms, given a racist context.  A term to differentiate the races does not have to be racist in itself, it more depends upon its use and intent. While I am sure farang can be a racist term if used that way, but so is Brit, or Yank; yet each can be used without prejudice. I doubt one farang would use the term farang as a racist insult to another farang--they would more likely use Limey or Yank wouldn't they?  I think you farang-shy farangs need to get a grip.

We're are you from what country? .

then I will reply to your statement.

George get off your high horse. The word Farang is colloquial. It is no different to calling an American a Yank. Which most of the world does and is not meant as any form of disrespect

You. Get off your high horse , I call a American a American live with it .

i see as  racist and the trouble is Thais don't get  taught not to be racist.

    Total tosh......

Like you , but you can't  answer we're are you from what  Country and that would tell me you are a  racist .

see people like you have to start  attacking people like me ,  when I have a say but , 43,200 post tells me something about who you are , a total tosh .

Sorry I completely disagree it is not a Racist word at all.you use other words to make a point but Farang is NOT a racist word and to say it is Racist is rather silly. In my view.

Up to you how you see , but we're do you come from have you had  racism in your life , do you understand how people are  racist ? .

to me it is a racist word it is not a thai word made up like the word w?g .

this is the thai word for western chaao-dtàang-châat maybe you should lean it if you live in thailand.

Think some folk have their head up their ass.........

In Ubon on 11th hour of the 11th month every year Ubon town puts on a "Service" to commemorate the sacrifices we all paid in some way during and after wars. A big ceremony with brass bands and the flags of many nations involved. Totally funded by Ubon. When allied prisoners of war were released from the Jap clutches the Ubon folk took care of many to get them fit enough to go home....

Ubon provides many wreaths to represent different folk affected and for those paying their respects. One year I had the honour of placing a wreath representing westerners living in Ubon. The words on that wreath were..

    "Farangs of Ubon".............

So who thinks the word is disrespectful...?

    rememberance day.jpg

To me I think it is  disrespectful that is how I see , you can see how you like .

it is  a made up world .

this is the  proper word chaao-dtàang-châat lean it and for Thais who have not been  taught about  racism they should start to lean not be Races .

I suggest you quit being so overly-sensitive.---it will make your time here less stressful. This is Thailand, and in Thai a Western foreigner is farang. You are in Thailand and you are a Western foreigner. If a farang calls you a farang; where is the disrespect? There simply may be no need to say you are from old blighty.

Have you heard of the word w?g  racist word same as the word f????g .

but Thais have no idea about  racism in there country because are not  taught not to be  racists .

you will not get a well  educated thai use that word at all , would use the thai word

chaao-dtàang-châat witch is the right word .

  9. I brought this topic up some years ago and here it is again.

To me it is a  racist word use by Thais but Thais don't get  taught  not to be racist by there  peas .

When I hear western use it and write it , makes me think how racist those people are .

I have told my thai partner how I don't like that word from the first day I meet her and

Exploited to her why I don't like it and she said ok and never uses that word with me .

It is a made up word by Thais who can't say  French man  and now they say that word f????? .

like the word w?g just a racist word .

used by lots of westerners who are racist.

I don't blame thai people because most of them are not  educated it the  racism that go's on in the world.

just my say and how I feel about it , we live in a  racist world now and have always live in one , hop it changes but I sure it will not .

I am lucky my country dose not let people be  racists in public .

But we have lots of  racist people .

That's pretty much the case throughout the Kingdom, irrespective of the seller's race.

When I wanted to but a motorbike, I thought about getting a secondhand one (from a Thai) but the prices were so close to new prices, I just bought a brand new bike.

That's the market here. I don't understand it either.

I tell you how to understand ok

thais have no money as you should know by now , so if the  Second hand car is 100,000 cheaper then the new price they will buy it and save the 100,000 .

that is 10% off the new car price on a  Worth one million bht .

and the western try's to sell at that price.

the car from the western should be well look after you would think, as Thais do  Service  Their cars a lot .

i am the same if I sell my car I need thailand I want top money for it ,because it is like new and I take great care of it .

i would never sell it for 50% cheaper then the new price like the op says , that is bs , thailand is not like the west.

yes many cars but not a lot of  Second hand cars  Here .

tones are not too important for semi intelligent Thais as long as you add a correct classifier for a word

You are so wrong you need the tones ok

and yes you can get pass as you say but , most Thais will not understand you if you not give them the right tone .

Been trying to lean thai for 7 years off and on and it is very hard .

Just started back at thai school last Sunday and it was great to get back in to it .

I for one love talking thai and if I am in a  foreign country I think you most lean there  language .

