my country Australia is not a nanny state we have rules yes and we have rights , you have no rights in your nanny stat thailand.

if I had my way I would make people who smoke pay $100 a packet to pay for their up keep in hospital when you get  cancer and you will get it , that is for sure 100% .

I would say non-smokers are very keen to 'approach' smokers even in an approved smoking area. It's almost like religious nutters who feel it's their right to enforce their beliefs on everyone.

I can't recall a situation where a smoker has told a non-smoker they must start puffing.

If it's a smoking area then please just leave us alone or go somewhere else.

I don't believe a non-smoker would  approach you in a smoking area to push their beliefs to stop smoking.

why would they want to  contaminate their body like you do , we are not that stupid, to go in to a  smoking area , but smokers love to smoke in places were they should not .

Hi.  No I don't really care about what they do..... I was making an observation about how some farangs who come to live here end up lonely, miserable and have few if any real friends.  They get bitter and start to hate other people and blame them for their own problems... and they get ripped off all the time by people because of their bad attitude, stupidity and them acting super rich like money is no matter to them.

I wrote this in response to a question about why some farangs think Thai people are so bitter against them... when in fact this is just their experience and not true about Thai people and Farang people in general.

I am in no way jealous about such a situation.  In fact, it seems like hell to me!  I am very happy living here and have great Thai friends... many more than Farang friends... and I find most Thai people very kind, generous, and sincere..... unlike some other farangs I have met here.

I think you misunderstood my post.  Hope I made it more clear.

Ok I do agree with you , but I never care about the ones who get rip off up to them , there is lots of  information on the internet now so most western man should not get rip off .

like I say up to them .

i understand what the  topic was about but most of that s??? , He was saying  happens in the tourist areas not in the thai towns .

i to have thai people I know very well and their are very  respectful people , but you do get some of them trying to rip us western off and that dose get me up set a little.

but now I make sure I send my thai partner in to  negotiate for me , but we as  foreigners in a foreign country should not have to do that s??? .

i am not trying to run you down I am just saying forget about the 90 % of stupid man who think with there little head .

I also see this a lot.  Even some farangs living out in the sticks (where I live) just depend on their Thai wife for everything.  They build a big expensive house, tall walls and huge gate.  Then live in their own little bubble of farang land inside.  Air con on every day and night, at con on in their new truck to go to the air con filled farang supermarkets (as they don't like Thai food and want to pay crazy prices or imported farang food).

When ever they go out they go with their wife to hold their hand.... they bark orders at her to do this and that, say this and that to other Thai people, complain about things.  They have never seen the real Thailand.  They live in their shell, convincing themselves every Thai person is out to con, steal and lie to them.  They don't trust anyone or have any real friends. They use their money like a bribe to control people and get what they want.

After a few years they become so bitter and argumentative, have so little going on in their life they get obsessed about tiny unimportant trivial matters... and then start to take out their frustrations on their own farang friends.... in the end ending up with no friends and miserable on their own.  What a life!!!

Big words , some of it is very true, but like a thai would say up to them .

not understand why western man care about what westerners do in thailand, if they get rep off or live in their big homes up to them .

what you should thinks is his life let him do as he likes .

you seem to be  jealous in your  statement , his life , not your life , let him do what he wants .

you think Thais don't do the same as him looking down on Thais yes they do , that is life .

all over the world it is the same .

Went to the Ministry of Foreign Trade for an import permit. Official very helpful, assisting in filling out the forms. Wifey offered him 1,000THB as a thank you to which he said if you don't put that away he'd put the application in the bin.

She wasn't offering a bung, just a thank you and have a drink on us.

Wasn't until we got in the lift and noticed all the anti-corruption posters.

Why would you offered him money for a job he gets paid for .

that is just so stupid, do you do that in your own country I think not .

when people are paid to do government work, you never ever offer tip money, not seen that anywhere.

the right thing would be to say thank you very , very much.

you are  enticing anti-corruption by  offering .

Unless it was an open air bar where smoking is allowed.

