I actually agree that those drinking or using drugs should not be driving, so we have no argument there. I am not so sure that removing the weed or alcohol from the equation in order to solve it is the answer. Better policing and testing (drug as well as alcohol tests) and real penalties puts the onus on the driver to look after their own best interests and stay of the road.

I am saying that cannabis alone does not make driving a difficult task except for the true newbies to the drug. Drivers who do face difficulties tend to drive cautiously and slow, unlike those affected by alcohol who are careless and irresponsible. The danger probably occurs where the two are combined. But I don't believe negotiating a curve successfully would be a particular problem for a user.

It's not a cheap place to smoke weed. The weed is more expensive than I would pay in Australia for illegally grown weed.

So when does the crackdown come? The PM earlier suggested the end of the year would see the end of recreational use announced or enforced. Is that date likely to be brought forward? (I fear anything involving drugs that Thaksin is behind)

There are plenty of weed shops which are well outside and beyond tourist areas - for instance, Rangsit in Bangkok has many shops but no tourists. Tourists are certainly not the only people in Thailand buying weed.

So then I assume that Condos would have notices stating that smoking on balconies did not include weed? Weed vaporizers generate almost zero odour and would overcome the smell problem you describe if they were legally available in Thailand - which they are not. They are also far preferable to smoking for health purposes.

I don't know if you are being sarcastic, but ecstasy is a nice drug as drugs go, certainly the most enjoyable of the pills available. At 1000 baht a pill, they were probably smuggled from Europe and likely to be very high quality. The details of the LSD sales are obviously totally wrong - 100 baht a trip sounds more reasonable, and this modern stuff is nowhere near as potent as the trips available in the 60's and 70's. I feel a bit sorry for the guy really. I used to buy the same stuff from an Aussie back in the 90s when I lived in Bangkok. The people who write these articles really need to fact check their articles and opinions, because a lot of what they report, including the dangers of the drugs, are just nonsense.

Thai politics and the legal system are disheartening to everyone but the Thai people who allow one travesty of justice after another to pass unquestioned. If they don't care why should I, unless of course Thaksin's return to power accelerates the de-legalisation of weed and is backed up by another shoot to kill squad being assembled.

It's a bad idea if you have already paid for an insurance policy and get double hit through whatever means Thailand uses to raise the money for local insurance.