Heheheheh keep on bashing Starbucks I have made a pretty penny holding there stock for a number of years. Love the haters but really love the people who visit a world class business.

McDonald's is world class business as well and I would not feed it to my dog , like starbursts would not drink that  terrible coffee .

These chronic posts I read bashing SBUX just crack me up. Wherever you go the place is near full to overflowing. They must be doing something right. Reminds me of so many 'sour grapes posts' about other consistently successful businesses, like the Apple, the New England Patriots, or McDonald's.  Some people just aren't happy unless they're bashing people or groups with massive success, thinking they're elevating themselves by hating on what so many people enjoy, as though they're above it all. SBUX hasn't fooled the world, they dominate in a food service category they helped create. The large scale retail food marketplace is highly competitive and very efficient. If they weren't outperforming the competition, SBUX would be contracting instead of expanding. If you want to drink coffee acquired at a local roaster, or a different chain, that's cool. But please stop with all this SBUX is crap stuff...it is so tired and boring.

You most work for them hahah just joking ok .

i think it is shit coffee that is my  opinion like you have your say , this is a free  forum to say as we like , just as you just told us .

i think it is over priced and  taste  terrible .

like  McDonald's it is all over the world and is  terrible food , but that is me .

No one is  bashing , we are just having our say about the  topic .

I find that Thai women take huge pride in wearing gold.  They want their friends to see them.  Thai women are competitive with other Thai women.

I give my girl an allowance for living expenses.  She'll save up money and buy a nice piece of gold every now and again.  I have yet to see her part with any gold at all.

Boy you most be given her a big allowance but

up to you , I am not in to paying my thai partner money to live with me if she not happy being with me for me , then she not worth it .

and before you call me  cheap  Charlie I take good care of her .

thai lady's love to show off and think they are better then other thai lady's by showing off their gold .

good if she dose not sell her gold.

but most of them have no idea how to save money so when money runs low by by gold .

That depends upon the basis for getting one. For being 50 or over it would be no. For marriage to a Thai being the parent of a Thai and etc it is possible to get one.

I agree with the married to a thai yes .

but the o-a Retirement Has to be done in Australia for  Australians wanting to live in thailand that is the new laws for  singles .

so you see ubonjoe you are great at what you do , but some of the so called no alls get on here and give bad  advice .

It was changed some 3 years ago as you all ready no .

to stop the  criminals getting in to thailand on the non-o and  then change it to an extension of stay .

with out  police checks and  medicals in their own country .

i am talking about  Single men retiring in thailand.

    not married.

just to clear this up I will share a little history up to a point

Types of visa we are talking about that you need to begin the extension process inside Thailand

60 day tourist visa (obtained in home country or neighboring country to Thailand)

    - can be used to apply for a 12 month extension but needs to be converted to single Type O in BKK

Single entry Type O (obtained in home country or neighboring country to Thailand)

    - can start the 12 month extension process during the first 30 days of entry to Thailand

The single 90 day type O is available in most home countries from Thai Embassy

Multiple entry 12 Month type O  (varies country to country but could generally be considered as no longer available unless married/children or in receipt of state pension and over 65)

Type O-A generally referred to as a retirement Visa obtained in home country  only and subject to Police - medical checks - funds  and over 50

All the above requiring the usual funding/income seasoning qualification for 12 month extension in Thailand

For the OP as already advised option 2 above would be easiest unless you can get an Immigration official to bend slightly or get an agent to sort it for 12k baht (if in Pattaya) for renewal.....for 12kbaht your funds suddenly become seasoned :)

Like I say you can't get the non - o

    in Australia any more

you can get the O-A yes for retirement

you can get 60 days Yes tourists visa

    and 6 months tourist visa

BUT YOU CAN'T get the non-o visa it has been stop in Australia for the last 2 years.

On 8th August 2016 my Non-Immigrant O multiple entry visa was issued, and at the time Andrew (Consul) said you can only get them from Sydney or Canberra now. I'll go and see him in June when I go back to Brisbane for a visit just to make sure. I was just going to keep getting the non O's, but if I can't I'll have to bite the bullet and get the retirement extension.

I am 100% sure can't get them I am telling you it has all changed I had to get the retirement one In Canberra.

    i am from Melbourne.

you need to go through all the  checks now   trying to clean up the  criminals from going to thailand with the non o visa.

if you are not a criminal you will not have a problem.

Once you have the retirement one you have it for two years , but after year one you have to go thai  immigration and get a  multi-entry again for the next year.

mine just run out am not getting a retirement one again not need it now can just fly in and out with  normal tourist Visa .
