Oh please., I have attended university seminars in which well-educated Thais have used the word farang. Furthermore, do you actually believe the Thais have no idea about racism? Remember, racism does not just refer to one of the three basic races, it also refers to one's ethnicity and may even be extended to nationality, social status, or religion.
White, Westerner, European, American can also be racist terms, given a racist context. A term to differentiate the races does not have to be racist in itself, it more depends upon its use and intent. While I am sure farang can be a racist term if used that way, but so is Brit, or Yank; yet each can be used without prejudice. I doubt one farang would use the term farang as a racist insult to another farang--they would more likely use Limey or Yank wouldn't they? I think you farang-shy farangs need to get a grip.
We're are you from what country? .
then I will reply to your statement.

George get off your high horse. The word Farang is colloquial. It is no different to calling an American a Yank. Which most of the world does and is not meant as any form of disrespect
You. Get off your high horse , I call a American a American live with it .
i see as racist and the trouble is Thais don't get taught not to be racist.

Sorry I completely disagree it is not a Racist word at all.you use other words to make a point but Farang is NOT a racist word and to say it is Racist is rather silly. In my view.
Up to you how you see , but we're do you come from have you had racism in your life , do you understand how people are racist ? .
to me it is a racist word it is not a thai word made up like the word w?g .
this is the thai word for western chaao-dtàang-châat maybe you should lean it if you live in thailand.

Think some folk have their head up their ass.........
In Ubon on 11th hour of the 11th month every year Ubon town puts on a "Service" to commemorate the sacrifices we all paid in some way during and after wars. A big ceremony with brass bands and the flags of many nations involved. Totally funded by Ubon. When allied prisoners of war were released from the Jap clutches the Ubon folk took care of many to get them fit enough to go home....
Ubon provides many wreaths to represent different folk affected and for those paying their respects. One year I had the honour of placing a wreath representing westerners living in Ubon. The words on that wreath were..
"Farangs of Ubon".............
So who thinks the word is disrespectful...?
To me I think it is disrespectful that is how I see , you can see how you like .
it is a made up world .
this is the proper word chaao-dtàang-châat lean it and for Thais who have not been taught about racism they should start to lean not be Races .

I suggest you quit being so overly-sensitive.---it will make your time here less stressful. This is Thailand, and in Thai a Western foreigner is farang. You are in Thailand and you are a Western foreigner. If a farang calls you a farang; where is the disrespect? There simply may be no need to say you are from old blighty.
Have you heard of the word w?g racist word same as the word f????g .
but Thais have no idea about racism in there country because are not taught not to be racists .
you will not get a well educated thai use that word at all , would use the thai word
chaao-dtàang-châat witch is the right word .

I brought this topic up some years ago and here it is again.
To me it is a racist word use by Thais but Thais don't get taught not to be racist by there peas .
When I hear western use it and write it , makes me think how racist those people are .
I have told my thai partner how I don't like that word from the first day I meet her and
Exploited to her why I don't like it and she said ok and never uses that word with me .
It is a made up word by Thais who can't say French man and now they say that word f????? .
like the word w?g just a racist word .
used by lots of westerners who are racist.
I don't blame thai people because most of them are not educated it the racism that go's on in the world.
just my say and how I feel about it , we live in a racist world now and have always live in one , hop it changes but I sure it will not .
I am lucky my country dose not let people be racists in public .
But we have lots of racist people .

Don't ' change ' it, regulate it, Pattaya is well known for it's liberal sex industry
and this is a good thing as long as you make sure it's safe and free from rouge and
criminal elements, banish those nasty and obnoxious lady boys from Pattaya
or bring them under control, keep drugs and underage from the sex scenes,
If you kill sex tourism I n Pattaya, you can kiss goodbye to half or more of your
tourists and that's a fact....
Are you saying more then half tourist are sex tourist ? .
Bs I find that very hard to believe, how do you know all of this .

In my opinion, it did justify the attack.
Try not to pay your bar bill in any country in the world and see what happens.
Read what the lady in the White dress said the bill was paid , but the bad thai mole wanted them to pay some bs bill .
if you have no idea about what happened then not open your mouth.

