The Natwest App is no longer available unless you have a UK address. I spent a long time in one of their branches trying to make it work before they confirmed with Tech support, only available for UK addresses.

so set one up via family or friend.

a reminder here that it's worth maintaining a uk address, easy to do and prevents awkward issues like this

7-11 sell large Leo for 55bht, presumably they make a profit from it, they can't be paying any more rent than the bars as they are in the same street ......... so why does the bar need to sell at much higher prices? The hooker bar staff make a profit for the bar, so it can't be their wages upping the prices and the normal staff are usually fewer in number than the 7-11 staff.

the answer in a word; economics.

So those migrant workers did have a 14 day quarantaine, all by Thai rules.

They have a working permit after the quarantaine. Or not? Thai broke their own rules?

    Like  New Zealand did once.

Well in the UK they find a mutant virus of covid 19 working now and it is 70% more effective in spreading.

So this one is really highly contagious, we start all over again.

They dont know yet if this one is even more dangerous, they say. But ok happy days will continu with the new virus.

it would be interesting to know what rules migrant workers have to follow, and if they are enforced

it is perfectly normal for new strains of virus to appear, the one in the uk has been around since september and other strains have been found in other european countries e.g. denmark and spain.

the new uk strain is currently more infectious but here is no evidence the symptoms are any worse (if  they were there would have been a pike in hospital cases since september) or that it is resistant to the vaccine, though no firm conclusions have been made as yet. so, no one is not starting all over again.

i suggest wait and see what the science says before jumping to pessimistic conclusions.

I need to phone my UK bank from Thailand using my mobile phone. My account is with AIS. Any ideas as to the cheapest way to contact them.

there's a prefix you can use, i forget what it is but just ask any AIS shop and they'll tell you. easy.

Regardless of the accuracy of the measurements, as the photos show, you can see by eye how bad the pollution is.

We live in central Bangkok and haven't seen it this bad for a longtime.

The sad thing is......nothing is being done about it.

Maybe do what China has done on occasions ......only odd or even number cars on certain days......Only for the non-hi-sos of course.

The sad thing is......nothing is being done about it.

au contraire, bangkok has installed these amazing, state of the art, and clearly extremely efficient air cleaning machines!

never thought much about Cher but saw her interviewed on the one show on the bbc and was impressed by the sincere way she spoke about wanting to help animals, it is something she clearly feels strongly about. the story is hitting national media in the uk:

    https://www.theguardian.com/world/2020/dec/11/cher-mall-gorilla-world-loneliest-elephant-bua-noi-bangkok

to be honest i'm amazed the gorilla is still there, but sadly maybe i shouldn't be, the way wild and domestic animals are treated in thailand is often shocking and shameful, not everyone but many thais have no respect or kindness for animals.

bit comical really, a) the foreigner should have been concentrating on riding his bike and not making some video for his youtube channel or whatever, i dont know how long he's been here but he should know that you have to expect the unexpected, not to say insanely stupid, at any time on thai roads, and b) the thai guy was doing something we in the west would consider dangerous and stupid but is quite normal in thailand.

Children make perfect sense, if theyndont get it iin school, they can't bring it home.

Dont know if younhave ever had kids, but I have never had so many flus or colds as when my kid was in elementary school.

Dirty little virus beasts they are.

i guess you dont understand about covid or the vaccine; children, unless they have underlying health issues, are not considered an at risk group, and just because you have been vaccinated it does not prevent you being infected with covid and passing it on to other people, the vaccine means you will not develop symptoms. therefore it makes no sense to vaccinate children first.

    the world is moving on;

    - any news on whether/when any of the vaccines will be approved for use in thailand?

    - any news on the purchase of more than the 26 million doses? (enough for only 13 million people, just in excess of the population of bangkok...)

    - any news on when the vaccine programme will be rolled out?

    - any news on who will be the priority groups of the population the receive the vaccine first?
