  1. I had read before that many were deterred by that shooting. I don't see why it would evenly remotely figure in the minds of anyone planning a trip to Thailand.
  2. If the indiscriminate shooting of a Chinese tourist is enough to deter a whole population of people away, how are they going to cope with fear if they find themselves thrust in a war situation? Seems that when courage was dished out, these people missed out. They have no trouble instilling fear prior to killing into the 10 to 20 million dogs and cats that grace their dinner tables each year. I'd have though an isolated shooting by a crazed kid would be water off the back for mainland Chinese.
  3. If this applied in Thailand, than the charges against the Red Bull killer would not have been dismissed due to the application of the statute of limitations.
  4. Normally in those situations the identities and evidence are altered or lost. The guy probably figured that if no attempt to arrest him overseas had occurred that he was safe.
  5. Which highlights one of the major shortcomings of the Thai political system - lack of a moral compass.
  6. I can if its only the Russians given the extension.
  7. I can. Why should the Russians get the extension to 90 days and not other nationalities? Personally I can't think of a nationality less deserving of favoured treatment.
  8. Give the most to the least deserving. That's pretty much how third world countries operate.
  9. Naked in the store? Obviously had no thought of covering his tracks or preparing to lie when confronted. Back in the old days, Thai males would quite openly give a young boy a quick fiddle, but didn't ask for reciprocation or divest themselves of their clothes. Mum is going to punch a pretty big hole in her trip if she wants to pursue this guy in court,
  10. What a crock of s....
  11. Kids as young as 8 smoking bongs in the streets! Errant nonsense. How can a school fine students 10000 baht?! And given the pungency of marijuana smoke, how can students get away with smoking in the toilets? Why would students risk a 10000 baht fine when they could so easily be caught by a vigilant teacher on yard duty? (If there is little risk of being detected, your kid doesn't go to a school with good teacher supervision).
  12. Why should we do homework? I would have expected to find this information in the article.
  13. Just about impossible to kill yourself from an overdose of prescription medicines. Who is going to choose poison as a means of ending it all given how painful that is too? If he died of self inflicted gunshot wounds, why would the family question that and why do it in a car park rather than a hotel? I don't blame the mother for questioning the police verdict.
  14. I was questioning it because I did not know he was at the foot of a high building. Having said that, I would question the many reported suicides of foreigners jumping from high buildings. It's not easy to do and if he had hopped across to Cambodia could have found a much more pleasant way to finish off his life.
  15. Wouldn't you prefer to do any of these in your hotel room as your final act in life? Also if serious about suiciding, you're not going to do it in a place where people might find you and call for medical assistance.
  16. Yeah, obviously, but what method of suicide other than leaping from a high rise would result in you dying in a car park?
  17. If you suicided in Bangok, why would your body be found in a carpark?
  18. If he got the PM post he wouldn't have needed to resign.
  19. I reckon a long jail sentence would be more effective than any of the over the top suggestions here.
  20. Gee you people take things the wrong way. The original point of my post was that I need an endodontist and and the Dental hospital was mentioned. I checked reviews and found a lot of negative comments about the organisational side of the place but said I would still go there for the availability of specialists and microscope equipment. Reviews are a useful guide to the quality of services - I always read 100s of them when choosing a hotel, an airline, an insurance company or a restaurant. My concern here is the quality of dentistry and the equipment availability for complicated procedures rather than whether I am going to be likely to wait an hour or two for an appointment or 25 minutes for my bill. I totally agree that generally a small clinic with an ongoing relationship with a single dentist would suit me far better long term - but not for two root canals.
  21. The criticism of poor communication relates largely to that between the dentist and staff (resulting in the wrong kind of dentist being assigned to a case), including when it come to making up the bill, but also includes the difficulty of making an appointment because no one picks up the phone. I accept your good experience as the norm. I take the criticism on board and plan around the worst happening, but ultimately it's the skill of the practitioners with which I am concerned.
  22. There are over 150 reviews and only a 3.2 average, which is way below any other dental establishment. The poor reviews are largely concerned with poor communication, administration, waiting times rather than the dentists, though even they don't escape criticism with a few names mention (who I would avoid or be wary of). The move to On Nut really seems to have expose some of the flaws. There is actually a really good apartment place in which to stay nearby, and I like the situation of On Nut, but I would definitely book myself to stay in the area a week beyond the appointment time, such was the negativity I read in the comments about the organisation rather than its practitioners.