Ok but you can't smoke by law in bars and  restaurants but lots of the bars owners don't  enforce the law and some restaurant owners as well .

but you see lots in thailand care about the money not the  patrons .

you should think about stopping for your self I have seen what it can do to you  just try to stop .

you can do it if you try hard .

you would believe how good you will feel .

Where did I say I don't understand the law. I said where I am allowed to smoke I will.

I will walk outside to the car park to smoke but if come up to me in the car park and tell me to stop smoking I will happily tell you to go and take a flying f---.

We're did I say , I would come up to you in a car park and tell you to stop smoking you are  imagining that .

good you smoke in a car park.

if you was smoking next to me in a bar or a restaurant I will happily tell you go and take a flying f .

Don't smoke in a restaurant and never got thrown out of a bar yet.

Just shows how  disrespectful  people like you are who smoke in bars , but you are just killing your self can't understand how people like you can't see it that smoking kills people.

Lucky  your not in Australia because of this year you and your  filthy dirty habit will not able to smoke with 50  metres of a out side  eatery .

just hop thailand takes on that same law very soon to stop  disrespectful people smoking.

  9. 2 hours ago, overherebc said:

I smoke only where I am allowed to and if in an 'allowed' area I will object to a non-smoker asking me to stop.

I will not join in the dirty filthy habit of eating with people who take food from the dish in the middle of the table with the utensil they have just had in their mouth.

Do you not understand the law in thailand is you can't smoke in a restaurant or a bar but no  one in forces that law .

you have a dirty filthy habit up to you but keep it to a car park and I would happier.

So it is no problem that one disturbs other people with the filthy air coming out their car, truck, motorbike, bus, factory which is a far greater health risk?

I agree with you about the the cars , trucks , motorbikes, bus , factory.

and yes it is a health risk.

But now car  companies are trying to change all of that .

but it still dose not take away the  fact that smoking in restaurants in thailand is a  filthy dirty habit .

so you being a smoker stop it , because if you were a nonsmoker you would agree with me .

Fortunately there are plenty of indoor restaurants that simply ban all smoking inside. I don't see why the antismoking mafia can't just use those and stop their moaning, but I guess that moaning is part of the daily life of the retired expat.

I am one of your so called anti smoking mafia and I think smoking should be banned everywhere.

have you walk past one of those so called smoking   Areas out side it is a f????? Joke .

Yes moaning right , but if people did not smoke around food and bars and everywhere we would not  moan would we .

I assume that was meant in jest? Hard to tell. It is probably pretty hard for a smoker, to fathom how incredibly obnoxious it is, for a non smoker to be within their vicinity, while they are smoking. I try to sit or stand as far away as possible from the toxic emissions. And always look for a place upwind of them. Some of my friends who have quit smoking, later tell me they had no idea how horrendous second hand smoke was.

In the 60's a large percent of the population was ignorant about smoking. The tobacco industry suckered the population, including the medical industry, into this scam of believing it was safe. Now we know better. Any fool who thinks tobacco does not harm his body is overlooking alot of easily available information. Whether or not it kills you, depends on the individual. Personally, I lost my mother, father, and grandfather to cancer, caused by tobacco. I have an ax to grind.

I agree with you 1 million % can't stand it at all .

home now will be back in thailand soon and the one thing I can't stand is the smokers and the s??? Driving.

Yes in the 1960 we were told it was ok to smoke,  but now there is no  excuse for some one to smoke those  dirty filthy things .

As is always the case here, it is all about enforcement. Or lack thereof. While I lived on Samui, there was zero enforcement. I would walk into a restaurant, and ask where is the no smoking section. And they would reply "no problem sir, you can smoke anywhere". There were only two restaurants that enforced the law, and I was a big sponsor of both of them. It is a heinous thing, for a non smoking diner, to have to endure the toxic second hand smoke, from someone who does not have the decency to take a break, for an hour, from this filthy, disgusting habit, that according to some of us, betrays an incredible lack of personal discipline, hygiene, and self respect. Why would a self respect soul want to pollute their body in this manner?

I usually look for an indoor table, as far away from other diners, as possible, and always check the tables of other patrons I plan to sit next to, to see if there are any cancer stick packs on the table.

Hahaha , I did laugh well put go on you .