Let me put this straight to all of you. I am now known as 'the woman in the white dress'. We had 1 drink only in that bar as I cheked the bin as soon as it was put on the table. She charged us 350bht for a vodka and tonic .For a drink in an ordinary street bar that is outrageous. Our other drinks were also well overpriced. We had words with her over the bill, PAID IT IN FULL and went to leave. She then produced another pot with a bin in it( not the pot on our table) and wanted more money. We refused to pay more as seeing her prices on the 1st bin there wasn't any way we would order more. She lost it when I said I wanted tourist police at the bar. The 711 story is a load of nonsense. The only comment made about anything like that was I live here I know what things cost. To charge 70bht in a small bar for a coke or tonic is well out of order. As if anyone with half a brain expects to pay convenience store price in a joke. We are happy with the help we are getting from the Thai police. My partner didn't even want to report it. It was me that made him go there. This crazy behaviour cannot be allowed in Thailand. I have many Thai friends and they are disgusted by this incident. She needed reporting, as I wouldn't like to see her get away with it again. Next time, it could leave someone with a permanent injury or worse. For those people who have given us your support we want to say 'thank you'.
I know how it went down from the start before you made your statement I was behind you 100% but if you start to run a very bad thai lady down on here all the tolls get it to you , like get real and deepinthailand one more who run you down and your partner , they call it thai bashing , bs we were trying to have our say .
hop it works out for you both and great you reported that no good lady .
i have a thai partner and I have lots of thai friends I know , but in all countries all over the world we have good and bad people .
I am having a say , I am not thai bashing.

And do you understand the irony, given your first sentence, of me believing that "the man was set up by some bar mole"?
Ok
-
2 minutes ago, LandOfWiles said:
It seems difficult to believe that he refused to pay because it was more expensive than the Seven Eleven, especially since he's lived in Thailand for a while. Possibly, he said something like "that's six times the price in the Seven Eleven!". But it seems just as likely that this explanation was a complete fabrication by the bar woman.
It's also not clear what happened before the video was recorded. Something almost certainly lead up to someone recording it. Maybe a heated argument or maybe the guy first attacked the woman as someone here suggested. In any case, the police should have been called into handle this.
Do you believe what some Tv members say , not me .
the man was set up by some bar mole , happens all the time in thailand all over the place.

The lady in the photo has posted what happened and I posted, before I read post 114, that we should not just take the bar girl's word for it but here YOU go again... try and show some balance?
Yes very true he is a problem with his love of thai mak mak .
that is why I never ever reply to him now , he has no idea about thailand and the world , live with blinkers on .

A typical reply from someone who believes a statement from a thai who dose not want to lose face .
are you joking you believe that stupid woman .
that all she can do is hit someone.
you need your head read sorry .

Maybe you should read Post 114
Same as many people here, should do.
Just read it did not see it before thanks for your post.
just as I was thinking over changed, but most on here think the thai has the right to hit people , because she was court out repeat someone off and did not want to lose face ,again this face bs in thailand.

Now the tactic seemd to be at resoring the face in the eyes of the tourists. Better the tourists think about the bars generally charges more for beer and drinks than a 7/11 shop. Just another maniac.
And yes, it justifies the attack. Enough of these people can even make me irritated just sitting in a bar drinking and hearing them complaining with their galactically stupid reasons.Just another maniac.
And yes, it justifies the attack. Are you kidding with this statement.
so you think violets is ok do you .

well before we all just take this bar girl's word for it it might be fruitful to hear the tourist's version? I mean bar girl's never lie and all that... but for balance?
Gets me how every one on here is running that man down over some hooker from a bar what joke let him have his say .
then we all can say he was wrong or not .

I think he was that stupid! if you want a thai to reach out and touch you, try leaving a bar without paying for your drinks! i am surprised that the BIB arrested her! should have taken his sorry ass to the slammer!
Ok I have no idea about the full story, but the dose not give that f w the right to assault that man dose it , she has been charged and hop she pays a big fine to teach her , she can't take the law into her own hands.
and if the man did the wrong thing he should be changed with stealing .
no one has the right to hit anyone.

Would that make the Bs go away from this story. ?
I just can't see 4 people thinking a bar should sell alcohol
cheaper than a 7/11 or the same price. as a 7/11
something is not right with this story.
That would be the Bs.
Would like to know what the bill was for, and what the bill was.
i suspect, maybe caught out over charging and she lost face,
so went on the war path maybe ?
Or was it 4 very stupid people !!!!!!!!!!!!
I agree with you , my self I have been over changed at a bar in surin issan , was told I drink 6 beers but I didn't , I just drink 3 beers I just paid for the 6 and walk away never to go back to that bar again and told the locals how I was rep off .
bars try to rep you off if they think your a sucker.
one bar changed my thai 90 bht for water, paid it , but will never go back and now I look at the price of anything before I order ..
